Shouldn't this be in the "Worst SF" thread? -

Time to update this thread. A few more pictures here. -
Good job on the Flanker, Benjo. Lookin forward to your VF-25. IMO it's a bitch to build cause you end up with so many sub-assemblys. - The G has make-up applied:

Considering how long these prototypes are around I wouldn't even bet on next christmas. But the labels next to them have a "2012" on them.

AKIRA LIVE ACTION MOVIE = Life Support?
electric indigo replied to Macross007's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I had no problems with remakes at all (or a live-action Akira) if these weren't, for the majority, dumbed-down, streamlined star vehicles that exploit the success of original creations that had to go the hard way and achieved their popularity on their own merit. -

That is actually a good idea. Now they only need to shift location to Neo-Tokyo. -

@ce25254 - it's good to know that the hobby doesn't die with us old geezers. - I tried to bring some life to these neglected areas of the G kit.

AKIRA LIVE ACTION MOVIE = Life Support?

Ironic how a live action Akira had to wait until some genius saw the chance to market it as a Twilight spin-off. The good news is that Neill Blomkamp will direct the remake in 5 years... -

Don't waste your energy with the PE inner landing bay bulkheads (except maybe if you plan to install some lightsources there). The biggest aftermarket improvements IMO are the resin railguns and maybe the PE sheets for the landing bay recesses in the main hull. I've seen the decals on a friend's kit and they look good, but personally, I like painted effects more.

It's pretty straightforward (if you have an airbrush). I primed the part with Tamiya dark sea grey, which will remain the color of the ribbed areas. Using sky grey with a 1:1 thinner ration, I set my single-action Badger airbrush to where it barely emits paint. With this setting you can get as close as 1 cm to the surface and paint 2 mm lines. I applied the paint very irregularly in repeated layers, drawing circles, spots and zig-zag lines until I reached the desired coverage. It's a slow process, but doesn't need any additional weathering methods. Finally, I randomly picked out single panels and gave them an additional coat of paint. I will use graphit powder on the ribbed areas to get a light metallic shine there.

Testing surface effects for my Galactica.

Ok I made it through the second book and still wonder if it is really badly written or my brain is too small to grasp the brilliance of it. The novel goes straight into the pitfall of SF literature and throws a metric shitload of exposition at the reader on every page. And most of it is delivered by the already underdeveloped characters, who also happen to reason about food and beaverages occasionally (no pineapple salad, though). The inter-military conspiracies deliver some suspense, but then again end up in endless exposition & dialogue. If the author feels he has discussed one aspect long enough, he draws another card from his hat, so that the reader never gets really involved with the story, but watches the narrator do his thing. Now as much as I hate by-the-numbers storytelling, this one had benefitted from a tighter concept and better use of the somewhat interesting characters. In a bad light, it looks like an aircraft nerd's attempt to re-invent Solaris. On the plus side, it has a (supposedly) interesting concept of conflict with the aliens, and some epic scenes like the prelude to the second entry into the Mysterious Battle Zone.

Any other "Thing" fans out there?
electric indigo replied to HappyPenguins's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
To be fair, the alien makeup was pretty ridiculous. The movie is best enjoyed on a well-worn VHS copy. -
I want to do a standart build with no upgrade parts or aftermarket decals and see how far I get. The paintjob will make or break the model. The only kit I ever considered lighting is the upcoming Blade Runner Spinner. Do you have pics of your Galactica in FTL mode?

Switching between several builds at the moment.
