I guess the best solution would be to not apply a panel line wash to the flat areas to push the lines back a bit. Of course Moebius should have done a better job there. The kit has the same size as the Monogram Galactica and thus is in scale with the Moebius Nu Galactica. One more shot of the Viper (kit is from a fellow modeler) -
The Galactica is scheduled for early 2014. Like I said before, Moebius used the Timeslip kit for reference, so it's as accurate as you get. In the meantime, you can get the new Classic Viper from HLJ: http://www.hlj.com/product/MOE940/Sci Beware that, apparently, you can get only 80s style, deeply plowed panel lines from Moebius' contractor: (to the right is the Monogram/Revell Viper with manually scribed lines)

I switched to Tamiya acrylics 20 years ago and I encourage everyone to give them a try. I doubt the fumes (alcohol) do more damage to your brain than a few beers. Makes the hobby so much more convenient.

I thinks it's Blomkamp's personal experience that there are places on this earth that defy all subtlety. Without the juxtaposition of these places, the over-the-top gated community and the not-so-over-the-top latino ghetto, the film would have been just another action flick. A feeling of uneasiness comes from the realization that the SF gloss over is actually quite thin, that, in many aspects, the world of Elysium is closer than we might want. And compared to "District 9" the level of filth is dialed down a few notches. The L.A. of Elysium is not a bad place to live (it still has some form of law enforcement, working opportunities and hospitals) compared to what you see in real world based movies like "Cidade de Deus" or "Gomorra", where civilization has deteriorated completely.

I can't believe how people complain about a lack of subtlety in this movie when we have cardboard comic book villains and heroes in any other SF movie.

Got the art book today and it's full of the coolest robot & spaceship designs and some Syd Mead to top it off. Highly recommended, even if you didn't like the movie that much.

The RG GP-01s (and the Gundam 3.0) are the best things Bandai has released. The inner leg frames are mechanical wonders, and I like the overall design and the level of details they put in there.

Just saw it yesterday and was far too entertained to care about the plot holes. The movie never lets you down with suspense or awesome designs. I've been waiting for this kind of movie since reading "Neuromancer" in the 80s, I really hope the studios realize that there is a demand for SF beyond the comic book superhero stuff. Copley as Kruger really steals the show with his portrayal of a sick guy you really don't want to run into. His personal coup d'état was a well-timed surprise. I liked how, besides the very obvious, the social commentary was played in the subtext - the terror of bureaucracy, accountants in the MOD, remote-control killings, "don't breathe on me".
