  1. WAY.TOO.BIG Reduce image size to 900 pixels wide as DarrinG recommended. Beyond that I can't believe you got your MPC wet! You're a braver man than I.
  2. I put this together a while back.... it's been pointed out that I scored the old releases pretty high compared to the newer ones but if you click the individual links you should be able to get the big picture. Sorry, I didn't bother with a straight v1 vs v2 comparison. http://anymoon.com/blog/2008/09/22/vf-1-to...omparison-post/
  3. Alternate subjects for this thread: "How can Yamato get you to pay for the same thing again?" "What should Yamato have gotten right the first time?" "What improvements can Yamato make to their current toys to render them obsolete so you will buy virtually the same thing again?" I find the ideas of slight improvements to this line of toys so yamato can spend 2010 milking like a dairy farmer really boring.
  4. LOL, c'mon... you can't be too upset... the show's been over for a long while now. I avoided the BSG thread entirely until I caught up on the DVDs. It's not as much fun as talking about each episode as you live through them... but it's the only way to be safe.
  5. eh nevermind, I think we all get it.
  6. No, that's just you regurgitating what you've read on the Internet from people who never bothered looking at both toys at the same time. The Yamato 25th anniversary toy is absolutely NOT an original paint scheme that Yamato struggled to create. In fact, the Yamato 25th anniversary is a very COMMON paint scheme that's been slabbed on numerous products, race cars, and advertising campaigns over the years. They took a toy that was made black and then put some gold in a few places and mispelled some words on it. But what about the Stealth? It's black, maybe Toynami ripped it off right? No... other than the fact they're dark you can't really say they look like an inverted paint scheme or something cheap like that. EDIT - there are some similarities to be sure... but also notable differences. In the end, if toys being DARK makes them rip-offs of other paint schemes then yes, Toynami TOTALLY ripped off Yamato's Stealth AND their VF-1(25) toy. More realistically, people like dark toys and Toynami created their own paint scheme using Navy Blue as the base and black and gold as their trim. It does have both black and gold... but man, that's a pretty big leap to full rip-off status. Of all the stuff you can nail HG and Toynami for... I don't believe the paint scheme of the Stealth is a valid criticism. Also, it's a non-canon product and they have merchandising rights for the VF-1 outside of Japan so there's nothing really worth griping over there.
  7. a little note, ff made the same mistake i did when I took pictures of my VF-22S, namely he forgot to rotate the pilot which puts them further away from the cockpit and makes the lack of heatshield look far more damning. It still sucks there's not heatshield but it's not as bad as you'd think from those pics.
  8. Beagle Ride Armor... Oh, Macross toy... Impossible to say... lots of excellent choices but nothing that truly blew my socks off.

    HLJ Yamato sale

Nora SV-51 os a wonderful toy... but it does have a gaudy paint scheme. SAL shipping to SF Bay Area took about two weeks for my order... about a week slower than EMS. Overdrive sometimes gets me stuff in 3 or 4 days with EMS.
  10. I don't know how safe the assumption it is but it certainly is the prevalent assumption now with Bandai not mentioning VF100 at recent shows and items like the RVF overdue.
  11. 1) Boobs are AWESOME 2) I hope I can find these on sale some day. Maybe next year's HLJ Yamato sale....
  12. 1) When did I say anything about "sanitized"? 2) Clothes "more in tune with the times." This is a timeline outside of our own, there's no such thing as "in tune with the times." If you're speaking from a BSG standpoint, the times were varied depending on the colony. Furthermore, the whole topic is nonsensical because it plain and simple doesn't matter for the context of the show. Never once, that I recall, did a plot point revolve around clothing. 3) Your arguments come off as entirely superficial. "Meh, this show was too pretty, that show was too dirty." You're like a step away from announcing you hate certain books because the covers are lame.
  13. In theory, yes, you can see much more detail in an extreme close up. Sure, there are variables that can make that not true... a blurry picture from any range isn't very helpful but at the same time a picture doesn't have to be huge, just clear.
  14. To get great deals: Don't buy toys until they're at least 1 year old. Then, buy them on super sale as stores make room for new product. Just be careful with anything that might get sold out.
  15. Agreed, details seen in extreme close-ups are often much LESS noticeable in person. There have been countless times where it wasn't until editing pictures for my website that I noticed little build issues on toys. That said, bent turrets are big enough where I don't think we'll have any problem seeing those and as soon as you notice it it will drive you crazy forever. I've got one on preorder and I'll honor it but if I was at all on the fence I'd wait to buy this thing until a repaint or some reviews.
  16. I kinda think someone is focusing on all the stuff that really doesn't matter... like clothes... and ignoring all the stuff that actually made the show good... like compelling characters. Actually, no, you're saying the drama sucked. I'll agree, there were some plot holes and deadends but I think you're tucked a little too tightly within your own box to enjoy a large swab of scifi. You have preconceived notions based on Earth-man history as to what a future MUST be like that is going to ruin all depictions of the future that don't jive with what you've imagined. On that note, I'll bet you loved The Fifth Element (and I loved it so no knocking). That seems to be right up your notion of the future's alley (but then again, that's also showing Earth people in the future so it would make sense).
  17. While The Sentinels did get pretty crazy on a few different levels it's kind of wrong as adults to look back at the alien designs for a children's TV show and say "Oh my God, those are so lame." The Karbarrans are just Wookies... you got a problem with Chewbacca? The name, on the other hand, is almost as bad as the squid people being from Calamari or whatever it was in Star Wars. The Karbarrans... Care-bear-ans... So clever.
  18. I've been saying that a Mospeada movie would be a great idea for a long time. Mospeada is so episodic it wouldn't be that insane to cut it down to a 2 hour movie. They could fix some of the plot contrivances that had folks with jets driving motorcycles across country and stuff like that. Make it the story of a guy crash-landing on Earth. Dealing with Earth people so sick of war they're willing to turn on their own. Have him be a hardened alien hating bigot that meets a beautiful girl and takes her along with him so he can protect her. Then she turns out to be an evolved alien, big fight, nearly scorched Earth, the end.
  19. It doesn't FEEL at all like BSG for a while and it's pretty predictable after the big explosion but still, I'd say it was decent.
  20. I should make one of those quizzes on how to tell if you're a nerd and if you are, how to tell if you're high functioning. Let's just say you're high functioning if you have a job that doesn't indulge your nerdy obssesions, a significant other that doesn't indulge your nerdy obsessions, own a vehicle that is not a vespa/scooter (or no vehicle if you're a super urbanite), and a living space that doesn't require familial assistance (meaning you live on your own and pay your own rent). If you make your living blogging about anime while working part time in a comic book store and you live in your parents' basement and the closest thing you've come to intercourse is watching hentai then you are LOW functioning.
  21. You will NEVER hear from them if Yamato never gets back to them. Did you ask for a part for a toy that is currently in production? All Overdrive does is act as a forwarding service for international customers. You write Overdrive "Hey, my toy broke, I need X part" and Overdrive forwards that to Yamato. Then Overdrive occasionally gets a big box of nothing but toy parts. They look who asked for what and contact you. If your part never comes in they won't write you to indicate that it still hasn't arrived.
  22. I meant no offense as I consider myself a high-functioning nerd but I also hate to be the bearer of bad news but, assuming you're an adult, you're a nerd too. Now I don't want to try to draw up some strict definition for "nerd" but it's generally safe to say it's VERY nerdy for a grown man to collect toys... even if they occasionally call their toys "collectibles." The good news is, if you enjoy what you do then you shouldn't be bothered by the label. Also, it's in bad taste in any social class to be a braggart (even if their is some semblance in shame in the highest numbers). I find the last thing my friends with yachts and such do is boast about what they've spent although all are certainly happy to share their enthusiasm like we do with our threads dedicated to toys. Remember, it's not the size of the collection that matters, it's the pleasure you give or derive with it.
  23. Is this like nerdom's equivalent to a biggest dick competition?
  24. I apologize, I was thinking of that super fold pack for some reason. Brain fart.
  25. The tornado armor is a pink color... this is the unpainted prototype. EDIT - no, i am not joking.
