Just saw it too....I think I missed a few minutes, but seems that it picks up days from the last movie? Anyways. I enjoyed it....lots of action and some additional world-building elements.... But....how do the "whale people" get their chains and rings on? I think one even had some banner attached to it....lol

I can see being upset about exorbitant handling fees, but if the others issues are shipping and tariffs then there's not much they can do about that.,

General Sci-fi designs across various media
M'Kyuun replied to M'Kyuun's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Despite having been to England a number of times, including having lived there for four months (stayed at least a couple weeks at the Bell Inn in Thetford- never saw any ghosts though), I remain largely ignorant to a great deal of British media, especially comics. I've never really been into comic books, even American ones, so I'm woefully out of the loop. Of course, Judge Dredd has seen a couple retellings via Hollywood, for better or worse, and stuff like the Thunderbirds and Space 1999, as well as the wildly popular and long running Dr. Who series have been airing on American tvs for decades, not to mention toys thereof. I had to employ some Google-fu to look up the respective artists you mentioned, and I'm sure what popped up only scratches the surface of each artist's body of work. I was surprised to learn that there was a PS4 game based on Collin Wilson's Rogue Trooper called, appropriately enough, Rogue Trooper Redux. Duncan Jones helmed an animated film starring the likes of Hayley Atwell, Sean Bean, Asa Butterfield, and Aneurin Barnard as the eponymous Rogue Trooper. It was intended for release in summer 2025, but has been delayed, date to be determined. Anyway, thanks for sharing these memories of early British sci-fi. I was moved to look up other UK based artists in sci-fi and discovered Peter Elson, whose work is exemplary and definitely merits mention and a look. I never heard his name before, but I'm wowed looking through his various works. This Is Cool has a nice brief gallery as well, and serendipitously turned out to be an awesome resource for myriad international artists doing sci-fi and fantasy art. Jim Burns is a multi-Hugo-award winning sci-fi and fantasy artist, and Chris Moore, who sadly passed in Feb 2025, was an eclectic artist across themes and styles. Many of his works graced book covers, his claim to fame, if you will. I think I'll also mention the late H.R. Giger here, a Swiss artist best known for creating the Alien Xenomorph, as well as other designs across the Alien franchise. Beyond that, Giger had an incredible and unique talent for creating otherworldly biomechanical creatures, objects, and landscapes, often with sexual overtones. He also created the look of the alien leads in Species and Species II. For creating one of the most notable of sci-fi movie monsters, still highly relevant today, and for his signature style, Giger merits a significant mention. -

I appreciate all the Math This DOES all assume its a smoke plume from the actual impact, and I still think its the trail of the Macross as it flew overhead. This could also have been the shake that Shin felt and that woke him up; its the shockwave, not the impact of the ship. So he feels the shockwave, goes outside and see's the glow on the western horizon. That does NOT explain away what you mentioned about the distance of seeing the glow. I hadn't even THOUGHT of the curvature problem. In Macross we see the boom, and it's quite large, but it wouldn't have been a sustained and long lasting light. If they are watching a sustained glowing light from the impact fires from the ship, they MUST be close enough to view that based on the EC. As you say, id the hill they are on is 1000m (Which honestly seems a bit high. The highest natural point in Sydney from the ocean is about 281 metres, and that matches Mt Davidson in San Francisco (The highest point in the city according to google). Views from the top of that look similar to the one's seen in the M0 image. Using the calculator above, that means to see something at Horizon level you would need to be around 60km (37ish miles) to see it. Now I think the fire would be fairly large, so let's generously double it and say 120km away. That's less than half the distance of Tasmania from the southern tip of Australia, a trip of just under 10 hours by boat. Sketchleys idea about a fictional location is starting to have more weight in my mind...

Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!
Seto Kaiba replied to Valkyrie Driver's topic in Movies and TV Series
The ones in Macross Plus, Macross 7, and Macross Dynamite 7 are broadly indicated to be the initial generation single-use type. By the time of Macross Frontier, the technology had improved to the point that modern (c.2059) fold boosters could perform multiple fold jumps and do so over longer distances. 4th Gen VFs had the concept of inserting a VF behind enemy lines using stealth and/or fold capability in order to strike enemy command centers, carry out hostage rescues, etc., as a part of a larger operation. Escaping via space fold is not mentioned. As with the 5th Gen YF-24 Evolution, use of a fold booster in direct combat is described as a way to maximize the element of surprise, and the VF's extraction from the combat area afterwards isn't mentioned. Presumably in such an operation, they would use stealth and their high flight performance to escape the enemy and then link up with friendly forces. Escape via space fold might be possible in later generations where reusable fold boosters exist, though leaving the booster behind would be quite risky. (There is some material to suggest mounting multiple fold boosters is possible. Macross Frontier shows this being done with the VF-171 and Master File shows the same with a VF-19.) -
Just myself, but I really have little interest in prequels. I may change my mind when I see what they do, but when I hear 'prequel' I usually start to tune-out.

They’ve had several spin off related interviews. Some having to do with the written stuff that I’ll probably never read, and animated thingy and at one time there was going to be one about the Ocho, but I think that her side story was something most people disliked and got shelved

Just got home from seeing Avatar. Its a feast for the eyes but definitely borrows much from the second movie and sets up a fourth film. If Cameron makes another Avatar it should be the last and wrap this up.

Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!
aurance replied to Valkyrie Driver's topic in Movies and TV Series
So, in footage most fighter sized fold boosters are depicted single use (fold, then eject). I think it’s been mentioned in other media that some of the most advanced fighters (gen 4+) should be able to fold in, decapitate enemy with missile strike, then fold out. How are they supposed to fold back out? Are those boosters *not* single use, but they’re just ejected due to circumstantial inconvenience? -

Looks great. So far I’m usually using lacquers since most of my kits have moving joints, how well do those particular paints you are using hold up on non static models
