I thought the Jotun was only an experimental cross bred craft?? One-of-a-kind, or something or other. Looking at the last episode of Macross, a Jotun appears with a wierd looking shield. It is just before the Ging-eng (chinese version subtitled) rams the Macross in a last ditch effort to destroy it. I would like to show you guys a pic but I have been trying to get a screen cap but have not been successful.

In "Virgin Road" the valkyrie is used towards the end of the episode during the an attack. Max is flying the VF-1D and Milia is the co-pilot. In the scene where they are shooting at attacking battlepods Milia decides she does not want to kill anymore and instructs max to shoot the battlepods where the legs join the the main body, just below the cockpit. This would only disable the battlepods but would not kill the pilots. Just take a look at the episode and you'll see why it does have a purpose for existing.
