CF18
It is just a material test shot that happen to dark grey on the legs and purple at other places. The leg armor pack will have extra thrusters on them.
Chronocidal
Those aren't the packs, that's an unpainted prototype using random colors.... I hope. Given Bandai's love of casting things in the wrong color, I hope they didn't make the entire lower leg dark, and then paint it white... mechaninac
The stand's display arm and attachment piece are huge honking unsightly monsters, but that Nightmate Plus looks oh so sweet... Edited April 27, 2012 by mechaninac
Chronocidal
Yeah.. I really can't stand any of the display stands these companies make for their stuff.. Why do they always have to be so ugly and huge? Haven't they ever seen anyone make a stand with a freaking post that goes in a hole? It's not that hard. But whatever. At least the valk looks awesome.
VF5SS
I think they just set it up on a spare VF-25 Renewal stand.

UN Spacy
Yeah, I think so too. Sucks that it isn't a New U.N. Spacy base. Oh well.
Graham
I had a dream last night that my VF-171EX arrived at the same time as the Yamato VF-17D. It was sweet unboxing them together. Graham

ron5864
What is the tail number on Alto's VF-171? His VF-25F is "007". I wonder if that will be different because it is not SMS assigned.
Renato
It seems there is a lack of a thigh swivel joint and outwards-movement hip articulation.

VF5SS
Base is different, I think this is what we will have. the fact that the mounting cradle doesn't match the figure is kinda suspect I'd think the final toy would have something that cupped the delicate underside a bit better
charger69
Ah you mean the nose/belly section! Yes, we need something that aligns better with the belly...
ultraman zoffy
Just wondering (and it's probably been asked or discussed among the myriad posts on this thread already), but will Bandai's run of this toy even be able to satisfy the number of pre-orders being taken? With all the "Hey, this place reopened their pre-orders!" jazz going on, seems like retailers are just putting new ones up on a whim...? Edited April 30, 2012 by ultraman zoffy
mechaninac
As long as there is no up-front money in the equation, if a retailer flakes out on their pre-order commitments either due to their over selling or supplier's inability to fill quotas, I won't be too distressed over it. Now, if the retailer takes payment first and then fails to deliver we've got problems.
Kurisama
OK, this is weird - went to check my HLJ open orders - and I get this; Items in Special Processing The following items are being specially processed by HobbyLink Japan staff. There is no need to contact us about this. If there are any questions about your order we will contact you directly. - DX Chogokin VF-171EX Nightmare Plus EX (Alto Saotome Custom) (Macross Frontier) - Variable Fighter Master File VF-0 Phoenix (Variable Fighter Master File) Does this mean to say that... no, it couldn't, could it?! VF5SS
The VF-0 is supposed to come out this month We haven't seen previews yet though so it will probably be like the 30th I check HLJ, the VF-171 is still not ready.
Kurisama
Yep, just checked now - open orders page has returned to normal. I too double checked the 171's release date!
