I was wandering through my borrowed copy of Macross Hobby Handbook 1: Macross Model world and noticed a little picture feature some booster/space equiped Ghosts.

Now I just need to buy another one of Hon's Ghosts.

Y'all might be interested in the FAST pack equipped RC-4E Rabbit that appears in one of the pages of one of the books on DYRL. It was mounting the VT-1 trainer packs. But that implies that it can mount any dorsal FAST packs mountable on the VF-1.

http://www.mahq.net/mecha/macross/dyrl/rc-4e.htm (doesn't have the FAST packs. Providing link so people know which vehicle I'm referring to.)

Regarding the Ghost... a civilian, piloted version of them did appear in the Macross 7 Trash manga.

I'll try and get the three alternative heads for the Phalanx up also.

Kylwell wasnt that the version of the ghost seen in M+? Or did that one have standard VF-1 style fastpacks installed?

Posted

Well, given the age of this book.... they could have used it. Think this was printed before Mac+ came out.

I loved the old Space Ghost cartoon! His "talk show" was pretty good too.

The two drones seen in M+ seem to be VF-11's converted to the task (earth Ghost fighter testing scene) or the remote control type launched from that badarsed bomber in ep. 1. (YF-21 testing scene)

There were VF-11s in that scene yes but there were also a couple QF-3000 ghosts being hit as well.

I thought that both the Ghost and the Rabbit looked cool with fast packs! I'm tempted to build the Rabbit some day, but most of what I have is TV, not DYRL. - MT

Ah! Thanks MechaTech. I forgot that the Rabbit has legs - and they can mount VF-1 type conformal fuel tank FAST packs on them!

MM sounds like someone will be staying behind after calss to rewatch M+

Thanks Sean.

No sweat sketchlyey,

OK, now I'm gonna have to build one because it's just too easy to pass up! I'll just take a Nichimo kit and I'm about 1/4 way there. Daedalus first though! :( - MT

Didn't Egan Loo establish back on the old boards that the legs on the Rabbit were not official and that SK had said he did it as a joke?

Thought I'd add the full illustations. These are tagged 1983, for those in the need.

That looks like a VEFR-1 rather than the more refined Elint. I always thought that the gerwalk rabbit with fastpacks was more of a joke than anything else, but it would be cool to see someone model it nonetheless.

Shouji Kawamori might have done them as a joke, but the legs on the Rabbit certainly make much more sense than 'hunky and huge landing skids.' If they aren't legs, and they aren't 'height adjustable' (ie: able to land on uneven surfaces,) then the usefulness of the Rabbit, as a SAR vehicle drops considerably. Aside from transport and SAR, what other roles does the Rabbit fulfill? Perhaps some C&C duties - but there doesn't appear to be a lot of internal space.

The VEFR-1 "Funny Chinese" appeared (briefly, at best, I believe,) in the later episodes of the SDF:M TV series. One of them is visible amongst the plethora of VFs in the pan-up the SDF-1 when it is leading the charge against the Bodolza flagship.

It's mid-way up the lower leg, on the left side of the picture.

Yeah, looks like a VF-1D with a radome and the arm antennae from an Elint...

I got the picture from the "This is Animation" DYRL Movie book. Most of Kylwell's stuff is in there too, although on a yellow backround. I think it is a joke, but it would look cool built up! - MT

I double checked today and were both off. The first ones shown from the front are a weird ghost/VF-11/something VF-1 hybrid. The next are just VF-11 drones. still it is weird.

I thought those were VF-11´s with a QF-3000 head added and painted orange.... I have still got to see original QF-300´s in M+...

BTW, I´m still here, I´ve just got an awful lot to do at the moment.. work for architects and a new master in the making! But it is not Macross (I strayed away, it is a BSG commission this time) and I have to finish it before I can go on with the vehicles (the 6-wheeler is about 75% done, need to get some pics soon). I wish I had like 4 hands or a machine that extends 1 working hour to a week -without getting a week older of course..)
