Finally watched the first season. Never read the books, but I am liking the series, and I'm anxious to see the next.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, in theaters summer 2023
Thom replied to Duke Togo's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It took two hours to get that point, but I was just enjoying the ride. Ultimately, I thought it was fine as is. It did segue pretty quick away from that, but it was nearing the end anyway and there is only so much you can stuff in at the wire.- 355 replies

Half way through Silo on AppleTV and so far this is a real good show. Almost like a more refined, adult version of City of Ember. "In a ruined and toxic future, thousands live in a giant silo deep underground. After its sheriff breaks a cardinal rule and residents die mysteriously, engineer Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) starts to uncover shocking secrets and the truth about the silo."

Saw it. Liked it! It's fun, has good action and good characters and interactions. In fact, I hardly noticed the time (and thankfully my bladder didn't pressure me too much!) Is it a perfect movie? No, but waiting for that perfect movie to come along means you miss out on a lot of good entertainment. For me, Indy was in good (aged) form. Dealing with issues? Yes, as that is what people do and how we handle those issues, i.e. drama, is just as important as story and delivery. The action was nice and kept things moving and was enjoyable to watch. De-aged Indy was really well done. There were a few moments where the movie magic slipped, but those were blink and you miss it moments. I liked the overall plot of a Stupid Nazi trying to reclaim their sick glory and basically pancaking into the ground because of it. He had a better death scene than Spalko! My only Con would be... ...but that's my only real gripe. I thought the ending was nice and hopeful. It didn't need to be spectacular, it only had to be satisfying, and this was, IMO. This is one I would go see again in the theater.- 355 replies

One foot in the intake and up you go!

I like it. Looks like a refined, tailless YF-23.

I hope you can get them! The Belgariod is from David Eddings and is high fantasy whereas Mutineer's Moon is hard sci-fi. Both very enjoyable series with great characters, interactions and battles.

I really liked the first movie, which of course is only a specific take on the books (which I have not read) so I'm interested to see what they do with it. And for any Netflix Execs, could I interest you in the Belgariad or David Weber's Mutineer's Moon..?

Imagine that flying with a number of autonomous wingmen.

Actually, the Toby Maguire ones are still my favorite live action Spiderman movies. That's not to say he would have been a fit for Hikar- (ahum) Rick Hunter.

First half of Witcher Season 3 is out. I was going to watch one episode, but ending up binging to the mid-finale. It was good, but as good as season three. Something felt off, whether that be in directing style or trying to be too humorous with the villains, which never really works out unless you're Alan Rickman in Robin Hood. It did get better near the end (of the first half) and I hope that energy continues for the rest. For Cavil's swan song as Geralt, I'm hoping for a great send off!

Definitely agree that Q should have been third season rather than second. As to villains, I don't mind if they trade them off, AFAIC. Having only on crew (cast) dealing primary with one enemy seems rather restrictive in story telling. They can trade trade off enemies seeing as they are a shared universe and then have fuller stories and interactions. They don't feel so encapsulated that way.

Yeah, everything is molded in white except for the gromits - and an extra chest piece in bright orange...

Oh, I know. I watched the series. And yes, Janeway (young and old) did a lot to damage the Borg. And yes, Sisko dealt with the Founders and the Dominion war, I just don't see that as 'possessive,' in that no one else can battle them for plot. Picard dealt with the Borg first and then Janeway did, which is fitting seeing as she was in their neck of the galaxy, but that didn't mean that Voyager was poaching another's enemy for themselves. It's all a shared universe after all, with the flip-side being, if I recall correctly, during DS9's Dominion War, there were questions as to where was the Enterprise during the whole thing? So, I don't see any problem with STP using them, in that they are enemies of the Federation as a whole, except for the fact that they were bait-n-switch bag guys - whereas the Changelings were already enough.

Other than not having enough Tron, I did like Legacy and hope this will be a good edition to the series.

I never felt that Picard was cleaning up anyone else's mess. He was the first to face the Borg and really had the closest association with the Queen - at least until she turned her eyes on Data.If you think about it. other than Q there were really no other big bads for Picard, as they took care of both in Season 2. Well, except for Q and his inconvenient way of understanding death better than us corporeal flesh bags. In this, I felt the Changeling threat was big enough.

Really agree about point 2. I think they were doing really well with the Changeling plot and putting the Borg in only muddled it up at the end. Still enjoyable, but just once again with too many villains.

If this April 1st!?!? Please don't be April 1st!! That is fecking awesome! Even if all they do is give us a third season to close it out, that is great news.
-
Shame it's not doing so well. It's a good movie. Although, if this is mostly accurate, I think I would have liked this a lot better! I hope Gunn creates a universe better than the old one, because that looked damn promising!
