Gibson Sticks Himself In His Apocalypto Trailer
Mr March replied to Duke Togo's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
LOL Thanks and feel free to donate -
With this second pressing of the Animeigo set, you can't go wrong at that price. It also has better cover art than the first Animeigo pressing
-
LOL You're a good sport Excillon.
-
Well then, given this new information, I'd have to say go with the Animeigo set. The reissue is cheap and the audio is far superior apparently. Learn something new everyday
-
Well, I wouldn't necessarily expect the ADV release to be flawless. But from the description being given to the ADV original japanese track, I'm being led to beleive it's quite horrible here. I'd like to know for certain.
-
I totally agree
-
If this is true, it's the first I've heard of it. Obviously, my opinion would shift largely in favor of the Animeigo set if this is truly the case. The original japanese audio on the Animeigo set is brilliant. I had assumed ADV would use the same version for it's release.

It appears to be more like a half-drum. The top piece, which I'm assuming is the ammunition cartridge, appears to be a half-cylinder. It's a bit hard to see details given the scan. Any chances we could get a better scan? Perhaps a hi-res png or tiff file? I have to try

Very thorough review, as always. Thanks Graham!

Love Triangles Over Done In Macross?
Mr March replied to SpacyAce2012's topic in Movies and TV Series
And yet these same Macross fans are often found belittling devout Gundam fans for the same behaviour, fans who swallow every new Gundam show they're fed. Personally, I have no problem critiquing whatever, whenever, on a case by case basis. I can't pretend to like every lousy sequel with a fricking brand name attached just because the original was good. But I suppose even The Phantom Menace, Voyager and Alien 3 has their staunch defenders -
Love Triangles Over Done In Macross?
Mr March replied to SpacyAce2012's topic in Movies and TV Series
Very insightful. I would tend to agree on your main points. Macross Plus was a welcome change of venue, a reimagining in many ways of the Macross universe while still dealing with the universal themes that make the franchise what it is. Rather than another grand space opera, the OVA was a personal story and a much narrower variable fighter competition. Yet as you mentioned, all the elements of the Macross from the love triangle and burdened characters, to the mecha and music where all there as parts serving the whole. I don't think that returning to the roots of the real robot genre necessitates revisiting old themes and stories. In some small ways, Macross Plus was actually more a real robot show than the original SDF Macross, leaving (for the most part) aside massive space wars, aliens and ideological evolutions. But again, themes are something that translate well, regardless of setting and character. An interesting story done Macross style is worth doing. Personally, I like Kawamori as a creator. Macross and Escaflowne were fantastic shows IMO, well written and relatable to me even as a much older fan outside the target audience. But he's not necessarily the best Macross director. The Macross franchise could do with a much more grounded and stylistic vision, similar to what Wantanabe achieved with his influence in Macross Plus. Nothing is wrong with taking Macross in different directions. Creativity is bred from the unexpected and untested. I think it's good to speculate on possible hopeful incarnations of Macross and you won't be called a heretic by me for thoughtful analysis of one of my beloved anime franchises -
Just had a thought; you don't need any lineart reference do you? Based on your work so far, the thing looks dead on which means you've probably already got some good reference pictures. But I just came into a bunch of high resolution line art, so I thought I'd ask if you need it.

Yeah, but that's just what makes AP fun. It's so casual and loose. Nothing there is meant to be taken seriously, so the topics are all silly and vapid. I agree that sometimes it can feel like wasted space, but it's just a place to relax and post off-the-wall stuff

I held off even trying to re-register. It's clear the forums aren't working properly and I don't want to add confusion to the matter in case the forums do come back. I'll end up losing my username or something and have to come back under a different title. That's annoying.
-
Much the same. Says my username and password are invalid. I can see a very old version of the forums. Definitely since before I arrived. Topics from 2004 and I can't view very many of them. Hope all is well.

Cool. The irradiated fish is a nice touch

Don't think about what you can't do. Concentrate on what you can. It's possible the thief is from out of the country and was passing through robbing people on his way overseas. Anything is possible. But it's unlikely. It's also doubtful that the thief is going to spend a hundred dollars in fuel travelling up and down the coast to sell a stolen toy he might not get for even that much. Thieves are looking for the fast and easy way to make a buck. If they wanted to work hard like the rest of us, they wouldn't be stealing now would they? If he's going to turn it into cash, it's likely your thief will dump the stuff as closeby and as fast as possible. Send out a fax/email to every hobby shop you know telling them to be on the lookout for stolen merchandise. Provide easy to see pictures. Keep an eye on any ebay/amazon auctions for 1/48 yammies that pop up suddenly in your state. It's not like there's a lot of them. Go shopping at the bootleg stores and back alley general markets, peruse used stores and thrift markets. Sure, the thief could live on the other side of the city or out of town, but what if he lives within 10-50 blocks of your house? It's a chance. I had a friend once who found his stolen stuff at a pawn shop on the same side of his city, tracked the guy's name and gave it to the police. Caught like rats in a hole, as Britai would say.
-
Assuming the guy doesn't keep it (it's extremely unlikely he's a fan, although...read below), it's pretty obvious where he'll try to sell it. A hobby shop, bootleg sellers, or online like ebay. It's not like there's a large market for Yamato 1/48 toys. The theif's options to offload the merchandise are rather limited. If you keep your eyes open, watch ebay/amazon market place and keep in touch with the local hobby/variety stores, you may even help the local police nab this guy. Most small time crooks are pretty stupid and you might be surprised what you can do to catch him! Statistics say that a large chunk of robberies are committed by people that the victim knows. Now, don't take that to mean friends, but someone who knows you through a common friend but you don't necessarily hang around with him. A lot of room theft and vehicle theft they say takes place when a fellow live-in invites his/her friends over or even to come by for brief periods of time. They snatch and no one is any the wiser.

Anyone Else Have Problems With Shipping Carriers?
Mr March replied to DeathHammer's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'd agree with that from a delivery end, but that's all. Indeed, a bad driver rep can mess up everything, like you say. But I have a real problem with several customer services that are found lacking at a given courier provider. Like my old post in this thread about DHL. Even having a good customer rep on the phone or in the driver's seat does little to improve my situation documented in my old post. DHL just has a lousy system overall and need's to pull it's socks up big time. -
This is scary. I'm going to agree with Azrael and Roy...at the same time! Armaggeddon is nigh! The Animeigo set was a treasure when first released because it was fully sound/video remastered and had the best subtitles. And it was, finally, a proper North American release of the original SDF Macross. Now, the series is seeing release from ADV in a cost effective format that takes all the work done from the Animeigo release, adds a new dub (regardless of lacking quality IMO) and includes more special features. Basically, the Animeigo set was a one time, produced-to-cash-in-on-demand-release. Compared to the ADV set, it's not worth anyone's time unless you can find it cheap. The ADV set will also be the release that will be transferred to the next video format. It's sad but true. The Animeigo release is second rate now

I'd love a Gundam 0080 book like that. Damn, I wonder if it exists? Must have!

Don't be coy. You know you love it when members try to ingratiate themselves on you Besides, I blame you for the state of this thread anyway
