Just as long as it's not heavy and big. I love my X-Box, but damn if that console isn't insanely huge and heavy. The Dreamcast was also surprisingly heavy for it's size. Fortunately, I came into the Playstation and Playstation 2 consoles near the end of their runs, so I got a PS One and PS2 Slim. Small, light and easy to move or store

Almost 100% agree, but I'll reserve judgement on the games until I actually play one. I'll also be watching for that killer app, if it shows up.

Good topic. Hasn't been something like this in a long while. My list changes from time to time, but in rough order it's would look something similar to this: 1) Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Macross DYRL?, Macross Plus 2) Cowboy Bebop, Cowboy Bebop Knockin' On Heaven's Door 3) Miyazaki movies, Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke 4) Ghost in the Shell, Ghost in the Shell Innocence, Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex 5) Akira 6) Patlabor Movie One, Patlabor Movie Two 7) Vampire Hunter D, Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust Grave of the Fireflies 9) Mobile Suit Gundam 0080 War in the Pocket 10) Jin-Roh The Wolf Brigade

I agree with Nied's evaluation. It seems to make the most sense given the context.

That is some fine work. The synching of images with both the rythmn of the audio track and the lyrical content is quite good. The dialogue was funny to hear coming out of the animated characters.

*cut and paste* From the immature minds behind Smash My iPod and Smash My X-Box comes the next great website... http://www.smashmyps3.com/ LOL :) I'd pay good money to be there in person to see the look on their faces

A positive/negative opinion to a given piece of entertainment is not so easily understood, even by the person forming the opinion themselves. If one can enjoy all Macross without a problem, then good for them. For the rest of us, surrendering our discriminating tastes would be far worse and so we pick and choose what we like. Besides, ultimately we are consumers and we are owed something when we pay money for it. That's pretty much the whole point.

To categorize the Macross 7 music as anything BUT bubblegum pop music is to be in denial. The categorization is accurate and made without any value judegment either for or against the music. Any negative connotation associated with the term "bubblegum pop" is incidental and secondary to the point. Macross 7 was sold largely on the attraction of it's extremely poppy, catchy music. But like all such like music, it has a very short shelf life and finds little success post-craze (again, apt comparisons to The Spice Girls is an appropriate analogy). It also has nothing to do with my personal preferences for music, though the defensive, knee-jerk attack was amusing.

Craig is a good actor, so I'm thankful of that at least. I have my fears for the future of Bond, but I do like most of the developments I've read about Casino Royale. It's most definitely time for a reinvention of the character.

That sounds great. The technical side of Macross has always been lacking representation on the internet and it'd be great to see a section like the one you described. I hope to see more in the future.

It's good to see at least some small work is being done, but the sections need some major reworking to bring them up to the level seen elsewhere on MAHQ. If the demands of MAHQ mean the Macross and Patlabor sections are defacto public domain, that's a policy based on priority. But like I've said, that policy does nothing to invalidate the criticism, however poorly those criticisms may be articulated. I wasn't aware that Macross' popularity was the reason for the lack of work on MAHQ, though I understand the difference in profile between it and Gundam or EVA. However, the Gundam anime's as old as the Macross shows are being revised and updated constantly, so I don't see the parallel there. Sounds like things have moved on and very little time will be invested in the Macross sections, both out of necessity and personal preference. All understandable and reasonable, but again, that just invites the harsh words of those fans still interested and does nothing to address the issue.

Kinda cheesy, but interesting nonetheless. The opening scenes (spaceship crash, camera tilt down the smoke trail, aircraft lift off, forward establishing shot of squadron, etc) are all lifted from Macross Zero.

I think there's at least one example of Battroid flight in almost every Macross show. Max flew his Valkyrie in battroid mode fighting Milia within the atmosphere in SDF Macross. There are several examples of atmospheric battroid flight in Macross Zero, typically Roy and Ivanov. In Macross Plus, both the YF-19 and YF-21 meet in the air and hover in battroid mode. With the insane amount of power and thrust available to the Valkyries, hovering in any mode shouldn't be a concern. The durations given in the official literature don't sound realistic for the Valkyries nor representative of the anime.

The crotch shot was by far the most entertaining portion of that video Damn, that was annoying to watch. The guy piloting the "Valkyrie" was getting his butt kicked the entire time and took hit after hit. Finally at the end, he get's a shot in and wins the battle. Very poor.

This is a go nowhere arguement kamikaze_kamujin. It's been debated and fought over for years. Let the few for Macross 7 rationalize however they can to give credence to the show. Even Cowboy Bebop, all but ignored in Japan, was made into a feature film and manga. M7 was a moderate success owed largely to the bubblegum pop music popular at the time and is fashionably forgotten (much like the Spice Girls). SDF Macross, DYRL? and Macross Plus are the Macross productions that are remembered in Japan, when the franchise is recalled at all (a rarity, since Macross has very little presence on the radar of pop culture in Japan). The modern toys, models, and merchandise like video games are either all SDF Macross, DYRL?, Plus, or Macross Zero and have been this way for years. Like I said, Macross fans have greater worries for the future of the Macross franchise than rehashing of Macross II or Macross 7.

I agree it's hard to objectively consider intentionally harsh complaints, but that doesn't make the complaints baseless. It's acknowledged that MAHQ has an ongoing problem, yet priorities dictate the situation won't improve. MAHQ hasn't updated the Macross Mecha section for more than two years; it's been all but abandoned. The Patlabor section hasn't been touched in over a year either. If the unspoken reality is to let sections like Macross, Patlabor, and others slide, that inaction invites the very criticism that occurs repeatedly. I understand your situation and sympathize, but I have to say responsibility for the MAHQ website does not lie with the critics. I guess it really comes down the example being set; if the MAHQ doesn't care about Macross/Patlabor, why should anyone else? I hope I've at least provided something worth thinking about. I also hope grebo guru submits his work as well.
-
There's no need to get bent out of shape. The lagging quality of the Macross, Patlabor, and other non-gundam sections of MAHQ is hardly news and has been so for years. No one here is bashing the website; an honest opinion of what MAHQ needs is valid criticism (and your response proves the point). I was the one who suggested to grebo guru in another thread that he should submit some of his scans to your website and hoped they would be welcome. If you want something constructive done, then start there.

Macross is a marginal franchise at best. With the downright poor quality of the latest offering - Macross Zero - the fanbase has much bigger concerns than worrying about a rehash production of Macross 7. Besides, Kawamori won't do anything Macross unless its different from what's been made so far. Ergo, we'll never again see another Macross 7 nor Macross Zero. Unfortunately, this little rule of Kawamori's also includes the good stuff, so we'll never get another SDF Macross, DYRL? or Macross Plus either.

I'd have a hard time choosing which show I dislike more. I find both Macross 2 and Macross 7 of such poor quality that beyond that, it's really pointless to spend time considering the subject further. I am generally the type of fan that sticks to canon materials in any franchise. I don't really care for extended official materials and other spin-off productions (again, typically because of poor quality). So in the case of these two productions, I'd probably give more credence to Macross 7 as "canon" Macross than I would Macross 2. But like I say, that's granting Macross 7 very little, if anything. Examining the two based solely on the story, I'm of the opinion that Macross 2 is more of a genuine Macross story than Macross 7 ever will be. I may find Macross 2 mediocre at best, but it does stay true to Macross lore (up to that point), the Macross setting and the established fundamentals of Macross much more than M7. Take that for what it's worth.

Can you actually play this import game on a domestic PS2 from North America?
-
The middle one is cool. The third one is a little overdesigned IMO. I know Macross has some designs that look similar (mostly the Macross 7 versions), but that's one of the reasons I don't like em

I understand the reason behind a newbie thread, but I just want you to know that I would never expect you or any newb to read through that hideous monstrousity.
