  1. Dude, Kevin needs to write a book after this whole legal mess settles and describe this "treachery" as I, and I'm sure many others, am genuinely intrigued! Honestly, I pick on people all the time for using the RPG statistics as anything meaningful in relation to the cartoons it is derived from but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy leafing through my own copies of those books. Even when the art seemed off to me I enjoyed it for being someone else's perspective on it. As an accountant who has seen many horrible things happen to intelligent companies my heart really goes out to this group. I hate to see someone forced ot sell their prized possessions, I hate to see someone forced to go public with their dirty laundry, but I very much respect his love for his craft enough to do both. Good luck to the crew at Palladium. I see RT.com has a new poll for members about this very situation.

    Low Viz 3.0

I don't know how I feel about the paint scheme but it looks like the job was impeccably done. Really impressive stuff, not a drip or smudge to speak of.
  3. I'm gonna ignore the whole fire aspect of this thread. I'm gonna stick to the "what's your most prized toy?" Limiting to one is damn near impossible. My first BIG purchase was a perfect condition Taka SDF-1 though... I think that gives it a special significance to me.
  4. CFs can be found ultra cheap right now. $130 should be a pretty easy mark to find them at.
  5. Didn't we used to have a "Look at the deal I scored on eBay" thread? Somethin' like that. I think it might also fit the "auctions of great absurdity" thread too. Either way you are a lucky man. I still have yet to transform my YF-19... I'd buy one for $50 just so I could see in person what it looks like in jet mode!
  6. Usually, yes, but in the 1/48 world it doesn't seem to matter. Since the later editions have obvious improvements it kind of counters the "rareness" factor of the first editions. Another good example of this is the M+ YF-19. The first edition seems equal in price to the 1.5 and 2nd editions. Some day, way down the road, the 1st editions will probably all appreciate a bit better than the reissues. Buying 1/48s as an investment is a very bad idea though with Yamato being so willing to offer reissues.
  7. Uh, Sithlord, if I remember your collection correctly, you have three of FRIGGIN' EVERYTHING. Why did you decide to single out those particular items? Sad fact, As a rule I don't keep duplicates. The only time I have two of something is when I'm mixing and matching pieces or came across something at such a great deal I'm just holding it for an investment (and the stray "ooops" gift someone gives me). 3 x Rick Hunter MPC (Don't laugh, I bought them as half price for an investment and am hoping eBay will convert them into xmas shopping money this year) I also have a few extra Alphas but heck if I know which ones at the moment... they'll probably get sold around xmas too
  8. I agree with everything you said but this part: Confuses me. The 1/60 got the Q-Raus and just about every valk you can get and is now getting the 0S. The only VF-1 1/60s I think were skipped were Max's 1A and Hik's VF-1S. Sure, enthusiasm these days is 1/48 based... but that's just because the 0S hasn't hit yet As far as the 1/60 vs MPC thing goes, like you said, it's a personal taste thing. If you're going to display the thing in fighter mode then there's no doubt the 1/60 is the big winner. If other things are more important then hey, maybe the MPC has some pluses. I just try to do a little stickin' up for the MPC because of the rabid hate people 'round these parts spray at newcomers for either having purchased the MPCs or considering it. If it's not a 1/48 VF-1, it's just a VF-1, if you're getting the item for an extreme discount in either case you'll probably be happy with what you got. Wait a minute... I think I see a dead horse somewhere else I need to beat.
  9. I own approximately 8-10 of each type of toy and stand by my opinion. They're both just average toys with a plethora of things that could be better... things that are better on the 1/48. This whole "easily broken" image the MPC has is strange to me... it certainly *feels* easier to break than the chunkies but I don't really know anyone who has broken an MPC. Obviously I'm not saying they aren't breakable, I just don't see them as fragile. A few of mine have taken falls. Both the MPCs and the 1/60s make a similar thud when they fall from a distance (not that I wanted to ever know that). With the MPC missiles fly off and the toy needs adjusting, with the 1/60 the legs pop off and need to be put back in, I wouldn't describe either as fragile. Definitely note that I'm just talking about about the VF-1 MPCs here. The Alpha MPCs are definitely easy to break but damn if they don't look pretty.
  10. The MPCs are equal to the Yamato 1/60s and you can get both of them for about $45 pretty easily (depending on which ones you want). Wheareas the Yamato 1/60s have annoying screw top covers that flake off and get lost, a nearly useless GERWALK mode, funky hips in battloid, and squashed heads the MPCs have floppy legs in fighter mode, a much worse sculpt, and less poseability. I'm in the minority in prefering the MPC over the Yamato 1/60. Honestly, if there's one thing we all agree on its how great the Yamato 1/48 is. No offense to chunky monkey fans but the only reason to own a Bandai or a Taka is for purely sentimental reasons... or to give a kid a toy that's cheap and not easily broken. Edit - Yamato's Mac+ toys are pretty terrible. I love 'em straight because I love the mechs they depict but otherwise those toys are BAD. Think of an extremely fragile toy with a complex transformation and paint that chips off if you look at it funny and you've got a Yammy Mac+ toy. I think that's the real reason they're becoming collectible... because most of them get broken. Don't mention that around here though.
  11. but people do like the original LV. Like I said, this looks like a bad custom CF. They shouldn't have made it so obvious they were just splashing paint on a pre-existing toy. They started fresh with the LV, they should have made the brown tone darker on this toy so it looked like they were starting fresh here too. Instead, I see it and think "What happened to that CF?" The other paint schemes you mentioned would require Yamato to start from scratch also, I think that's what we all want.
  12. I heard that if you go to AOL.com you can download or otherwise watch the entire Brisco series. Can't say I've done it but that's the word on the street.
  13. My immediate problem with the LVII was how decidedly CF it is. If the tones weren't identical to the CF (outside of the painted portion) I'd probably be a lot happier with it overall. Instead I feel like I just bought a funky custom CF... and I'm not much into customs or CFs. The LV1 was completely different from all the valks. I don't see it and think "Wow, they just repainted a Hikaru 1A" or something like that.
  14. I wonder why the boxes aren't on display? I wonder if these will also be "limited version"s. Is "limited version" the same thing as "limited edition"? I tend to think so.
  15. I'm glad I bought the GBP II to cover up how ugly this valk is... too bad the GBP can't be covered by anything to hide it.... They should have made the gun green or somethin'. I'm talkin' both the GU-44 and the head laser. Both stand out to me...
  16. There is a rumor that the new HG Robotech series will be easily adaptable to a MOSPEADA sequel for Japan, it's just a rumor at this point. In the world of Robotech they didn't really have a choice. If they were going to make a sequel it was going to have to come after The New Generation (and thus feature MOSPEADA art and designs). The other option would have been to go way in the future like they were going to try with Robotech 3000 before it got moth-balled. I think the fans wanted a more direct sequel though anyway. Actually, it wouldn't have worked at all. Macek and crew's original intention was to figure out a way to get the series on American broadcasts. The broadcasters mandated it be ONE series of 85 episodes. Hence, three series were brutally smashed into one series of 84 episodes.... and then Macek made an edit between Macross and Super Dimensional Calvary to create an 85th episode. All of the original series are superior, including SDC Southern Cross. The Robotech Masters arc or Robotech makes very little sense in comparison to SDC Southern Cross. The original series has a very heavy "body-snatchers" theme that was meant to be scary. Robotech ditched the focus on that plot device and managed to take any cool factor "The Masters" had and flushed it down the toilet. I'm not sure which preview you saw, got a link? I thought I heard that one of the voice actors was Spike from Cowboy Bebop (I think he's in all anime dubs) and another was Mark Hammil. Both are considered pretty good. Spike mighta just been for that UN clip though... my memory is way fuzzy on who was doing voices.
  17. LOL, you're almost there man... you can't have a pic in your sig at all. - although that is a funny-a$$ pic.
  18. Uh, holytoledo69, no animated avatars or pics in sigs.
  19. They should just do a price drop to $59.99 each... but for obvious reasons that's impossible. I think if that had been Toynami's price point all along the toy world would have been a much better place. The $300 point is almost retail plus a free set of "bookends" I'd have absolutely no use for. I hear they look great... but I don't display my boxes so I don't see a point.
  20. I call two seater VF-1s first! Yamato's big move now seems to be the super short production run followed by the reissue later. It makes some sense economically... you never really have to worry about drowning your market. If your first run falters then at least you only have a few hundred items not selling instead of several thousands. So, Yamato ships out enough to satisfy preorders and a few more and then watches the market to decide when to make more preorders available. The cycle continues and the demand stays high and store owners don't get stuck with back stock. The only people it really screws are those people waiting for the big price drop because no one gets stuck with excess inventory... not for very long at least.
  21. I don't get it, I have seen Macross7... why do you think I haven't? I do forget the names of the characters, and it wasn't something I watched in the last six months, but I've definitely seen it... the whole darn thing. The point was on topic also... you were saying that the Sentinels had some way bad ideas... I pointed out that Mac7 had 'em too but some of us overlook them and enjoy the story anyway. Kinda going back to the whole "too soon to judge." Since you're going into it with the mentality that it will be the biggest animated turd ever... because apparently Americans can not come up with good anime in your book, then I'm guessing no matter what you're going to hate it.
  22. Lemme check, you're okay with the Protodevlin designs but not ok with The Sentinels? Guitars piloting Valks okay... boxy spaceship not? You are a wonder of fancy good sir. How do we feel about space whales? Seriously, it's one thing to knock the character designs (which still seems silly to me.. I don't know what you guys expected from HG and Robotech) but another one for a Mac7 fan to claim that there were too many fantasy elements in the RT world. I'm not even knocking Mac7 here, I'm just saying the basis for conclusion should have some consideration of foundation.
  23. I believe the White Drew Carey has found this anecdotal SD evidence.
  24. According to HG the new Robotech is being done on a shoestring budget as well and there's no doubt it will be an improvement of 1980s anime (will it be an improvement over late 1990s anime? I dunno). I should hope Macross got better as its sequels progressed (although, as was pointed out earlier, the character designs did get funky in MacII and Mac+). Do You Remember Love was a movie with a TON of funding in comparison... it better look friggin' fantastic in comparison. Seriously people, stop bashing the GCM mech and ship designs... it's just harsh. Macross featured green floating poos, let GCM and this heavily GCM influenced sequel use floating boxes. Admittedly, it's the Legioss, Tread, and Ride Armors that made MOSPEADA... the boxy-ass super ships were just kinda background imagery. Yes, Robotech is re-using them... but that makes sense since they are the current spaceship in Robotech's universe at the end of TNG... in fact, I think it's the very same ship that is in the last episode of Robotech so it'd be really crazy if suddenly it morphed into this ultra cool looking ship.
  25. FM, that's the new all black Yamato stand. There's also the chromed stand coming out too. I wonder if the stands are being released with the 0S or with the 1/48s...
