If you add "difficulty in acquisition" to the checklist of what defines a "grail"...then yes, both are grails....however, I have seen less of the 1/48 Hikaru weathered -1Js recently....thus the higher price for it when compared to the 1/60 version....

So looks like PO Madness July 3rd at 4PM JST.....

In any printed media? Or the first officially licensed all Macross publication? If in any printed media...it may have been one of the many anime magazines of the era...or perhaps the promo poster advertising the TV series?

The designs of the mecha have always been a bright spot even when the rest of the show wasn't too great. I think the artbooks may be one of the last Macross collectibles I give up on.

Seriously doubt it.... Most VF collectors place more value on the latest in PT advancements over nostalgia.
