Patlabor 2 The Movie Limited Collector's Edition
Mr March replied to Penguin's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'll take Blade Runner over Pitch Black or AVP. I'll take Akira over Doom or War of the Worlds. And I'll take Patlabor 2 over the likes of Neon Genesis Evangelion any day. I prefer more substantial stuff at the cost of action. -
You mean, why does his suit change color in the movie? Or why does his suit change color in the comics? In the film, I have no idea in which way they will choose to handle the suit, but it'll more than likely be quite different from the comic book story. And thank gawd, since the continuity of the suit in the comics is a nightmare! In the comic books, the history of the suit goes all the way back to a big cross-over story in the 80's called Secret Wars. Spider-man is on some other planet battling super villians and picks up this new "costume" to replace his battle worn original. Upon returning to Earth, Parker finds out the costume is actually a living creature, a symbiote. A bunch of stuff happens after that, but eventually the costume leaves Parker, finds Eddie Brock, and thus Venom is born.

Nice poster. Just rewatched the trailer. I think I agree with those who said it's not going to be a large number of villains in the movie. Some of them might not even take a very big role if at all. Perhaps Sandman only appears in a few scenes. Perhaps Spider-man defeats him during a bank robbery at the beginning, only to escape from prison with Hobgoblin's (no doubt Harry Osborn played by James Franco) help later in the film. There's just bits a pieces of Hobgoblin in the trailer. Venom doesn't even seem to appear. It's just the alien costume and Eddie Brock (played by Topher Grace) shows in a few frames. He might become Venom only at the end of the movie, once Parker removes the alien costume. Anyway, lots of questions, but the trailer looks great. *edited cause I finally saw some hobby in there *

Patlabor 2 The Movie Limited Collector's Edition

Damn, I had no idea the new DVD edition of the second film was coming out so soon. I adored the first re-release, so I'm definitely checking this fella out. -
If You Had A Say, What Mecha Franchise Would
Mr March replied to GobotFool's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'd like Yamato to produce better molds of the YF-19, YF-21, VF-11 and other such mecha before they go off and do other franchises. If I had to pick something non-Macross, it'd be Patlabor first. -
Well said.

As much as it may alarm some people, there are those of us among the ranks here that actually respect what some of MacrossWorld has to say. Astonishing I'm sure I'm not going to get into a discussion over this again, nor am I advocating change for MW. But I will say that the people here at MW are the reason I've stuck around. Finding a good forum is tough work. Yes, literally hundreds of thousands of them exist, but that abundance of choice makes the job more difficult, not less so. If people want to talk about more stuff here, I say cut them a little slack. It just means they like the place.

Is that why all the critics are upset? You've got to be kidding me! Did they think "Fellowship of the Ring" ended the story with two hobbits in the mountains? If that's all the bashing is about with DMC, I think I'm going to enjoy it. I'm patient enough to appreciate a middle act in a film trilogy. Gawd knows we've seen enough of them.
-
I'm aware it's the middle act and there's already a third film on the way, so I don't mind. Just as long as it's good

Oh please...

"Obviously, I'm suffocating in despair" Her delivery is priceless. I can't wait for another episode

I think I'll see it this soon, during the week so it's a little less crowded. I just moved and my friend is away for the week, so I've got no one to see it with. Ordinarily, I'd see a film like this opening day (possibly even the midnight showing). I hope it's as good as the first, which I really liked, flaws and all.
-
LOL! I love that!
-
It's a comedy performance starring Crista Flanagan of MadTv fame. "Hope Is Emo" is a podcast made by Beatbox Giant Productions, the same people who created "Ask A Ninja." The funny thing is the largely improvised nature of the show makes it feel more real and unlike the over-the-top antics in Ask A Ninja, this leads to a sense of reality for Hope. Explains why you may have been uncertain at first

Yeah, I don't know what the heck Zidane was thinking. A real shame.

And the World Cup 2006 goes to Italy! What a hard fought game, but fantastic. Great game!
-
France vs. Italy final is going so well. I think Italy is totally going to take this. They're looking so good right now.

Well, I finally had the chance to see this film for free. My friend purchased the DVD of Ultraviolet never having watched it. We watched it a couple days ago and my god was it terrible. Milla Jovovich looked amazing in this film, but everything else from the story, to the acting, to the special effects was bad, worse, and atrocious. Avoid this one at all costs. Don't spend a dime.

That's not a bad estimate, but I'd be hesitant to state any hard figures based on the stop-and-go travel of the Macross under constant attack from the Zentradi. The need for maneuvers when engaged and suffering course corrections constantly due to enemy movements would drastically affect the calculation of basic time vs. distance figures. As I recall, many years ago a Macross fan online performed several calculations of capital ship speeds in Macross based on distances quoted in the series during combat. The fan analyzed the Booby Trap episode (in which we were given a 280,000 kilometer distance) when the Macross first fires on the advance Zentradi ships, estimating detection range and travel time across a few light seconds. The fan also analyzed the episode in which Vrlitwhai's command ship enters detection range of the Macross and the time taken by the Zentradi ship to cruise to within a few thousand meters of the Macross. The end figures sat somewhere around 0.1 to 0.2 the speed of light and the acceleration/deceleration figures where in the low hundreds to kilo g's.

Yeah, guess that's that. That was a lousy finish for Portugal. They were doing so well, then back to back losses. Damn. Hope they do well next World Cup.
-
No sooner do I speak...Portugal goal! Yahoo!
-
Damn, Portugal is getting worked by Germany. I really like both teams, but I was hoping Portugal would put on a stellar performance against the Germans. But they are hurting and that own-goal was just so tragic. Germany is just looking unstoppable right now. Their dynamic and fluid, shuffling around the field with speed and skill. An amazing performance.

It looks quite interesting. I really like the mecha design and the style of character animation has a nice grounded motif. This might be something to watch for in the coming months. Thanks for the post.

Keanu Reeves NEW movie. A Scanner Darkly.
Mr March replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'll eventually give the film a shot, though it may go on my spreadsheet for DVD rental rather than a theatrical veiwing. Dick himself did deal with drugs in his books, but it's a hard arguement to make that he was decidedly "anti-drugs." Most often the drugs angle in his work was simply a means to an end; the end most often being character self-realization that reality was false or an illusion. Dick was the literary precursor to reality-bending fiction, cyberpunk, and films like The Matrix. Like all of us, Dick was a contradiction. At various points in his life he used drugs, like amphetamines. He also experienced visions, both sober and under the influence of drugs many times in his life. He suffered from paranoia and was sometimes under the impression government agencies were out to get him. He was also convinced that he was in contact with a divine consciousness which he named VALIS. To say Dick was disturbed and unadjusted is probably glossing over his state of mind, but his mental state did create some of the most engaging science fiction literature of this past century. -

From what I've heard by the few critics I really respect, the film is visually arresting, but a mess in every other category. As a sci-fi fan I adore Philip K. Dick's work, but Linklater is really hit and miss with me. Waking Life was just one long philosophical wank and if "Scanner" is done in such a similar way, it will miss the meat of Dick's book. Still, like one of the few critics I respect said; "I'm tempted to still recommend it (A Scanner Darkly), since I'd rather see an intriguing failure than a generically adequate movie... The question is, what do YOU prefer?" I may put that question to the test. But I've got other priorities for now.
