Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!

Love the last sentence. Utterly pragmatic. -
[RIP] Itagaki Tomonobu (Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive, etc)
Sildani replied to Mommar's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Holy crap! This was unexpected. Itagaki-san provided many hours of quality entertainment for me. Loved his work and his aesthetic. His games treated you like an intelligent human, generally didn't hold your hand, and punished you for failure, but kept success within reach - if you got gud. I also remember he would answer questions in a monthly column in one of the game mags, he did that for a while. He sometimes answered the question straight, sometimes irreverently, but always entertainingly. Wherever you are now, It's more fun and much more awesome now that you're there. -
Please make a female version. I'll buy them.

Nifty!

So I got my $180 Amazon YF-21 and it's a good 'un. Straight head laser, whole canopy, and although a wing flap fell off I'm just going to put a drop of super glue on it and call it done. I doubt very much Bandai will make "bent" flaps for this thing. I haven't transformed it yet and don't know if I ever will. Fighter mode is where I leave the majority of my Valkyries. The exceptions were my Yamato VF-1J because it was dirt simple, and my VF-31C Siegfried because the engineering and care of assembly made a complex transformation pleasurable. No other model has come close. Finally, as to the model itself, I'm so glad I got this dirt cheap. It isn't worth anywhere near its retail price, and with the god-awful Super Parts you can see Bandai was phoning this in from 1,000 miles away. We waited 30 years for this? Lord knows they could have kept the idiot Delimiter Mode and included a Fold Pod in its place. Now what may be a surprising sentence: I'm very glad I have this. Macross Plus is my favorite Macross series, now given our current world more than ever, and I had considered my Full Set Pack YF-19 the best 19 available. I had a Yamato VF-22 Gamlin as a fill-in for Guld's 21, and the two just never meshed together. It was more than the different colors, it was the design choices of each as far as shapes, details, plastics, and so on. Plus, unlike many others on this forum, I rather like all the tampoed details and callouts. Reminds me of JASDF F-15s and F-4s with their monstrous amount of stenciled placards. You should see the decal sheets for their models. Ye gods... And so this YF-21, flawed and overpriced it may be, is a great companion piece for the Chogokin YF-19, and it looks like they are indeed from the same place and time, if that makes sense. And I do like that, both perched on the same YetiStand (sniff.) I have a Yamato VF-11 on there too, with a nice decal sheet printed by the great Anasazi37, that I'm going to get to apply and that should bring the "feel" of the 11 up to the 19 and 21. I doubt very much we'll ever see a Chogokin 11, and I have no faith whatsoever that Bandai wouldn't stuff it anyway.

That’s very nice! Some 1/48 Inbit would be nice!

Amazon has this for $180 with two day delivery. I know it’s probably not exciting to a lot of people, but getting a DX Chogokin Valkyrie for less than $200 domestic delivery still feels neat. https://a.co/d/aZ6QzUX

So which Ride Armor has been your favorite from a durability and "coolness" factor?

This was not on my bingo card, but it’s great for fans. I hope it gets the VF-31 Siegfried treatment, not the VF-31AX Kairos Plus treatment.

Friendly reminder I've messaged you back, @jenius

Well, how long has it been for the VF-5000?

I think the original Frontier VF-31s were the height of Bandai's engineering AND assembly abilities, and not coincidentally they came out shortly before COVID. During and after COVID most everything has been flawed in one way or another. I guess factories closed and people left and institutional knowledge went with them. Doesn't matter to me, I'm pretty much done with collecting Macross, I've been priced out of the hobby for one, and for another what you pay for what you receive is totally imbalanced. Bandai just don't care.

And a great review it was!

The white missile blocks on the outside of the legs are massive and hangs down in fighter mode. Chest piece as well. The fins are as small as some people's hands, proportionally to the massive nose. The wings are super thick to accommodate all the opening panels and internal detail. For the price they're charging this is inexcusable. Definitely optimized for soldier, as jenius says, and therefore not for me.

The computer and electronics super geek thread
Sildani replied to azrael's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Hi all. I'm considering dipping my toes into the gaming PC scene for the first time in decades, mostly so I can play Escape From Tarkov. It's... dizzying, the amount of crap out there, and the outrageous names manufactures give even the PC cases they make, to say nothing of fans, RAM, and so forth. And let's not get started on the literal alphabet soup of motherboard types, GPUs, and the like. I don't want to waste my money on overkill, OR by undershooting what's needed. So I come to you, who know much. THIS much I have gathered: Tarkov has been described as CPU-intensive, requiring more from it than the GPU. I'd like to display 1440p res with High graphics settings or better at 60fps or better. I DON'T care about RGB, or a weird transparent case since it's going to be out of sight anyway. Budget is $700, not to exceed $900. I don't mind pieceing it together myself. Just please tell me what I need, what I don't, and whatever lessons you can teach me the easy way. Thank you, all! -
Arrived today with no fuss from Nin-Nin, decently packed with no wasted volume. I am very impressed with the engineering and build quality. The main landing gear alone are an amazing example of complexity and cleverness, and when they’re extended they’re rock solid. Thank goodness the Legioss is getting reissued this month. I NEED one for this beast.
