  1. Great work. I really like the choice of colors and the clean look of the mecha. I've been a little bored looking at weathered mecha for a while. It's nice to see this put together so well. That metallic grey looks sharp! The mixture of tones and colors is visually stunning. You've really put some effort into a complimenting palette.
  2. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Damn, myk, that is some funny stuff
  3. Interesting custom. It looks very nice. It must be very big to be in scale with an action figure (you say it's about 2 feet, that's pretty cool). If you can have someone stand in for a picture, it would be cool to see the scale. Or maybe use an object that is easy to relate to for scale, like a coin or pop can sitting next to it.
  4. This is old. I think there was a thread about this on GundamWatch years ago. Still funny though
  5. Wow. If they are planning to deal with Stark's addictions, Downey is perfectly cast! Not only can the guy really act well, but he's got personal history custom fit to that particular Iron Man story arc. A bold move.

Often times it difficult to discern whether people are trying to get it perfect or berating themselves for flaws in their 3D models most of us would call nitpicking. If people do realize that a "perfect" representation is impossible, I'm content that they continue producing very impressive works that please the fans like me, such as Rodavan's fantastic model. Part of my comment is also to politely encourage project completion. It'd be nice to see less time spent "perfecting" these models and more time spent doing something with them, like animations or wallpapers. Some of these projects have been going on for years now and show no signs of ever being completed. Part of producing a great piece of art is having the will to say "It's finished" and move forward. Artists I realize are their own worst critics, but if people couldn't enjoy the Mona Lisa because Da Vinci was constantly repainting the thing, we'd all lose out
  7. I always disliked geek shirts anyway. Whenever I got one, I gave it away as soon as possible. They just look ugly, like tourist wear or heavy metal t-shirts. I'll never be caught in one.
  8. No it isn't, but my point was that the lasers would have limitations besides overheating and would be far from limitless in use. Whether significant or just notable, the power used by such high enegery weapons as the lasers on a Valkyrie would be a concern given constant use, despite being more efficient and featuring more "ammunition" than the gunpod. Hence, the inclusion of missiles and gundpods on a Valkyrie, obviously meant to complement both combat function and limitations of supply. The versatility of the Valkyrie over most of the Zentradi Regults/Fighters was one of the reason's for the success of mecha in combat.

No. There's a reason no human hand can draw a perfect circle. It's the act of abstraction on a fundamental level. Each piece of lineart drawn freehand will always be different from another by the same artist, even drawings meant to be indentical from the same angle and scale. Accomplished skill can reduce the degree of noticable difference to slight variations, but it's impossible to get two drawings identical in every line, proportion, and especially curve. So the absolute accuracy down to each individual pixel in computer art is impossible to match in any freehand drawing (detractors often comment to this as a lacking aspect of CG art). So what piece of lineart is to be used as the absolute reference for any given 3D model of a mecha, given that each piece of lineart is different? Hence the dilemma and the futile quest for a "perfect" 3D model of a lineart drawing.
  10. Gundam fans incorporating MSG mecha styles into Macross. Without doubt. The designs scream "Pilfered from Mobile Suit <insert model here>". The fan designs don't even look like the destroids, which is what heavily armored mecha in the Macross universe should look like (and by extension, "The Macross Saga"). I applaud the effort and enthusiasm. But I'm thankful this is a Robotech labelled fan project
  11. The lasers would only be "limitless" in use so long as the VF-1's reactors are fed with sufficient reactant. And of course, no VF has an unlimited supply of reactant; they all have limited fuel supplies despite the enormous range they enjoy and the efficiency of OT generators. Overheating was mentioned, but only when the lasers are used in a continuous fire mode (when Max and Kakizaki try to cut their way out of the Zentradi ship). It's clear in most of the battle sequences that the lasers can fire in bursts again and again without problems. Also, the lasers are seen capable of dispatching Regults and other Zentradi mecha with one or two shots, so it seems very unlikely the lasers aren't the anti-mehca guns that they are depicted as. Still, it's logical to assume that even in burst mode, the lasers use up more than just a little power and hence, drain that power from the Valkyries generators, using up more fuel.

Getting it "perfect according to the lineart" is impossible people, since the lineart for most mecha is a skewed representation of what the mecha would look like in real life anyway. The VF-1 is a prime example, not even Kawamori could reproduce the "lineart look" faithfully in 3D. Wings don't shrink in 3D I think Rodavan's model is damn fine and I wouldn't shed one tear about its accuracy if it was used in a mighty Macross movie in CGI
  13. Hahahaha, this is my favorite
  14. So in one fell swoop, Boll loses both the "I'm just a tough guy who can beat people up" card and the "I did it as a PR stunt" card. This guy just doesn't want to quit until every conceivable shread of his credibility is destroyed. I gotta admit, the guy is a psychological curiosity. It's like watching a car crash

The body shape departs from the original and the guns are far too small, but the quality and detail of the model is very good. I really like the weathering and minor wear.
  16. The movie was "haha funny" but not really what I'd call a strong comedy. It's noteriety comes from being a Star Wars spoof, but doesn't really have much going for it beyond that. I suppose the TV show may go in a direction that proves it's value beyond the name rights attached to it, but this sounds pretty weak so far.
  17. Thanks for telling me what I already know
  18. Yeah, you're probably right.
  19. I'm thinking the same thing. This new scan really makes the new YF-19 look better than the shots released previously.
  20. I agree. Still can't understand, but the artwork is good.
  21. Now this looks promising. Lots of action and done by Frank Miller. This could be a very cool film. Is it just me, or does the lead Spartan resemble Brian Blessed? I mean, much younger of course. Surreal.
  22. Still haven't a clue what this is about.
  23. Oh, I see what you're saying. So the Zentradi capital ships can detect fold/defold reactions from a range of 10 light years. That's a very cool piece of trivia. Something I did not know until now. Thanks for the link to the compendium. Very cool.
  24. Very nice. I'm very excited about this new production.
  25. I don't know what fine detail the others are referring to, but I find none of the over-produced design elements that make the Transformers from the film such a mess to be found in that picture of the X-Men sentinel above. The sentinel has a cohesive design motif, flow, and adequate detail. The Transformers from the film are a jumbled mess with no style or pleasing aesthetic IMO.
