    Apparently like the other AoZ MGs this is based on the Mk. II 2.0 (and is fully complete instead of a conversion kit as some speculation had suggested), so if you were wanting a Quel 2.0, this is likely the only way you get it. hurraaayyyy

    Aside from Yutaka Izubuchi (the mecha designer) doing some supplemental designs for DYRL, I don't think there's any direct connection. But he's from the same era that spawned Kawamori, and I'm sure ideas were traded back and forth between the two and others. Even if not, there's only so far you can take chobham armor without things starting to look alike. I've asked about UNT Spacy before, too, and from what I remember, "UNT Spacy" was basically superseded by "EFF"/"EFSF"/"EFGF" in the late 90s for... reasons. Probably wanted something they could more easily trademark/copyright/etc. Macross went through something similar with its "UN Spacy" changing to the "NUNS" (New UN Spacy, how very creative) name and new logo, though in that case I suspect they had additional incentive given the whole Harmony Gold Robotech mess.

    Directed by perennial Resident Evil director Paul Anderson IIRC, hence why it stars his wife Mila Jovovich. Last I heard it was going to be a Gate-style story where a portal opens up and MH monsters start pouring through. The main characters are a modern military outfit who find their weapons ineffective and learn to fashion weapons from the monsters themselves in order to fight them. As a premise, it's better than it could be... is probably the most positive spin I can put on it.

    Actually, for all the problems that movie has, I do kind of love it expressly because of its similarities to M+. Its heart is in the right place, it just was never going to be able to execute as successfully as M+.

    Just wanted to post because I didn't notice until now. During the final Isamu/Guld fight in M+, the YF-19 loses not just its gunpod but its head laser as well. It also doesn't just lose its gunpod. The gunpod is struck by a projectile and breaks in half. A closer-up of the broken head laser. This close I'm not sure how I missed it the first time. And while the gunpod magically re-appears later on... ...the head laser never does. At first I thought this was an animation error showing it on the bottom of the YF a la the original VF-1... ...but on closer inspection it's just the other wing.

    Do they still have rights to Mospeada and Southern Cross? I'm 95% sure that's a no, but if they do I don't see why they don't just cut their losses and start over with what they have left... which, given, isn't a lot, but it's still more substantial than what passes for Robotech original content.

    Finally watched the Avengers trailer. Seems fine. Dunno what everyone are getting bent out of shape about... Thoughts after watching the full FF7 gameplay presentation: - SE have never been able to merge real-time and menu-based combat well. I'd rather this be entirely real-time with contextual macros and shortcuts to access the various abilities than try to offer up both a "slow" and "fast" style of play. - Peppering the screen with numbers has always hurt my eyes, and this is no different. Just show a health bar. If you MUST have damage numbers, make them bold and easily distinguishable against what's going on on-screen, and for god's sake keep them centered properly on their respective characters. Barret obscuring his enemy in a cloud of 1's and 2's does nothing but make it harder to determine what said enemy is doing. - The HUD in general could really do with a major overhaul. Character health in the lower right, commands on the lower left, that's classic FF layout, but it worked for classic FF, it doesn't work for an action game like this where you need to be able to tell vital statistics with just a moment's glance, especially when you also make it transparent. Tiny little ATB and Limit bars, too. Again, just show a health bar, with allies' stats minimized above/below it. When you switch characters, the pertinent stats get maximized. Maybe a character portrait next to each set of stats instead of a name, because humans are visual creatures and we can identify a face faster than we can the vague outline that a person's name's individual letters make. On the commands front, group the "Mode" prompt (Triangle) with the character stats, get rid of the "Attack" prompt altogether because who wouldn't know that Square is Attack at this point?, and also get rid of the "Menu" prompt, especially if there will be moments you can't use it. Compare this shoddy mockup I made. At a glance, I think it already does a better job giving you immediate information than the official HUD. vs

    FFVI iOS/Android/Steam was a top-to-bottom remake, coded and asseted from scratch. But Remake, Remaster, Reboot, the game industry has well bungled all of those terms now. EDIT: Apparently there's a mod for that:

    We did, it was for mobile (later Steam), and it was not received very well thanks to bad art decisions.

    I figured that, too, but it's still just... too fluid. Her ice dress in the first movie was still just a dress. Like, I'm imagining how she would take this thing off, and it seems like it would be... painful. At the very least, it'd be like ripping a bandaid off your entire collarbone and shoulders. But bleh. It's a super minor nitpick. As to the rest of the trailer... yeah, looks fine, I guess. The niece saw it and was excited for more Elsa.

    IIRC, most BDs are region-free. I don't know how/if that applies to anime distro companies, though. Let's hope that's the case.
