The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread

For $190 I think I’m out. I only want the Tie Bomber from the January 1st wave and I have a hard time coming up with sets to buy to justify the GWP. I find the original much more endearing and the stickers are a real downer. The Forest Men GWP had two printed shields I believe.

It seems like all the Blacktron logos have been realized with stickers which is a bit of a bummer:

Oh, no doubt about that. I think that is another issue I have with the Metal Structure line: I would prefer if all the part count goes into articulation instead of these busy hyper detailed gimmicks. But clearly this is not what Bandai is trying to achieve. I will be much happier with a Metal Build Sazabi.

Hacchaka's review of the Metal Structure Sazabi: https://hacchaka.net/archives/52090036.html While this looks cool, I don’t think these are for me. To massive and big and not pleasant to handle. They lend themselves for great pictures though: Being a fan of the Katoki MG designs this looks a bit off to me. [edit:] What I found really fascinating in Hacchaka’s review was the notion that the Sazabi in maintenance mode looks like the Nightingale, which has to be on purpose.

I will try to get this. I had the original set as a kid and rebought it last year. Funny that the original Invader set had less than half as many pieces (148) than this new one. I've never bought from the official Lego store. Do I need to sign up for the VIP program to be eligible for getting the GWP?

I will just redirect my funds to something else. Maybe a Lego Space set I still need or a Metal Build Gundam to complete the collection. I will keep an eye out at the Japanese aftermarket, maybe I can snipe a Victory Saber from there. I have to say that was probably the worst "crowdfunding" campaign I participated in. Sure, I lost $100 in the Maas Toys Seekers but there it was clear that it was a scam early on. With Victory Saber you had a good amount of hype behind the release for more than a year.- 17164 replies

That was also the thought I had… Still, I believe that Zavvi messed up. The person ordering from Hasbro either didn’t undertake the way HasLab projects work, or they expected a certain number of people cancel before release so they ordered less than orders received on their side (like overbooking of airplane seats).- 17164 replies

I reached out to Hasbro Pulse after all I got as a response from Zavvi was that they received insufficient stock: If it really is a widespread issue and not just a couple vocal consumers it might be worth reaching out to Hasbro so that they know that there is a bigger issue. I was under the impression that Zavvi was just acting as a proxy and forwarding the numbers that they received to Hasbro but something went wrong.- 17164 replies

Got a notification that my HasLab Victory Saber I ordered during the funding period via Zavvi was canceled due to "insufficient stock". Apparently it is happening to other people throughout Europe that thought they backed the project through Zavvi too. Merry Christmas to me I guess.- 17164 replies

Isn’t the shield the main reason to buy that set? I know it is for me.

I wonder what’s up with those big forehead crests. Leader Skyquake also has a massive forehead crest… …maybe a new design language?- 17164 replies

Well, you know… …with the refund you could make the anime-export preorder for the Sazabi less painful. I should stop giving people stupid, unwanted advise and go back to bed.

Maybe they are contractually obligated to make that figure if they want to keep the Marvel (Disney) license.
-
I’m super interested in that. Hopefully they find good writers so it doesn’t get to fanboy-y. Also the writers need to be able to convey that the 40k universe is not a serious setting. They need to subtly capture the irony of the universe. I wonder what the best approach would be. In my mind diving directly into the Horus Heresy wouldn’t be the best move. Too grand, too many characters and concepts for the average viewer. Maybe some smaller side story like in the Space Marine game would be the correct approach. Maybe a Firstborn Marine being transformed into a Primaris might be a good start to introduce 40k to people who are not super fans.

They should have announced that earlier. Maybe I would have backed Deathsaurus to have a complete set of Micromasters.- 17164 replies

The good thing about MMC toys is that they don’t feel like Hasbro products; which is what I ultimately want. I would be careful with the IDW version since a higher number of units gad issues with the mechanism that keep the swing bars locked in robot mode, my own copy included. MMC was kind enough to provide replacement pieces but they might not have any more in the future. With Star Saber I was hoping for a fun toy to just pick up and play with. Which is an experience non of the other options offer. It looks like this is exactly what we are getting. Plus most of the available options are terrible so the HasLab Star Saber is in a good position of ranking high on my charts.- 17164 replies

Nice review Mike. I’m glad you had good look with QC on your copy. I hope mine is fine. I ordered through Zavvi and they said it was ready to ship. Hopefully I will have it before the holidays. [edit:] @M'Kyuun I think it would be great to get a Skyquake in the original G2 color (maybe even a Machine Wars Starscream).- 17164 replies

FansHobby is doing a G1 Darkwing/Dreadwind Buster/Hydra set. They are a bit stylized and I’m not a big fan of FansHobby products in general but they made it to the prototype stage: More images here: https://www.tfw2005.com/boards/threads/fanshobby-mb-24-dark-wing.1233082/ XTB also showed renders of a Buster (so in the Japanese colors) but nothing else.- 17164 replies

Anthony's Customs review for HasLab Star Saber is here: I was curious why they send out review samples for this toy since all units are already sold but Anthony's Customs goes a little bit into that since he talks about the conditions for getting a review sample and the one most important to Hasbro was mentioning the Deathsaurus HasLab project. So I would say Hasbro feared that Deathsaurus might not fund so the influencers should drum up some hype for it. Other than that, if you win the QC lottery, this will be a great toy. The chrome seems to be prone to flaking off though.- 17164 replies

TruForce Collectibles: Mega Man X Action Figure
Scyla replied to chyll2's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
If anyone missed out on the Truforce Mega Man X (original blue color), a new preorder for January 2023 popped up over at BBTS: https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/18158 It is still one of the best action figures (if not the best) in my collection so I highly recommend it. -
Those are good news. I would totally see a part 2 in cinemas (and buy the physical release too). While I didn’t like the CG over Alita's face (Rosa Salazar looks like a perfect Alita) it was a good movie.
