Kitz Concept Toy Thread 2.0
Podtastic replied to Stampeed Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
This is useful info. I'm down for for Dana, Roy and Max. Also Nova, Bioroid Pilot Zor, Corg, Sera and Bioroid Terminator if they ever do them. And since their doing removable armour not making Zentraedi soldiers will be a damn shame.- 2490 replies

Your most recent Macross or toy purchase! General thread.

There's an ABC warriors figure series? Whats the range? No chance that there's a Rogue trooper series? -
Looks very good. And nice to see it from all different angles.

Hopefully that issue gets resolved as I too would like to see you Gosu build. And the helper crab build if you acquired any.

This looks great, much as I prefer the factory fresh look myself.

Robotech and REMIX by Titan Comics

You are not in any position of authority of me. Choose your words more carefully. Thanks I'll check it out. Its the old stubborn vs stubborn thread spiral. You get a lot of it on vs debate forums. You are right and this thread should be closed, the comic it was actually about is dead.- 1934 replies

Robotech and REMIX by Titan Comics
Podtastic replied to Old_Nash's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Its I dont care. The anti-war message has been done in a lot of anime, war movies, and even Robotech. Its not going to change the world and nobody watches these things because of it. I just want future Macross series to be more along the lines of SDF or DYRL or Macross 2 or Frontier and less like Delta and Macross 7. They all had idols, triangles and such but it was sufficiently counterbalanced by combat and admirably militaristic aliens in the former that it wasnt quite as painful as in the later. Of course I would love the ratio to be improved. Whatever happened to men loving adventure, war and action in their entertainment - and the more the better?- 1934 replies

Thank you Dewpoint, I see you get it. Of course the message need not be "lost" there is also the option of "dont care". People can be immune to social messages just as they can be immune to marketing messages.- 1934 replies

So for you Macross and Gundam are all about the unsolicited social messages. They are not missed, but rather deemed not to be of any great relevance to people who already have a functional moral compass and are just here for entertainment. War is hell in reality but in fiction it is most entertaining. This is escapism not reality As to your last question not everyone wants their science fiction to be like Star Trek (or Mills and Boon), so war is not a negative - particularly not if our faction wins/survives. From my perpective the Titan comic is an absolute mess. Do an online poll if you want a broad view on the topic but I'll puke on my phone if most think the comic is better.- 1934 replies

Other hobbies? Pretty much my hobby is collecting same as with Macross/Robotech in collecting the series, novels, comics, games and most militaristic aliens. Macross is just one on a long list which includes 40k, Halo, Star Wars, GI Joe, Battlestar Galactica, Predator, Aliens, V, Independence Day, Starcraft, Starship Troopers, Marvel DC and also select sci-fi and fantasy novels etc Because its so broad I have to be selective so for example with 40k I only purchase novels involving the Tau, Eldar, Tyranids and Necrons. With Macross I mainly focus on the Zentraedi and Marduk - theres no Vajra so far that I know of (for Robotech this includes Bioroids and Invid) and for Star Wars its the Galactic Empire and Clone Army. My fave games are: Starcraft (original), the Predator/AVP games, MK, Soulcalibur, Call of Duty Rogue Trooper, Star Wars Clone Commando and Star Wars Battlefront.

Darn it. Pengbuzz misinterpreted my quoting errors, and the tone of my discussion with Seto. Yelling? Really? Not just strongly disagree? I guess thats the disadvantage with the written word over face-to-face interaction.- 1934 replies

Well why should they? You dont keep your opinions to yourself. Sure mb you dont want non-macross related material overwhelming a macross site, but you protesting somewhat overmuch. You hate Robotech. Big deal. Everybody knows already. But dont tell me then that you dont have any desire to see the Star Trek that YOU enjoy, rather than whats being dished out. If a lot of people like crap then its not crap because a lot of people like it? Its not and never will be music Why do you use the royal we to refer to yourself? (Not you pengbuzz) Really? Are you serious? SDF became popular because of Min Mei and not the sci-fi space opera elements and the mecha battles? SDF was great (and other macross series) and the singing and love triangle was only a part of the story, and were in proper context. Now its forced. Now there must be weird explanations for why music is effective. Now it must be a weapon effective under all circumstances - even where there's no sound. your tastes are not at all in line with those of99.99999999% of the fandom. Sad for them. What is this gritty anyway? This isnt like Mad Max where everything is ugly and decrepit. You write as if battles in anime and science fiction are not enjoyable and uplifting. Whats not to like about the multi-coloured energy blasts and explosions - its not depressing - its inspiring. Gundam got me to even appreciate pink as a colour for energy blasts. Admit it , even later toomanypeacefulaliens Star Trek series (where there were no longer salt vampires, Gorn encounters and Spock making jokes) were more enjoyable during the Dominion War and when Species 8472 showed up.- 1934 replies

So why go on and on about it then? Its existence, or lack there of, makes zero difference to Macross. You can be a fan of either or both, and plenty of people are. Are you an employee or a shareholder? It doesnt matter if it sells if all it means is more of that. Rap sells. Is that a good thing if it means we get less ochestral music because resources were wasted on it? Its actually painful seeing how good some Gundam series are now by comparison - Macross can be great again if these distractions were put back in their proper place and proportions. Untrue. Its the most popular segment but the Southern Cross and Mospaeda/New Generation portions have their fans. Or prehaps you meant its the only portion certain individuals at HG like to THINK no-one cares about.- 1934 replies

And then? What fantastic event is then supposed to happen? The End of Idols? No more obligatory love triangles? Will music simply be emotion evoking sound once more? Will Macross be great again?- 1934 replies

All the alien ships and mecha have these weird names like Queadol Magdomilla or Rin Nadow Lojm and such. Knowing them helps in searches. I always have to check valkyrie designations myself.

Well since you mentioned 40k I found that authors I enjoyed were C.S. Goto, Gordon Rennie, William King and Dan Abnet. Dan Abnet has also done some nice Marvel work, like : Groot and Rocket Racoon Steal the Galaxy Which is available as a prose novel or an audio drama.- 1934 replies

The only valkyrie on my list. So I can do that co-op scene with the VF-1J from the Macross Crusade card. On the GBP, am I the only one who looks at the DX VF-1J in Battroid mode and thinks its missing a to-scale DX Quel Quallie? I couldnt afford it, I dont have space - but everytime I look at it thats what my mind's eye sees next to it.

tekering's BItComp entry #2 - Quamzin resin kit
Podtastic replied to tekering's topic in The Workshop!
True I'm going to digress horrifically here but this talk of scale reminds me of a discussion I had with a friend back in the 80s - before the net/I even heard of Macross: Me: Bla and I want the Zentraedi to have X genetic enhancements... Friend: You know there's this new game called warhammer 40 000... Me: And to be X tall. Friend: You wont even come up to his boot. Me: And their rifles to deliver X per shot... Friend: They can destroy mountain ranges! Me: And to have X fleets each consisting of X ships... Friend: What does EEEEEEEE mean on my calculator? Me: And the Mainbase to be X size. Friend: If something with that much mass nears the solar system... Discussions of scale...its all a matter of perspective -

Meaning they sell. Sex sells too, but that doesnt make prostitution great. Macross isnt as cool as it could be if the content/merchandise were as expanded as Star Wars. Fans are forced to buy garage kits because the official lines are so limited. -

Probably. But with HMR I always thought it was just a case of practicality. They cant make the Regults and valks to scale because : 1) Larger Regults = more cost and less chance of sale 2) Smaller valks means main item Japanese customers want is less attractive If there wasnt so much obsession with idol dollys and valks Macross would be much richer both in both animation and model / toy collecting. -
