  2. Very nice, where was this? Langley? FF tailsign would indicate that, but suspect FF tailsign fly all over the place. Interesting, the canopy is transparent, the last time I saw -22 was in Honolulu, it had a gold cockpit.
  3. Yeah, the Monster eats putty like you wouldn’t believe.
  4. It's a very obscure line that was created in the 80's. You have to be a collector's collector to even know where they're from. Somewhere in the dark recesses of the hobby these lines exist. Prehistoric, primal. Definitely worth checking out. The reality is that the line actually fetishizes the SS a bit. Very dark in that way. And it belongs in the dungeon with other like-minded lines (mainly thinking porny anime here). I was told by some guys selling this that older Japanese men are really into the line, and that makes perfect sense. There may be a bit of misty-eyed romance for an old and neglected past (they were allies after all). Be that as it may, the line is held in high regard by collectors, and when they are produced, only the best materials are used. These models are no exception.
  5. It's one of those details that I never paid much attention to, because the control art happens to have the main rotor directly over the horizontal stabs. Then I was like, "yeah, but that's a detail that even most of the 3Ps get wrong." But I'm curious, because I have a few 3P Springers. So I grab Open & Play's Big Spring, put him in chopper mode, and no, he's got little ones. MMC Saltus? Small and a bit triangular, but present. Toyworld Spanner? He's got the biggest of the three (similar proportionally to the G1 toy). I started googling the ones I don't have. Unique Toys Allen? Big ones, and green like the animation. Fans Toys Apache? Smaller than Allen's, but bigger than Saltus or Big Spring. XTB Virtus? Gray, but the most cartoon-accurate size and shape. So now I'm wondering how Hasbro not only got away with the missing stabs, but how they gaslighted me into thinking that nobody else else gave their Springer stabs when they everyone but Hasbro included them. Side note, somehow, while researching this topic, I wound up ordering copies of Apache and Virtus, despite owning Saltus, Big Spring, and Spanner already. Think I might hunt for Allen, too, and then do a "which Springer is the definitive one" sort of review in the 3P thread.
  6. LOL. Ever since they split the thread I've been a little lost trying to "thread" my way through this online maze. But, done.
  7. I've been on a tear with these lately. Nitto Machinen Krieger. I actually put one of these models together when I was young and I've had a fascination with the Krieger line ever since. Some kind of WWII fetish I think. Anyway, very cool line that combines military, WWII and even a little steam punk aesthetic. I'm already on my way to collecting as many of these as I can. Never thought of myself as a model collector, but here you have it.
  8. Nice purchase @MacrossMania. It should be posted at the other thread. https://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/topic/51474-your-most-recent-general-toy-purchase-2024-edition/page/4/#comments

  10. @Perxion excellent work! I like that it scales perfectly with Sentinel's and get even more play value when paired with their pilot figures & bikes.
  11. Agree with the VF-31A. But that's the only one for me, and it's because the livery is deliberately evocative of military-style jets. So the matte finish makes sense. In fact I think it's the only finish that makes sense when you're going for F-15-style camo. But the others need to be glossy for me. They're toys after all. They need to be dressed to impress.
  12. It made me immediately think “TV vs. Movie.” I think DYRL’s more sophisticated animation and attention to detail made the Battroids look taller and slimmer, which is what I see in Hasegawa model. More realistic looking, if you will. The Plamax definitely has the feel of the SDFM artwork. I like them both, and I plan to add a few Plamax models to my collection, but the Hasegawa model just looks more believable to me.
  13. Saw the Transformers 40th Anniversary showing of the first four eps of the G1 toon today. A number of OG voice actors and a couple stand-in VA's performed the majority of the first ep's lines "live" - the timing was a little off here and there, but it was still pretty cool, and they did a split screen format so you can see the VA's doing the lines along with the show. Welker and Cullen have definitely maintained well. I was a little bummed that Corey Burton wasn't part of the table read; he voiced Spike and Shockwave, and Gregg Berger, bless his soul, sounds nothing like him in either voice, or Casey Kasem for that matter. Kasem had such a recognizable voice from doing radio, but I'm always amazed at how well he was able to change his voice for the various characters he performed. I was pleased to see a memorial to all the OG TF VA's who've passed on at the end of the presentation. I was hoping for some sort of dedication or mention; it's a blink-and-you'll miss-it moment, but at least it's there. Hmm, honestly, I prefer the tires visible in car mode even if it conflicts with the animation. I'd still rather they rotated 180 with tire on one side and the tail rotor housings on the other. I was going to mention the incongruity of his front wheels having green rims whilst the back ones are grey, but it makes sense in the context of the animation, especially since they didn't bother retooling him with his rotor housings. Both Siege and SS86 are also missing the intake/exhaust details on his shoulders under the yellow and green wheel fairings. They're included on the SS86 box art, though. Subsequent to the arm design and transformation schema, the heli modes of both Siege and SS86 versions lack their wing engines and fail to cover the front tires. I just noticed, too, that Neither version has the large horizontal stabilizers in heli mode. Even the G1 toy had small horizontal stabs. I could keep nitpicking, but suffice it to say, while I think the Siege and SS86 Springers are good figs on their own merits, the Studio Series version still falls a little short of movie accuracy despite the improved shoulders. To really approach any semblance of screen accuracy, SS86 Springer should have been a whole new mold. Maybe someday.

    1/55's revisited

@Spark-O-Matic wow, I would be pretty enraged about that whole situation. How much did CAS charge you to damage and swap parts between your various Jetfires and then glue them into defective cases? I’m sure it wasn’t cheap. These groups may know about the intricacies of 90s Playmates TMNT toys but there’s no way they will have expertise in all the nuances of obscure Jetfire variants. Let alone what accessories and inserts an 80’s Strike Valk should come with. It’s pretty ridiculous for them to even take something like that to grade. Quite the racket.
  15. BTAS Batmobile blue to black.
  16. Nice, I look forward to moving into the larger 1/72 scale. I think all the Hasegawa kits I have on order are the same scale. It will be nice to see them all together. I can’t wait to dig in. However my model time is rather limited in my life; having a fam and 6 year old but many late nights will see it through. Now I'm really intrigued about that monster kit…I guess it’s time to invest in some putty(s)
  17. I'm not sure what I expected, but Master File predictably offered an explanation of the VF-1's Block 1-5 hand design and it's just a rounded metal housing around the same single axis articulations that the square-edged hand has.
  18. The Hasegawa Queadluun Rau is far easier than the Imai kit. Better fitting for sure. Beware, the Monster is a beast that’s not for the faint of heart. Parts have odd fits and some parts feel like they don’t match up. It’s a real monster of a build for such a small scale kit
  19. Thanks so much. I was nervous sharing it since there are so many amazing builds on this forum. The path to completion was a disaster but a good one. Haha. I’m a sucker for a challenge and will be doing more 80’s kits down the road. “Looking at you Monster” I just ordered the big sister kit along with a preorder for the Max version even though I think they are identical. lol I imagine the Hasegawa kits are more user friendly?
  20. Never been this close to a -22, never seen one on static display.
