Bandai loves to make things chunky.
-
It looks good in both modes unlike the MH though.

Wow this looks the best out of all of them. I hope as some people mentioned, that it stays together ok. In an ideal world a high price should mean we should expect much better build quality, not high in price only because of demand. And yeah if this doesn't turn out to be a failure I would like to see beagle handle the legioss and tread. CMs you had your turn. ..Give the noob a chance.. Hrm it's almost like Robocop was announced in the robocop 1 movie, and poor old ED 209 had to be scrapped in favour of the slimmer model. I'm not suggesting that megahouse and all the others have big clumsy feet and cant walk up and down stairs, just that Beagle being new and all is doing a great job so far. Maybe those other companies might learn something from this new design and make future toys like it, at a better price?.. is what I'm thinking... I don't mind if it requires a stand to be honest. The original design itself was a bit ridiculous anyway. Having good wheels to me is more important. Maybe it's like my need for seeing big beefy hands on the vf-1 valks? haha.

The Megazone 23 Garland By Yamato Thread
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to Renato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I recently bought a Factory colour Garland from HLJ when it was on sale. If I were you, get that because it has Shogo as the rider. No shoulder breakages, so there's nothing to fear on the later releases. Yamato USA will replace busted shoulders on older ones too. So if you like the red garland and don't mind waiting, just go ahead and buy it. Because the problem has been fixed and they admit it is there fault. So you are entitled to get the fix free as it is their own fault. If people wait wait wait maybe it delays them from bothering to release new MZ23 toys as they will interpret lack of buys as meaning that people are not interested in it? I want to see more from MZ 23. I intend to get the protogarland one day. Just been procrastinating. It would have been good if they put as much attention to BGC as they are on megazone though. But still I can barely keep up with yamato's macross releases and with bandai now coming up with all the macross frontier toys maybe its best they take things slowly.- 1057 replies

Same here. I think a lot of it has to do with the macross plus anime though. Recently watching it, it made me like it even more than the vf-1 which is my fave valk in terms of look, simplicity and practical use (looks to have nice set of upgrades and is the workhorse of space war I). Basically it's the first valk and gets the most recognition and the simplicity of the transformation is part of the appeal. (it seems like each step to get from on mode to another is natural) The 21 though, just has a nice smooth look to it. It's not angular like the vf-17, but it looks like it would be more agile (the power is from its speed and efficiency not from bulk of its form or mass - lots of power in small space) and precise. I would have chosen vf-11 if this was only about fighter mode, but the 11 doesn't have that powerful look. It's light, unlike the vf-17, but it doesn't suggest good speed. (ie flat squarish surfaces in robot mode for example)

Roy's plane is white though isn't it? Ozuma's is greyish. So you are still getting different colors if you get both Roy 1/60 vf-1 and Ozuma 1/60 vf-25 aren't you? Or do you just mean the color of the trimming on the plane? I'm going to try to get one of each. Bandai: Please make a set that includes the armor with the main fighter. I'd rather buy that as one package than to search for fast packs and armor.

Yamato make great accurate looking fighters. Bandai make great chunky robots that look like you could hold them without something breaking too much. Bandai is cheaper, been around longer, and has more experience. but... I always felt like Bandai would prefer to let gundam hog all the attention than macross for some reason. Where are the PG macross kits? Come on show us your best.. But it seems like the attitude is: "well we won;t make as much from macross as a property compared to gundam so why should we?" The argument isn't really about "bandai being unable to make quality toys", more like the feeling that the macross series in general doesn't warrant their attention as much so "being able to make profit from the masses" is more important than "creating toys that fans of macross wish to see". If there wasn't a macross F tv series, bandai would just be content re-releasing the old chunky munky forever because they would see no reason to waste energy making new vf-1 toys. So that's why we love yamato. Not because we don't think bandai is capable of great toys. But that for a long time, we all didn't get much macross coming from them that are new. Whether the 1/100 are made or not is not as important as to whether it could be good as a toy at that scale. As Graham mentioned the size of the thing might mean it could break easily for something that complex. VF-1 isn't as complex. If bandai can and do pull it off then yippeee! Great! But then will we see much detail and will parts click together firmly and will it be an accurate sculpt at this scale? These are problems for valks with complex transformations. Maybe bandai can do it but there isn't much interest in them at a small size?

I just want another company to make the perfect Legioss And Tread toy...still after all these years and advances in toy technology there isn't a updated toy of this great design (a chunky valkyrie if you will) that everyone can be satisfied with. Beagle?? You going to make one to take on toynami and CMs? Or do we have to wait until we are 90 before another company makes an attempt?

LIVE ACTION ROBOTECH (WB gets the rights)
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
If robotech were just a high budget CG movie like the final fantasy movies would you be happier? The new star wars CG movie is coming. And I was just thinking: maybe what robotech needed was a reboot with quality animation and that was it? Kinda like the DYRL for robotech but in CG heh -
Err maybe in the future when yamato gets to reissuing all the vf-0 stuff. (if it ever happens) With megazone toys, you can just get a replacement. I'm thinking someone here who is japanese who might be able to buy it off you cheap, buys it. They can then complain to yamato that the shoulders have cracked, and then yamato must honour the repair of defective products to a customer who is from japan. Currently they wouldn't be able to offer free replacement parts to people outside japan due to the HG legal mess. (that would mean yamato admits that it is dealing directly with people outside japan and they don't want to do that. Which is why we are all scared to buy first release yamato macross toys No support is possible from them for defective toys for all of us international import toy buyers) But all the non-macross yamato items seem to allow you to claim free replacment pieces for defective toys. (the shoulder fix for the garland for example) So I'm going to assume that the japanese customers in japan can also claim free *replacements when their stuff breaks. What you could do is see if anyone here who lives in japan wants to buy it off you, they then get a cheap vf-0 and can ask for the replacement. Anyone tried that trick? You then hold on to your money and buy a run of vf-0 that has the fixes, that may appear in future. (now that yamato has better QC and has solved the problem) *by replacements I mean parts that are the new permanently-fixed pieces, not just being given another flawed part with the same design/materials flaws as the original early release. ie The new parts you get sent solve the old problem for good and for free since it is their fault.
-
That sucks.... you should sell it on ebay to a japanese guy who can get free shoulders and just buy a fixed release.
-
I would recommend getting the revoltechs then. Save up for the sv-51 and yf-21 in the meantime though. Forget about 1/60 vf-1 for now. The vf-1 is popular so you'll never have a problem buying it due to how many companies make vf-1 toys. It's the most milked valk of all. The stuff you should get are the harder-to-make stuff like 19 and 21 which no other company has bothered with yet. The vf-1 can be bought in so many different sizes and shapes that its not funny. But it's your money.... I can tell you that you will love the sv-51 in all modes. It just looks that cool. The wings folding up, the stand that comes with it, the way the boosters sit on the wings, the way the feet look like these demon hooves. It just looks evil. What type of things do you look for in a toy: accuracy to the lineart? ability to transform? poseablity? materials? (does it matter how much "heft" it has?) details? the mecha design? affordable price? (definitely get the bandai vf-25 in that case) Maybe you should wait for more info on the 1/60 vf-11 that yamato is going to come out with before deciding?

YF-19 VS YF-21 FIGHTER DESIGN => YOUR CHOICE
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to Ghostkiller's topic in Toys
21 for me. The hood makes it look like an assassin and its about to stalk something and shoot it in the back by sneaking. The 19 looks 'heroic'. It's got the overdone samurai shoulder armor hanging off to the sides making it an easier target, the uniboob which doesn't look good in robot mode, and the cowboy hip guns which make a cool weapon but to be honest seems like an afterthought more than anything. Not as good as wrist guns. I think the 21 has better design as a fighter: the wings and fins can bend, dual gunpods, better armored head turret (robots do not need heads they are not humans!) look more fast and agile than the 19 (and guld is a crappier pilot than dyson so the fighter is what allows him to stay close to him in performance) and do not forget... the best pilots of each race Max and Miria use these (VF-22 which is based on the 21) so it's just like DYRL all over again: max has the blue Qrau and Milia has the Red Qrau. Together they are unstoppable using these new Qrau. The end result is.. 21 is for the elite pilots like gamlin max and milia who are calm under pressure. The flashy loose canon pilots like hikaru and dyson have the 19 which is slightly crappier than the 21 for most situations. (only 1 gunpod, having to go into robot mode just to change clips - really poor design imo) I could go into other things like the ability of the 21 to eject its limbs and still be able to fly around in fighter mode, the vectored thrust, brainwave controls etc but that's boring. Best to just say it outclasses the 19 which just wants to look fancy because the person who designed it wants to be different and never got enough attention as a kid. Even guld mentioned in the fight against the ghost that he has a better chance of beating it with his superior fighter while dyson should save the girl. Dyson grudgingly agreeing means he knows the unsafe yf-19 is more likley to make a mistake than the more-reliable yf-21 with all the advanced gimmicks it is loaded with. The 19 even has fast packs on the shoulders which don't look practical since it obstructs the view. Yang must have watched evangelion and copied the idea of putting a big lump there. Whereas if you look at the yf-21 is has a slicker and more practical design: it can conceal the weapons in fighter mode better, the limbs are rounded instead of blocky so air flows around it smoother in battroid mode. Canons in its arms make it hard to completely disarm at close range, wings are useful in battroid mode, skinny legs provide less drag in gerwalk mode, it's got better balance since the shield is on either arm in gerwalk whereas the 19 has the shield on 1 side, if one arm gets blown off then jettisoning won't affect the fighter mode etc etc.. 21 is a better design. The end! Two bad yamato can't make a VF-22. -
I'd buy the 21 first. Then get the upcoming SV-51 ivanov (the second run with fixes) Two of yamato's best fighter modes imo. So happy with my nora sv-51..
-
Let them do the vf-11 first. Plus they've got the 1/60 vf-1 toys coming along. I don't think I can get everything at once.
-
I like the transforming model more than the toy too. But the toy is cool and I will probably get it as well. When are the japanese going to just build a robot for real that can transform into a fighter? They must have limited space surely? So it would save money having everything transform into something.

Official 1/60 YF-21 News & Picture Thread (ver.2)
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to Graham's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I prefer gamlin's scheme. I like my stealth valks to look black to follow the theme of the vf-17. The only bright thing might be a bright stripe to show "I'm elite!". -
Oz will probably end up dying and Alto inherits the "cool older brother figure" robot. Shot in the back while drunk and watching a hentai anime on his screen which distracted him long enough to get beaten in a dogfight. ..(er don't take it seriously I haven't watched far into the series yet, if that actually happened and I spoiled it, sorry. heh)

Bandai 1/72 Scale Macross Frontier Plastic Models
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to Graham's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Loving the look of the model over the toy. Yes I'm not a model kit guy (no patience or skills) but so far it's doesn't look bad to me. It says in that gunota article that it is the latter age group (the thirty year olds) that are buying gunpla and sustaining it, more than the younger kids. http://aeug.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archiv...345944912736370 Are the gunpla the easy to make stuff? I have no idea about gundam models (casual watcher of the shows more than a fan) as I am a toy guy. But what I would love to see is a larger transforming kit of all my fave VF from macross. Hasegawa can make the dedicated mode models but I would love for bandai to make higher detailed models of bigger size that can be built but would be cheaper than a similar sized toy made to be played around with by the average kid. (ie big enough to hold without breaking stuff, but retaining details not on the toys and possibly having a highly complex transformation at the same time) The reason I like that idea is because I don't really play with my toys, and I do treat them like display pieces, (barely ever touching them) but when I like to transform them, I don't want to worry about things cracking or causing stress on it. If a bandai model of a larger size (than 1/72) meant more room and thicker material able to be used, I could get the best of both worlds. Now my question is: how come bandai don't even try to make macross models at a Perfect Grade level of complexity/size like with the gundam shows? I think a lot of macross fans would love to get something like it. For me the thing that spoils the look of the valkyrie is when bandai make the mecha a little too chunky for the sake of the toys which I can imagine would be designed to be handled by kids who might be a little rougher on them than the guy who just wants to display something on the shelf. Is it just a question of them thinking that macross is a smaller market than gundam so they haven't bothered? Unlike collectors, I don't really care about 'weight' or 'heft' just the finished look of the thing so it appears good when blown up to size. I do want it to be able to transform, (just like the cg model shows in the ova/tv series/movie) but without necessarily having the chunky body of the toys. Now if a lot of the older guys; the hardcore fans of macross, are interested in accurate Valks in model form, why don't bandai try to put the same level of attention towards making Macross PG kits as they do for Gundam? Just seems like a wasted opportunity since older guy doesn't play with the toys of there is less of a need to make them chunky. -
Ozma looks cooler. And about the price: if these sell well let's hope bandai do some NEW macross 7 valks too. I want a vf-11c with full armor thanks! Bandai VF-22 would look funny next to the yamato yf-21. All the hard work is already done. All they have to do is clone the yamato toy and change a head and some plates. People will just end up buying a vf-22 and modding it to a yf-21 if it means they can save money..

Yamato must be sweating bullets. Maybe this will mean yamato can finally make us all those rare mecha that don't appear in shows? Variable Glaug FTW!

LIVE ACTION ROBOTECH (WB gets the rights)
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I just want to say this: HG are not the only ones who rip off things. http://bucketbros.com/text/disney-dreamworks-feud.html In general if there is money generated from the original, they see it as "it's not risky to make now" because all they have to do is copy a formula. Of course that's not what people who want a good robotech movie want. RT is not transformers.
