Robotech Academy - You want a new Robotech series...?
TangledThorns replied to Einherjar's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
If Carl Macek was alive and behind this then I'd probably put money into it. I don't like the idea of a 'Academy' storyline, that's something that was also discussed as a Star Trek (Star Trek: Academy) series years ago. Robotech had a great storyline with their version on protoculture so I think it'd be better if HG went bold and just rebooted the series using fresh characher/mecha designs so they would be free of any legal issues with the licensing from the original Japanese series.- 2025 replies

I watched the first two episodes on Netflix yesterday. The dubbing could of been better but everything else sounded and looked great on my large screen TV.

It'd be nice if this series came to Netflix just like Knight of Sidonia did.

I watched the first episode and it reminds me of The Last Resort which had a somewhat more tense directing and acting. The only thing that keeps me glued to The Last Ship is Rhona Mitra

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
TangledThorns replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I watched the CGI Captain Harlock subbed. Nice animation but the story and ending was meh. Still, much better than the Space Battleship Yamato live action film and it'd be cool if they originally did in that style, but with a far better story. -
The clockwork nuke reminded me of the clockwork nuke in Goldfinger.

Nailed it. They even have to kill the enemy a certain way too. Good series but why is there such a lack of original thinking in Japan lately? -
I wanted to see this movie but after reading the reviews here and on sites I trust I decided to skip it. I'll just wait till it comes to FIOS or Netflix, it'll look just as good on my 65in plasma

Even MORE remake madness.......
TangledThorns replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
'Old Painless' never gets old It's also cool that the guy that played Hawkins, Shane Black, is involved with the reboot. But as far as weapons being dated I think you could see America's high-tech Vs Predator tech in the reboot too. -

I don't get why people are freaking about the reboot. None of the sequels and spin-offs have been as good as the first film so I'm totally OK with a reboot if done right. The first film was good but it wasn't Citizen Kane, it was Rambo meets Alien and that was just plain cool. The biggest mistake they can make with this reboot is not filming it for rated R. I think that's what hurt the Robocop reboot too. -
It'd still be a win, a big one too, if it was pushed to a Summer release. Yes, I know 2016 is crowded but this is Star Wars.

Yeah, I agree. I guess they wanted to split up all the main characters this season too.

Tom Cruise does have a great handle on sci-fi so I wouldn't mind seeing in a spin-off Star Wars film.

How To Train Your Dragon 2 (2014)
TangledThorns replied to batman1234's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Saw it last night with the wife, there were more adults in the theater than kids It's probably the most detailed CGI animated film I've seen yet. Wish I saw it in 3D but my wife gets motion sickness from it, ugh. Was there a post credits scene?- 28 replies

Knowing James Cameron we should at least see Michael Biehn and/or Bill Paxton in the sequels. I read a Michael Biehn interview where James Cameron originally wanted him to play the villain in Avatar but was afraid of the Aliens comparison.

The trailer looks great. I hope the final film doesn't try to be too clever and turn people off by doing so. -
I'm former military (USCG, Army) and I just turn on suspension of disbelief when I see stuff that I know wouldn't happen in real life. Same goes for when I see a huge green lizard monster on the screen too

Yeah, I bought one of the last Corsair gun metal mechanical keyboards this year. I never thought I'd pay $130 for a keyboard but its nice, soooo nice. -
I tried watching the Toonami dubbed version, it was awful so I watched the original subbed version and loved it. The show is ridiculous, lol. Brings me back to the Dirty Pair/Crusher Joe anime of the 1980s.

I thought it was better than I expected, Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt have sci-fi action nailed down. Hard to believe Tom Cruise is 50! The supporting cast, especially Bill Paxton, was enjoyable too.- 180 replies
