Macross Zero # 4 shipped today!

Infusion did a great and quick subbing of vol-3 the last time, compared to AOne. And they're members here at MacrossWorld as well.

too bad it's currently torrents-only for both infusion and aone Zero-fansubs.

I enjoyed both fansubs. Each had their own merits and flaws. I thought AnimeOne did a more professional looking job. I hope Infusion stays away from Robotech fonts and other cheesy looking fonts with their next release.

Damn, this episode sucked. The flying totem thing was very strange, and it has child porn for christs sake. I hope #5 is better, but at least the cliffhanger seemed good.

You do realize that the current western ideas of how old someone must be to be an adult are actually very recent in the scheme of things. Take a step back to Civil War era America and people were still getting married and having kids at 14.

The idea of an age when people magically become adults is entirely in our heads.

And please, don't even try to justify it by saying "people live longer now than they did back then!" Living longer has not retarded our ability to mature mentally or physically. Society, on the other hand, is determined to do just that.

Also, not all cultures are like minded with our ideals of what constitutes an adult, or at what age people should be engaged in such and such activities. It is very ethnocentric to believe otherwise.

Can somebody describe what happens in episode 4? (with a spoiler warning for those that don't want to know, of course).

If anyone does, I hope they post them in another thread, a thread specifically marked as containing spoilers.

What a weird episode.

Those looking for action, will find none here.

"That's not true. That's impossible."

-Luke Skywalker (from ESB)

I haven't seen it yet.......personally I'm gonna wait till the ANBU-ONE version is ready to go. When episode 3 came out I ended up downloading three different versions. I'm willing to wait but sure hurts not wanting to watch it RIGHT NOW. :(

Heh, same here Spacy. Not only did I download the first couple of episodes 2 or 3 times each, I never can remember which one I liked best.

So this time I'm gonna hold out for the subs.

While the first three episodes are technical marvels of animation, episode 4 is pure art. Even without subtitles, episodes 2 and three didn't grip me from beginning till end like this episode did. I'm very much looking forward to a fansub. From the amount of dialogue and the lack of action, it appears the story is in high gear this episode. Lots of revelations and explanations, with even more hinted at.

This episode is truly the most beautiful so far, I found no moment where anything less that superb stuck out in the visuals.

Now that I have the context, I also find DarkReaper's comment about 'child porn' has even less credibility.

Yeah, I gotta agree with that.

While the action I had been hoping for wasn't there, episode four was easily the most beautiful one yet.

The child porn thing, only if you're total religious nut, or someone so insecure of himself, you'd really even think about that. That and there's always the chance that you had no idea what the context was because the thing was unsubtitled and you don't speak Japanese. :D

Child porn.....huh? I'm sorry but I don't see what Darkreeper sees...

Visuals were great in this one. Love the nature detail. And finally, some character development and some story.

Now where's my DVD....I want those liner notes dammit...

Wow, this is my favorite episode so far! Even without being able to understand what was being said, the visuals painted such a vivid story that I didn't feel I was missing anything at all. Man, I'm really yearing for some kick-ass toys of all the M0 mechas now. I wish someone would get the ball rolling on that. I hope Nora makes it into the next set of gashapons too. B))

Fully agree. Besides Roy's little bit of having a cool "Roy Moment" this episode is all about character development and art in general (although the "artsy" yet budget saving, lets have them talk without moving their mouths scene did grate a little.)

As for child porn... <_< whatever

I liked the fleshing out of Roy's relationship, the background we got on how the Anti-UEG even knew about this island, and Shin and Sara's talk. Seems Kawamori is not going to turn back from the environmental path he's been traveling down as late. As for Sara, her little scolding of Shin about the modern world's fixation on "convenience," while at the same time suppressing the desire to experience it for herself is one of my high points for the episode.

All in all, I liked it. Too bad there's only one more left (unless you count Zero Zero, which I don't). I could really go for a post-Zero TV show, one that has it's last episode with Hikaru's fanjet coming to the launching ceremony.

Just got the package this morning and watched it.

SPOILERS-ALERT!

Compared to the last 3-episodes...

There was minimum fighter and mecha duels. the mecha duel just involves Roy getting ambushed by DD and Roy taking out two of the anti-un "destroids". There's a great mecha-fanservice shot of Zero for desktop-pics usage.

Character-development was also minimal here as it pretty much just involves character-introduction (hasford) and character-realizations (sara and shin, mostly). Nutuk looks pretty rad in his village-chief outfit. hehehe.

The "child-porn" is nothing more than a flashback of bare-chested kid-Sara being trained. Lasts only a minute or so.

There was that kewl 2k4-edition of Hikaru's rescue of Minmay re-enacted by Shin. Oh, yeah. Shin and Roy got their groove on with their ladies in this episode.

There are still some stuff and I don't want to spoil it too much by mentioning them. Suffice to say that episode-5 will be better and there's a chance that we will/might prolly see the VF-1 in ep-5. ;)

From the R2, I'm not sure if I got the first-pressing as it only contains the 6-8(?) page mini Design-Works pamphlet containing character, mecha, and interview stuff. In japanese. Stuff that Egan or Nanashi or other statisticians/encyclopedists here might be reallly interested. If there are any other goodies from other first-press owners, let us know what you got.

Oh yeah. The Macross Zero-Zero featurette was funny, too.

No snaps or scans today as I'm heading out the door now for some appt.

I'm glad someone else mentioned the '2k4 version of Hikaru saving Minmay scene' coz the moment I saw the scene from this volume, that is what I remembered... though I can't remember exactly whether there was this scene in the TV series, or just in the movie (DYRL).

I think Zero is definitely trying to appeal to new fans, and also give back a little something to the hardcore fans.

I agree this episode was really lack of action (though I quite liked all the mech/valkyrie scenes) - though it was a little disappointing that Roy got his ass kicked...

In Vol. 5, we will probably see the UN SPACY kicking Anti-UN's ass... I suppose Shin's piloting skills is improving with every encounter with Nora, but it would take me quite a bit of convincing to have him defeat her... (I guess it might end up as a stalemate...)

Roy and DD are probably equal so hopefully we will see some of that cool piloting from Roy!!
