  1. Man I LOVE the LowVis. Every time I see a pic of it I love it more. LOL, I remembered doing the trade but I wasn't sure with what member! Man, back then I think I had one yammy product, a 1/48 VF-1S and strike parts. Oh the money I have spent since then... Sorry, I didn't realize back on page 58 you had shown those other pics. VERY NICE. I'll see what pics I can dig up. I kinda feel bad posting 'em here though since I don't have them hosted on a website anywhere. Eh, what the heck, here's my MacrossTV & DYRL stuff (warning, not all of it is Yamato so I am venturing a little OT)
  2. Thank you Mr. March for the education on the whole "mecha" thing. I guess since much of this conversation has been about starships and stuff I should have realized that sooner. I guess I was thinking mecha was somehow derived from robot or jinzo-ningen concepts (pardon my jinzo spelling there, i probably butchered it).
  3. Is there such a thing as an American mecha designer? What mecha would they have created? I can only think of the armored frames in MatrixII and the cargo frame in Aliens.
  4. AWESOME display fansubs! Seems like you dumped super Max for another VF-1S Focker. CDn - very intimidating Hikky VF-1S. I can almost hear a thug Hikkie saying "yeah, that's how I roll."
  5. Aww man, I love drinking. I love drinking as much as I love Macross. I can prove it, the other night I thought "I could go out drinking or I could buy another Valk." I stayed home and bought another Valk.
  6. Unless your salad dressing is made of people... "Soylen dressing is PEOPLE!!!" Man, I am so retarded. Anyway, the VF-1 looks like a modern day (um, for the 1970s) western fighter to me and the Zent ships are big blocky floating things and so is the SDF-1. I don't really see how Macross fits the bill here. Other than that the difference is almost entirely the difference between drawn Science Fiction and live-action science fiction. There are plenty of exceptions too. As Hollywood budgets get bigger you'll notice that SciFi props are getting sleeker and sleeker.
  7. Holy crap, Penny, is that you? Oh, sorry, for a second there I thought you were my exgirlfriend.
  8. Yep Hiriyu, I was watching it also. That's the second time I've seen it go for $400+ but typically it doesn't break $250. I don't know why it has such random peaks in price. I was planning to bid $220 on it...
  9. I think RT Background music would also make great cell phone rings.
  10. I second the George Clooney speech being great. Humorously adding his "world's sexiest man 1997" title in there was great. He actually seems to have a sense of humor similar to Stewart's. I will also agree that Stewart did a great job. I also liked the opening spoof where all the past hosts refused to consider doing the job again. I really only watched bits and pieces but the parts I caught were done well. Man, I'd be thrilled if they'd get rid of the crappy song performances next year.
  11. Seriously, this is the kind of thing that makes future projects by other people less likely because they remember getting burned and then don't want to put money up early. That's a BL thing. I find it really humorous that he actually told everyone he was giving up for a while and taking on another project. I'm gonna try that at work tomorrow and let you know how my bosses feel. -
  12. It featured a non-violent protagonist who danced around to evade the enemy. The only people who could continue to suspend their disbelief during that performance are children.
  13. I feel like Tom Hanks' character in BIG. I just don't get it. A movie version of Macross7 ought to have a darker more foreboding feel. How can you accomplish that with a guy dancing through battles while piloting his mech with a guitar and never hurting anyone? There really aren't even that many deaths in the show either, the "vampires" normally just suck the "spiritia" out of their foes. No, I don't think this story would make a good movie at all.... UNLESS You would have to do it as a kiddy-fied version! Do it super-deformed (Super-Deformed Fortress Macross SEVEN) and otherwise Pokemon it out. If you went for that feel you could certainly make it foreboding to children at times and you wouldn't even need to update the look of the Protodevlin. In this kiddy version you would start with a BOMBA! concert and then have them shoot out into Space a la Voltron when the Varatu appear. After their combined "SOUND ATTACK!" the Varatu would run away. After the mystery of where the bad guys came from and a few bad guy victories (where they suck the spirita out of a few characters) the magic Sound Force would go to their planet and subdue them with the "ULTIMATE SOUND ATTACK!" It would end with super-deformed Basara giving super-deformed Geppy a hug and credits would roll as he turned to the camera, gave a big thumbs up, and yelled "BOMBA!" Now that, is how the Mac7 movie would work.
  14. Shin's VF-0A has got to be the next version released in my estimation. It would involve the least modification. After that, we'd be really lucky to see a VF-0D. I would love to see them do the armor but I don't know how feasible that'd be. With the VF-1 the fast packs and armor can go on any number of variations of the VF-1... the GBP for the VF-0 could only go on the 0S and 0A. Questions from those who watched Mac0 more recently than me: 1) Is there a CF VF-0 or would that be the same as Shin's VF-0A? 2) Were there 2 versions of the SV-51 or 3? I know DD had a blackish one, and the girl had a reddish one, but was there also a purple one?
  15. For some reason, this kinda makes me wanna see a Jetfire JM (and I'm not even a big TF guy). Beautiful work you've done on all your custom JMs so far. Stuff like this makes me really want to do some experimenting of my own.
  16. I'm pretty much the same way. I heard RT first and then Macross and felt that the Macross background music was almost comical when I heard it first played. The vocal tracks were immediately much much better but to this date I really can't get behind the original background music. It just doesn't menace me enough. I grew up listening to Operation Ivy, Bad Religion, Jawbreaker, and metal.
  17. Do the space whales get a cameo?
  18. I can't say I agree with this logic at all. First, we're comparing apples to oranges. The 1/72s were flawed toys that broke easily (11B and 19 at least). Had they been packaged in fighter mode people would have broke them getting them into battloid mode or getting them back into fighter mode again. They were gonna break... the question was just when. The 11B in fighter mode would have saved it from some hip breaking within the packaging. The 1/48s wouldn't be broken in the same way at all. Had they been shipped like the original takas I think everything would be just fine.
  19. Did you guys notice how the guy who had, up to that point, seemed to be the leader of the others said that someone else was going to be angry and he seemed genuinely afraid? Apparently we haven't met the real leader of the others yet. The make-up kit and costumes did seem to be an interesting twist... seems like there's a bit of a ruse taking place. My bet on the ending: the whole island is set-up, possibly entirely man-made, for weapons and other scientific testing. Unfortunately, this doesn't explain the extremely small world all the characters seem to live in. Everybody is pretty much related to each other so some force was obviously driving them together before they even got on the plane. How on Earth can this show possibly explain that???
  20. Look at the doo-hickey! Edit - you can see it best in the GERWALK pic where I have flipped it up for no good reason. That little clip grabs your backpack and holds it tight. In the battloid pic you can see (squint) the white clip holding the backpack and then the neckbrace that comes with the Super/Strike parts inserted. Edit 2 - note that you also have to push the flap that the head comes through forward (toward the chest) until it clicks. Someone will hopefully have better pics for you. I need to go drink now.
  21. My "2 buy" list is getting big: 1) Camo LV 2) Camo LV GBP 3) Stealth Super 4) VF-0 Thank goodness I refuse to buy DYRL valks and non-Macross toys like the Garland or I'd be seriously SCREWED.
  22. The VF-0 had GBP armor on when it was on an aircraft carrier. It just makes a battloid into a more destroid type vehicle. I actually think that makes sense for the camo-theme. This thing could be stationed in jungles as heavy defense with the alternative of pursuit by ditching the GBP. The other two modes have the legs right so it must have just been a goof-up.
  23. Couple quick corrections. 1) The ROBOTECH line of models existed before HG's Robotech cartoon. Revell was just importing models under the name. It's definitely not something anyone should label as "stealing" because it allowed american model builders to build cool mechs... long before anyone was interested in distributing japanese cartoons in the US. 2) I'm pretty sure the Orguss II were in the original Orguss cartoon... either that or my Hong Kong subs are really bad. I believe Kei piloted the original Orguss and Olsen later piloted the Orguss II (either that or cannon fodder Orguss were called the Orguss IIs). Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
  24. I was forced to bludgeon the wallet voices to death when I was searching for my Bandai Elint and SuperO. Now I just hear the occasional whisper. I think they're saying to just get the Super Stealth and ignore the standard stealth. Either that or it's telling me to miss work tomorrow and just get super drunk while watching the clown kung-fu commercial repeatedly.
  25. The only thing that he didn't have (Manning) was a really good drunk scene. If they showed him good and wasted once and not thinking it was a bad thing at all then he would have been nearly a dead-ringer.
