And movable no less! Awesome! Did you scratch build that, or was it a lucky find in the spares box? Scratch built. Quote
Chas Posted December 7 Posted December 7 😱 Lovely work, and so clean. I've got a long way to go. Quote

Papa Rat Posted December 8 Posted December 8 @nightmareB4macross that’s a great detail. How do you move the eye? Is it accessible from the back of the head? Quote
Papa Rat Posted December 8 Posted December 8 @Chas Very cool. I’m excited to see what you do to this build. Whole lot of sanding going on over here for this big boy. Volks 1/100 Viola Crumars II Quote

tekering Posted December 8 Posted December 8 @Chas @nightmareB4macross Impressive engineering, guys! I'm calling Dresden's Blue Beetle done. Here are a few finished pics. Thanks for the support, gentlemen. 🥰 Quote

Papa Rat Posted December 8 Posted December 8 (edited) @electric indigoI hope I can get my paws on a Terror Mirage kit next for the showdown with Vaiola. Hope Santa delivers the goods. 🤣 Edited December 8 by Papa Rat Quote
electric indigo Posted December 8 Posted December 8 @Papa Rat That would make a nice dio or display pair on the shelf. I wish you luck. Here are more pics of the Blood Temple; it's hard to shoot in the sparse December light. I took some inspiration from the Kaiyodo version of the Blood Temple – the color is grey/orange instead of white/red, and the outer shoulder armor and the fins on the back are angled downward. It's not the flashyest design, but it has a great presence, especially if you listen to the Shogun soundtrack while you apply the final touches. Quote

Sometimes simplicity shows off the beauty of the design. It looks great and doesn’t need a lot of bling hanging off it to give it shelf presence Quote
Papa Rat Posted December 8 Posted December 8 (edited) @Big s I had reached out to Volks at one point when they had put out the first VSMS kit and asked if the IMS series will continue. Customer service said it will so there is hope that we will see more in that line along with the smaller 1/144 versions of KOG and LED coming out. @electric indigo That’s such beautiful work. The gray and orange is chefs kiss. Highly inspirational for me. Thanks so much for sharing. Echoing what Big S said about the simplicity…it’s got such nice lines and composition that it feels just right. I will also say I love the over the top designs too like this beauty! electric indigo Posted December 9 Posted December 9 @Papa Rat Haha, I got the Workshop Cast Kan in a rush of megalomania 10 years ago, and it's a true Boss Level kit. Adjusting the free-pose limbs is a science in itself, then apply a spotless finish on all those large, plain shells, and at the end there are 100 tiny orange squares to be filled but only after you filles the little grey squares right next to them. For me, Nagano peaked in the Plastic Style era; I can't seem to warm up to any of the later designs or the Gothicmade creatures. The recent makeovers of the older MH designs is a pleasant development. Quote

Very odd joints and somehow they got them to function and still look proper to the design. Not really the designs I would buy, but I’m super impressed every time I see one put together and posed Quote

Just went on a search and dug this up. https://www.gunjap.net/site/?p=100260 Very impressive stuff right there. Any tips on how to approach a first build dealing with a resin based kit? I’d love to jump in with a MH. I see some sweet deals online but imagine they are bootlegs which has its own issues I may not want to get into. Quote
electric indigo Posted Friday at 03:20 PM Posted Friday at 03:20 PM I started my FSS path with the Wave 1/144 kits (when they were pretty affordable). Basic skills like sanding & puttying aren't different from plastic models. You need to figure out the joint positions of the limbs and secure the connection of parts with wires, but the later is actually fun IMO. Wave's A-Toll is a great kit: Not too many parts: Step 1 - Assembly: Step 2 - Paint everything in the desired color: Step 3 - Success!: If you are eyeing a specific kit, feel free to ask for additional info. Beautiful work as always and thanks for the run down. I’ll definitely reach out once I decide and or find an affordable kit to start off my GK kit building journey I did the A-Toll IMS kit. Think it was my 4th or 5th build starting out with the hobby. I learned a lot from it. I think it’s one of my favored designs. I’d build another one of those again for sure. edit* I love the gold details you added to the mottled relief texture areas in your A-Toll. I left my blank. Not sure why? Lol. I may go back in and bite your style and copy you. It’s a nice little flair. ✌️ Edited Friday at 07:00 PM by Papa Rat Quote
electric indigo Posted Friday at 07:22 PM Posted Friday at 07:22 PM For the gold inlays I used water based gold gouache. You can just wipe away any spill with a wet fingertip. I got the color scheme from the old Volks kit sculpted by Takehito Ikushima that is pictured in the Mortar Headd Saga book. If you don't already have it, grab it ASAP – it will fuel your Mortar Headd inspiration for years. Quote
Papa Rat Posted Friday at 07:23 PM Posted Friday at 07:23 PM I’m currently working on a 1/100 Vaiola IMS. Getting the frame and cloak painted. Tonight I get the armor color down. Hope to finish this weekend if time allows. Quote

nightmareB4macross Posted Saturday at 06:25 AM Posted Saturday at 06:25 AM The details of all those FSS kits are just so beautiful to see in process and finished. Of all the kits my favorite is still the Emerald Jagd Mirage with its long twin spires. —— On another note, the gunpod sits well in fighter mode. And the reduced intake shrouds rest in the perfect place. Calves still need to be finished and the inner backplate needs to be addressed. But all said, it’s looking good. Quote

Shape is mostly done, it’s the inner backplate that needs some adjustment. The part should be tapered at the back. Right now it’s a bit THICC. Quote

The B.U.F.F.! 😁 I grew up watching these do touch and goes from Carswell AFB in west Fort Worth in the 80s from the church where my mom worked in the summers and I was out of school. Riiigght in the flight path after takeoff.. Glorious! ***Didn't think displaying a 1/144 B-52 would be an issue.... 🤔 However...
