LocusPocus Posted Saturday at 02:38 PM Posted Saturday at 02:38 PM Currently finishing this guy up. A little more weathering and grime on the legs maybe. Building up a display base (a la olan mills) in order to loose the odd hasegawa stand. Quote
derex3592 Posted Saturday at 04:13 PM Posted Saturday at 04:13 PM @LocusPocus sweet! 1st build of that Hasegawa Recon Regalt I've seen around here. I have that one in my stash! More pics please! Over here today it's sunny and 70 and the garage is open for painting and clear coating business! Quote
Papa Rat Posted Saturday at 05:16 PM Posted Saturday at 05:16 PM (edited) @derex3592Wow! That looks amazing. I was obsessed with the blackbird when I was young. I had one that was a rocket you could launch. It was amazing until the parachute didn’t deploy on the way down. Hahahaha. @LocusPocus That looks great! I also have one in the stash I hope to get to soon. @nightmareB4macross Is there no end to your madness? 😳 Ok so I’m all done with the Volks 1:144 Neptune. Not tooting my own horn but I am starting to see progress in my building and painting abilities when looking back at past builds. It feels good. Still lots to learn and the more opportunities I have to build will help me get the skills I need to get better. Better late than never getting into the hobby. Loving it. A huge thanks to everyone on this forum. Y’all have giving me plenty of confidence and support. 👍 Edited Saturday at 05:21 PM by Papa Rat Quote

The big one was a bit of a pain with odd fitting and some parts that felt a little warped and such, glad to see this version actually does look superior 6 hours ago, derex3592 said: @LocusPocus sweet! 1st build of that Hasegawa Recon Regalt I've seen around here. derex3592 Posted Sunday at 07:35 PM Posted Sunday at 07:35 PM @Thom - it has to be said we had some random floaters coming down on the Blackbird....had to keep the tweezers handy....😂🫣 Quote
nightmareB4macross Posted Sunday at 08:50 PM Posted Sunday at 08:50 PM Finally. Upgraded my chest hinges. The originals did an amazing job, but I can see they were never meant to last. But these little buggers are what set off a tirade of improvements. Note that I can just hold the cheat plate and the nosecone stays in fighter mode. Finally, gotta love the capabilities of this neck. Reminds me of a certain box art. Quote

And looking closer at your kitty, he looks more like a lion! Great work on that neck @nightmareB4macross! Quote
Papa Rat Posted Monday at 03:58 AM Posted Monday at 03:58 AM It’s LED Mirage time. 1:144 light armament version. Very excited for this little gem. The pearlescent armor along with silver and gold spot colors are going to look great! The armor is semi-transparent which may allow the dark purple/silver and lavender frame get a little reveal here and there. Might be a cool effect 😊 Only issue so far has been the poly caps in the knees were so tight it caused the plastic on both to split and need repairs. As long as I can get it into a simple standing pose when completed that’s fine with me. Quote
nightmareB4macross Posted Monday at 07:36 AM Posted Monday at 07:36 AM Still filling in the gaps. Quote

I had a blast working on it and the whole build came together relatively fast. ✌️ The whole brush painted mermaid emblem only happened because I had to. 🙃 I suck at applying decals, especially on weird surfaces and ended up tearing it apart in the process. Looking back I have no regrets and like the way it turned out in the end. What do you have cooking? Quote
tekering Posted Tuesday at 05:36 AM Posted Tuesday at 05:36 AM 1 hour ago, Papa Rat said: What do you have cooking? Quite an exciting commission, actually. The client wants a model of "The Blue Beetle" from The Dresden Files, a series of novels about a guy who goes around fighting demons in a poorly-maintained old Volkswagen. According to the book, the original hood and doors were trashed and replacements were scavenged from other Beetles, resulting in a mismatched color scheme with all sorts of damage evident. This project affords me the opportunity to work backwards, starting with a completed 1:18 die-cast VW: I disassembled it as best I could, but couldn't separate the doors or the hood. Instead, I had to do a lot of careful masking to ensure distinct color separation. Apparently, the original doors were torn off by hellhounds, so I'm adding gouges and claw marks around the doorframes. Much of the weathering work I've done in the past is to make plastic look like painted metal. Adding damage to actual metal parts is a very different experience. 😅 Quote
Papa Rat Posted Tuesday at 06:18 AM Posted Tuesday at 06:18 AM @tekering Looks like a fun project. Nice size too! Keep us posted. This also points me towards a series I have never heard of. I guess I found a new book(s) to check out. 👍 thanks. Quote
