Thanks for the compliment!

It’s supposed to be the VF-1D but lacks any details for the most part.
Have a look.

That’s the VF-1C. Nice.

The kit is labeled as the VF-1D. The version of that head makes an appearance in Macross Design Works and possibly in SDF-M in grey.

The 15th anniversary VF figures also had this unique head found on the Super VF-1D GERWALK, but not in the Battroid. 🧐

Very cool.

@Cheese3 Your Misa figure looks good! I lost the eye decals for mine, so she came out looking more like Little Orphan Annie!🤣

@derex3592 Your work areas are looking great! Congrats!

@Papa Rat The paint on your -1D looks REALLY good! Nice shading with the color mixtures.

@Chas The mods to your SDF-1 made it look much better!

@pengbuzz I saw a video online on how to save money model building. One of the suggestions was to use a watered down solution of white vinegar for a decal setting solution. I always thought setting solution smelled like acetic acid. I would give it a shot! - MT

Thank MT: I heard of that a while back and tried it.

My bottle of metallic blue acrylic paint STILL won't talk to me after that one! O.o

I have a feeling that Arii just f***** up the sculpt on the tucked in head. Then again they could’ve tried sneaking something in that they thought no one would notice, but I’m pretty sure they messed up.

they may not have had the best of art to go on and just figured it was good enough. Some of the box arts looked a bit funky at the time as well. Arii wasn’t always the best at details or proportions. I’m still surprised at the overall appearance of their fighter kit in comparison to the oddities on the fighter and gerwalk kitsIMG_3281.jpeg.b95efee76f3e8392447a536d5b14fad4.jpegIMG_3269.jpeg.2d98eeb30ee50894d343822f0fff6985.jpeg

Work is underway on the IMAI 1/48 scale Orguss M.Lover Lieea.

I’m currently modifying the rear vents to be closer to the animation artwork. This is my first foray into using Milliput…I think I like it? I roughed in the area I wanted to change and will dial it in tomorrow when it hardens.

Not quite. The VF-1C was an intended VF. image.jpeg.3891e6e34530bfb93785be2d51c3288e.jpegimage.jpeg.471f546c4f4d99982e0d9b2763ef6cec.jpegimage.jpeg.ff7f984c1db2efe424f9153acac1230a.jpegimage.jpeg.7cfa3b3572fb0ec0adfb8c215ba1df3a.jpegimage.jpeg.1f181e6ad2e0a2a44252a95561af1fbc.jpeg

Thanks for the reference material. Very cool. The head on the runner is exactly like the one that came in that VF-1D fighter.

Did they just mess up and make that alternate head and then just get lazy and not change it in the fighter and gerwalk? Just wondering since it’s labeled as 1D

The milliput looked like crap and I would say it was unsuccessful. So I figured addition by subtraction will work better. I don’t own a micro saw or whatever so I used a big old hacksaw to cut off the rear. You make do with what you got. It was a mess but I rebuilt it with a few pieces of .5 mm pla to make up for all the material I lost in sawing, reattached both halves and I think it worked out great. In doing so I created a panel line that I was going to scribe in anyways.

Upgrading over 35 years old TT model trains today. The double deck wagon will receive lights. I had to build in connections so it can draw power from the wheels, and then build a full bridge rectifier from diodes so the light inside is always on (not just one way… because diodes).

hahaha

and I build a new motor into the locomotive. It didn’t work, and took me three hours to figure out the issue. Bad connection to draw power. Hurgh…

@Papa Rat Nice fixes to the rear. By the way, use Milliput when it is still wet. It smooths down great with water and your fingers saving sanding, and trim it with blades while still semi-cured. It is good stuff. It just needs practice like any tool.

@Urashiman Cool! Getting all electronicy too! I looked through my dad's old Lionel train stuff. There was this glob of aluminum with fins about the size of a small matchbox. I asked him what it was. He said, "A diode"! Technology sure has changed! 😁- MT

@MechTech Thanks for the pointers. I finally have a monster kit on the way and I hear it eats up the putty.

Is it the Imai one? because I know for sure that one definitely eats the putty. All four cannons every part on the legs and the rms and the body. Lots of big seams. Also alignment issues as well. Some big parts on the arms were warped a bit as well from what I remember. It looks great if you really put in the work though

I’ve never seen the Arii kit actually built, so if it’s that one, I’d love to see all the steps.

I didn’t know there was an ARII version  I kept seeing this and the Bandai

You might be better off buying a can of MEK and throwing old sprue into it to make sprue goo.

That’s a great idea. I haven’t made it before and would love to give a go. 👍

yeah man ... those big diodes ... They are still around for high voltage/power systems.

That’s the Imai one. If you look close at the lower right corner, you can see their logo. Bandai bought their molds and it the same kit. So if you see a bandai one, it’s just a more recent production run of that kit. That goes for a good amount of Imai kits. Bandai often rereleases their old models under their name for anniversary specials.

Anyway, get ready to really put in some work on those seams and stock up on that glue and putty. You may also want to practice scribing as well. I remember the panels on the face didn’t match too well and it will be easier to fill in one side and prescribe them. I think I had to use hot water to straighten out the arms to align them.
