Face it: Some people do enjoy cosplay, for whatever given reason.

Face it: Some people don't, for obvious reasons.

But the fact remains that cosplay is a big part of Anime and Manga fandom, and it's be a shame not to let a thread about it exist here at MW. But then again, the threads seem to be multiplying.

Maybe the nice Mods could start up a Anime and Manga Cosplay thread in the OTHER ANIME AND SCI FI forum and then let that run it's course. Either through fan pictures, members own costumes, or that hot gal dressed as that one Cobra girl from G.I. Joe.

Just an idea.

What do YOU think?

Cosplay threads have the tendency to degenerate sooner or later. Not only do the bad materials outweigh the good, but the enticement to ridicule is far too strong to avoid. Sure there will be constructive critism, but you'd have to swift thru the muck.

I'm for ONE cosplay thread, but either it gets policed closely or the mods have to be extra lenient on the trash talk, kinda like the RT debate thread.

One last thing, you're looking a one thread that is going to be pic intensive (bandwidthwise).

We'll see what the other mods think of it.

From what I remember it ends up a being a cheap forum of live action anime porn. Finding girls in skimpy cosplay outfits I guess what fanboys are suppose to boys do. It also becomes a freak show as well with fat hairy men dressed in a skippy anime outfits.

The fights that occur if I remember correctly happens when someone post an a pic of girl and members start to commenting on what wrong with her looks. Then someone says they are her friend a we have fight. Then there's also those who keep trying to shock us with fat hairy asses.

yikes, guys, chill out...please not again! (I'm for the cosplay threads as well, as long as they are policed. maybe have a special cosplay thread mod or something)

Ppl here aren't mature enough to deal with cosplay, its as simple as that. Past cosplay threads always ended up bad with flames and all. Even if ppl try to maintain it clean... there is always going to be some smart ass to post a picture of Man-Faye and fat Kuja in a thong kissing Sephiroth.

I somewhat agree with Abombz. While most people here are mature enough to deal with it, there are a few people that drool like 16-yr olds at the hot girls while insulting the not-so-hot girls. That might be because there are some teenagers on the boards. :) I don't think posting men cosplay causes much of a problem.

Since there are active cosplay threads going on now, let me say that anyone caught insulting a member that posts their own cosplay pics will likely be banned. You can critique the costume in general, but absolutely under no circumstances can you critique the person otherwise.

There are other forums for cosplay... MWers can go there.

In that line of thinking.... perhaps we should get rid of the other anime and sci fi section, the mode section and the toy section. After all there are other places MWers can go to discuss that. <_<

Yeah, but we have that forum to create and build a sense of community. Hearing how much our members would like to bone some chick that wears a skanky outfit to a comic show doesn't do much for the sense of community.

Cosplay threads are falling victim to the same problem as we had a few months ago with Fan Art. Some members actually produce great things all the time; other members see it as an excuse to draw stick figures with tits.

Hey if the Mods want to police a Cosplay thread, Official or not, that is their cross to bear.

And with good reason. Hurling insults at a picture of Man-Faye is one thing, but attacking fellow board members is just infantile. Now, if Man-Faye happened to join MW we might have a problem, but let's cross that bridge when we come to it.

Here's part of the problem- Viewing cosplay is different for everyone. Some people just want to see hot chicks in little outfits. Others want to see what hard work and perseverence turn out as in an incredibly detailed and intricate costume. Whereas a LOT of people just want to see how foolish a lot of coplayers look when their costume just doesn't work out.

By the way, I think the Man-Faye was 1) Obviously a joke, and 2) One of the most hilarious things I've ever seen.

With the "pro-active" roll that all serious MWers have taken lately, policing a cosplay thread in order to deter trouble makers is as easy as clicking the REPORT THIS POST button.

The funniest thing? The funniest thing was Bsu and Vostok mistaking that guy for a girl in the cosplay thread we had a few months ago. remember?

Let's cross, shave, and burn that bridge down!!! Man-Faye must cease to be!!!

Ahhh, that was a good thread though... but someone had to lay a guilt trip on us...

The people donning those costumes HAVE to know that they'll be talked about, right? I mean cosplay and internet pictures go hand in hand. It's one thing if you go to a private costume party, but if you go to a convention, good or bad, you're going to end up somewhere in the web.

If you like looking at girls/boys in costumes:no problem.

If you want to look at the cool costumes and the work that went into them:no problem.

If you have a funny reaction (ie. Ieeee!! I'm blind!) or a critique:no problem.

If you have to maliciously insult or attack a person, then we have a problem.

Sorry guys but that was pretty funny.

Anyway, I like the idea of cosplay threads. I suppose part of it is due to the fact that I posted some of my pictures from Anime Expo. Despite the content of the pictures that I posted, I do appreciate cosplay on more than just a fanboy level. It's a big "if" to assume that people can be civil enough to live with a cosplay thread but it would be nice if they could.
