I will definitely second that! I'm pretty sure that's a heavily modified Imai model.
-
I definitely wish you the best of luck!

You guys remember this sweet Cyclone custom? You might drop a load I think member Silverdragon also has pics somewhere of a custom Gakken 1/35 Shadow Fighter he did. IIRC he was also selling casts of the head he used for people who wanted to make their own customs.

Oh so right you are! Sorry, when I talk about toys "made" I should really specify that I mean "Made it into production." I got no funds for prototype hunting. While I may do more rambling than Carl, I can assure you that he is the MOSPEADA guru.

There's a pretty simple root to the assertion that Toynami used the Imai kits molds... that being that Toynami actually did purchase the molds from whoever had possession of them. The engineering of the toy is also pretty spot on to the engineering of the model which had to save Toynami some big headaches. From there they must have just attempted to recreate the model molds in a manner suitable for toys and added a few new details and did some tweaking where they saw fit. Did they physically use the model molds in the creation of the toy? No, as you say, that'd be preposterous. That being said, if you stand a built model of the Imai kit next to an MPC the similarities are scary... and the scale is the same. The original Imai kit wasn't quite 1/48 scale as advertised but it was bigger than 1/55... which is exactly why the Toynami MPC is the same.

I LOVE MOSPEADA!!! I can show you pics of every MOSPEADA toy ever made... but unfortunately I don't have any pics of sweet customs.

Technically, they're not correct 1/55 scale. They're somewhere between 1/55 and 1/48 scale. Here's a pic that might help shed some light:

Well, Khyron fights in an Officer's Pod and there's nothing in the Robotech world to indicate how long it's been since Breetai was last involved in a fight. As far as being in a bioroid, despite the real-world legal issues, I think it makes sense. According to the RT backstory the Zents had pitiful weaponry that was easy to make and supply to such a vast army whilst the Masters had super mechs since they had much fewer soldiers. So, with much fewer Zents in the 'verse, and the REF in possession of the Masters resources, it would make sense that the Zents onboard would have their weaponry upgraded. I think the story has also changed from all Zents being macronized in the books to all Zents being micronized in PTTSC so Power Armor is out of the question while Bioroids are meant for micronized pilots. I agree with the common theory that HG will not get anywhere near anything that looks Macross influenced. Not necessarily because they think they'd lose a fight... more just not wanting to get in a fight that can be easily avoided.

Try putting them up for like $169.99 and list it as a Rick MPC and say you're throwing in Ben FREE! For some reason... I think you'll get a buyer quicker that way then listing them as a lot. It's funny how eBay psychology works.
-
I don't own any of the PTTSC comics but I saw a couple scans of the mech in question but they were all too dark for me to figure it out. It is my understanding that some of the MOSPEADA art that never made it into the series may make some appearances in The Shadow Chronicles OVA since clearly HG has the rights to do so. I kinda think this was just fans really hoping they'd finally see the armored Beta in action though and now that the synchro Beta has been announced I think the armored Beta is doomed to never be seen. In summary... I dunno
-
Actually, that's MOSPEADA prototype art. They did some really cool stuff before they decided on the final look of the Legioss.
-
completed listings show anywhere from $85 to $170 for Rick. $20 is all you can fetch for a Ben these days.

Man I was really hoping for a picture that showed some box...

People are making a mountain out of a mole hill as far as that character list goes. Much of that is just for the Prelude comics... many of those characters won't be in the new OVA. Obviously we won't be seing Breetai, the Regent, and I think even Lisa is not going to be in the new show. So, if you're worried about this being the Sentinels... it is my understanding that the Prelude comics were meant to put a nice tidy bow on that series so the new animation won't have to do anything to do with that story.

Don't we have an automotive thread? I got no idea what the backstory here is but I'm glad your runaway car decided to return to you...

In the future they're going to create recreational drugs where the only side-affect is weight loss. It's gonna be SWEET.

I got the 5 ep Mac0 DVD for $5 and the subtitles are PERFECT. You can definitely find Mac0 nice and cheap. A sidenote to that though... the eBay user that sold it to me disappeared very quickly after I got it... and my copy just has "MACROSS ZERO" written with a sharpee on a DVD+R Protoculture is a power source... HAHAHA (you can sense the sphincters of most MW users quinching as they read that... um, that is, if you get the Robotech joke there) Protoculture are the beings who started it all. They create a big galactic empire. They go to planets and manipulate the DNA of the inhabitants there to some day resemble the Protoculture and fit into the galactic empire. They create warrior species meant to protect the empire. The warrior species goes to war with itself so they create a SUPER warrior species to kill the warrior species. The SUPER warrior species gets infected by beings from a parallel universe and begin brainwashing the original warrior species. The original warrior species breaks up into two (or three if you divide the meltrans and zentrans) groups, the brainwashed "supervision army" vs. the non-brainwashed Zentraedi. The Supervision Army loses a ship when it crashes into Earth. When the Zentraedi arrive to pick it up/destroy it, they find that Earth has developed into what is essentially a protoculture colony (as the protoculture had hoped it would). Zero tells the story of mankind's passing the Protoculture's test to actually be an inductee into the Protoculture Republic. MacrossTV tells the story of what happens when mankind is the unknowing last reminants of a once great republic... and then sets off to rebuild it... kinda. NOTE - everything I said is rife with my own understanding... which may very well be wrong. MacrossTV will help you understand everything but I'm one of those people who contend the Macross universe relies heavily on not-animated information. Basically, you better go to the compendium to help you understand things or read the FAQs here.

OMG, it really is named "Thunder Hummer" and not "Thunder Hammer"... I always thought a Thunder Hummer was something best experienced with Sunrise Adams. Anyway, after the "OMFG, that thing looks so cool" initial glance I've become less thrilled with the Thunder Hummer. It doesn't look like it does as good a job on the whole armor bit as a GBP and almost looks like a GBP prototype. Is there a link to some official Macross canon background info on this particular item?

Can we add the "We're DRUNK!" caption to the 4th picture? -
As Shin drags Sara's near lifeless corpse to the escape pod, Sara asks Shin to take off her helmet...

You clearly haven't seen Macross Wars: A New Hope yet. You see, in that series we actually learn that the force is present in all living beings and that Protoculture were the first Jedis. Their order spread throughout the 'verse until their own creations, the Sith Lords known as the Evals, mutated becoming super powerful evil creatures. A great galactic war then spread out across the cosmos. Before the Proto-jedis were completely defeated by the Sith they set up some safe-guards on their distant colony planets to make sure that the colony planets wouldn't be more enfluenced by the dark side of the force than the light side. Earth is a colony planet and the AFOS is similar to the tunnel of fear that Yoda made Luke pass through. If the humans can overcome hatred and learn to love then they can become true universal Jedis. Shin accomlishes this by putting down his light saber when approaching the AFOS. In the end, he, and the AFOS, both vanish like ObiWan Kenobe.

I remember when people thought that Jack Black talking about being in King Kong was a big Internet joke. Turns out it was honest publicity for the film (with a Jack Black spin on it). Maybe word of "Planes on a Snake" made it onto the Internet and everyone thought it was a hilarious joke... only to show up as an actual movie.

That reminds me of the scene in Macross Plus where Myung is about to be raped by the Sharon controlled tentacles of random machinery... I felt that was very hentai of the froating head... If you don't like DYRL then I know there's no reasoning with you. Besides, you're missing the point that HG would actually be able to now craft the story in a way that fit to the following OVAs and could make a coherent universe...
-
I have the same feeling and it does seem like something that those familiar with the "original" RT will have to take a moment occasionally to reconcile. Too bad they can't make a 2 hour OVA for each of the original three archs and super condense the story, give it better animation, fill in the gaps and remove the errors that were created by stitching unrelated shows together, and add character designs that unified everything. Since that can never be, we're gonna have to live with character designs that may jar us old familiars -
-
It would appear HG and all parties involved aren't looking to just update the series with modern animation but to also make a series that is finally completely there own. None of the characters seem to resemble their predecessors at all with the exception of retained hair color (even that doesn't appear to always tie to previous incarnations). It would seem the point is to make it so Robotech fans recognize the characters because of their names and backstories while MOSPEADA, Southern Cross (if there are any), and Macross fans won't recognize a thing at all (um, except the mechs... and I bet if this becomes a series of OVAs the latter ones will have completely new designed mechs). I think it's a great step toward expanding a gap between Robotech and the originals... which is something I think both Robotech fans and fans of the originals would very much like to see at this point.
