  1. Upcoming series. Ridiculous name, but has some big names attached to it and some gorgeous looking animation (trailer needs more robots tho !) http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2012-12-30/gargantia-on-the-verdurous-planet-1st-full-promo-subtitled-in-english
  2. So we finally have a teaser trailer of sorts. http://www.animenews...-promo-streamed Ship designs are nicely detailed, although I still say the head looks like a cross between Tiger & Bunny and Aquarion ...
  3. Hi, I’m not sure if this counts as spam, but I’m a well-known novelist. I’d like to show people my latest book: http://www.amazon.com/The-0th-Dimension-ebook/dp/B00AFX3N56/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1354348417&sr=8-1&keywords=the+0th+dimension It’s about godlike organisms fighting across the universe against living black holes. There are no spaceships. No aliens. The characters are all cosmic, and indeed, it is the most cosmic story ever told.
  4. Have you seen the CBS Cares prostate exam promo? Are you familiar with Robotech The Sentinels and Dr. Emil Lang? If so, then you may enjoy this: Robotech's Dr. Lang is the chief engineer in SDF Macross that comes up with the modular transformation and the pin point barrier. Does the Macross chief engineer have a name? For the Land Of The Lost and Robotech/Mospeada fans, I did this one a few months ago:
  5. Nov. 17. https://path.com/p/3okDA4 Another video.
  6. Please forgive me if this has been posted before. How old were you when you first discovered Macross? It doesn't matter if it was Robotech or not, since it 'tech uses the same animation for the first third of their saga. I was about 14, just getting into anime, back when it was still rare and underground. I had heard of Robotech from when I was younger, from commericals and all, but it was never on here. So, I discovered that a video store here had anime for rent. I clearly remember renting Project A-KO, but saw both Robotech II the Sentinels and Macross II (this was the VHS days) on the shelf as well. I later rented Robotech II, but honestly didn't understand any bit of it. A few weeks later I rented Macross II vol 1, and I was amazed by the space combat and storyline. I then subequently rented the later volumes when the store got them in. An anime all about transforming jets? Yeah I was definitely pleased. I later rented Clash of the Bionoids from another rental store, by this time I knew it was Macross, but still didn't know how it was related to Robotech at all. A few years later I found out the "awful" truth about the differences between Robotech and Macross, By that time, I had all 4 vhs OVA episodes of Macross Plus (still my favorite macross story to date), had purchased the "Uncut" version of Clash of the Bionoids, aka "SDF Macross: Do You Remember Love?" as everyone else in the world knows it as. Then Robotech came on Toonami (RIP) , and I was able to enjoy it knowing it as an alternate universe to a greater storyline. Years later I was finally able to watch the original Macross series the way it was originally intended to, and enjoy it that much more So, what's your Macross story?
  7. New thread! Keep it going. Watched the 6th movie for Break Blade. This show is too epic. I'm just abit annoyed that And the Riobot Delphine looks pretty impressive. http://www.gundammodelkits.com/riobot-delphine-third-form-review-by-gamu-toys.html
  8. Discuss Panzer World Galient Toys, Models and Anime HERE First Up; Wave W.H.A.M.! "Galient OVA Tetsu-Kyojin Completed Action Model"
  9. I thought it would be nice if there's a dedicated thread for this toy line.. I knew a couple of forumers here whose into collecting anime figures.. especially large female figures.. if you have them, then post it here.. I'm also aware that some members kinda find 'collecting sexy anime figs' kinda weird.. but i hope we all respect each collectors preferences.. anyway... to start this thread, here's one of my all time favorite figure: Max Factory 1/7 Kureha (Shining Wind)
  10. I've been messing with my shelves alot lately with the introduction of all my new vinyls toys (both modern and vintage) and thought it'd be fun to show off where I'm at right now. The bottom shelf is my ~1/60 real robot shelf with Yamato valks, Patlabor machines, Gundam stuff, and some 28mm war gaming models all approximately in scale with each other. Next shelf up is the product of my recent discovery of all things vintage robots pre-Transformers. On top of that is some Transformers and some vinyls, and then on top of that some bigger Transformers and models I've built. I also snapped a shot of my Machine Robo shelf, and my 'shelfless' Jumbo-sized toys. I've got another set of modern vinyls and other stuff spread around on my bookshelves, but this is the bulk of what's out right now. It's a shame I'm out of room, because I've an Iron Man collection that fills a shelf on its own, and a huge storage bin full of more G1 Transformers that I tragically have nowhere to put. More pics here: http://prometheusrising.wordpress.com/2009/06/11/shelves/
  11. Anyone... Reading some information, very limited right now, on the new Gundam Unicorn 0096. So far it is a novel base anime with the anime series in the works or in the process of being made. Bought the latest Hobby Japan magazine and it has some great stuff on this new Gundam series. Remind me of the Gundam Char's Counterattack, which I was told the new 0096 is base on the story of war after the Char's Counterattack? Anyone has any information, please share with the rest of us. Cheers
  12. I'm kinda sad that Southern Cross is not much loved by anyone from both sides of the Pacific ocean. Anyone has any idea if this TV series is a big flop in Japan when it was originally released? I mean, we know Macross is huge, even before the Macross Plus revival, with tonnes of toys made for it, and Mospeada is currently enjoying a nice revival in the toys re-release. But I am doubtful if I remember seeing toys in Japan for Southern Cross in the original 80s release, and even more doubtful if any toys will be re-released in the near future. I hope anyone can provide info if this series is really a flop back then, and why so. Many thanks. p.s. I don't mean Jeanne released as Dana Sterling on a vacuum cleaner in the 'Robotech' toyline in USA. I mean Jeanne released as Jeanne in Japan. And I don't remember seeing any Bioroid released either. Correct me please if I'm wrong. Thanks. p.p.s. What I really really want to find is the song CD of the show. They're hauntingly beautiful (the ending song, and the Zor song of the flower legend. And not to sound blasphemous on a Macross forum, but imo, I think they're even more beautiful than the Macross songs) nb: Found this in wiki: The three titles share some of the same creators, and Macross is referenced by character cameos and inside references by the latter two series. However, the basic stories are unrelated. Southern Cross was the least successful of the Super Dimensional banner and was actually cancelled due to low ratings, forcing the scriptwriters to hastily conclude the series. No wonder the last episode always felt rushed, trying to tie all the loose ends in the last episode #23. sigh...
  13. I loved this series when I was a kid. Although it didn't have big guns and missiles and gatlings etc etc, it had a unique charm. I particularly liked the Orchestra like theme music that sometimes plays in the background.
  14. Who liked Crusher Joe? Some mecha designs were by Shoji Kawamori who did beautiful work on Macross, as we all know. Some elements of his design evolution can clearly be seen in in Pinnace Fighter. Although a couple of models of this bird have been available in 144 & 100 scale, I didn't like them... they seemed to squat or not detailed enough for me. So I decided to build my own. Model is under construction, WIP below: http://s177.photobucket.com/albums/w239/PetarB/Pinnace/ Where I'm at:
  15. Wow after diggin up some 80's anime I found this cool opening theme. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AiIHL0pVMo Did anyone watched those TV series / OVA? (style makes me think of mospeada)
  16. The Big O (THE ビッグオー) Sunrise/WOWOW/Cartoon Network/Bandai Visual, 1999, 2002 Bandai Entertainment, 2001-2002, 2003-2004 Directed by Kazuyoshi Katayama (Those Who Hunt Elves, Argento Soma)Written by Chiaki J. Konaka (Armitage III, RahXephon) Created by Hajime Yatate (pseudonym for unnamed staff members of Sunrise) Running Time: 25 minutes per episode Rated 13-Up for violence, mature situations and mild language. "Cast in the name of God, ye not guilty." Cast (Japanese) Mitsuru Miyamoto (Hubb in Wolf's Rain, Itsuki in RahXephon) as Roger Smith Akiko Yajima (Rickert in Berserk, Tsubasa in Figure 17) as R. My Goddess: The Movie) as Roger Smith Lia Sargent (Hand Maid May, Milly in Trigun) as R. Dorothy Wayneright Richard Barnes (Delaz in Mobile Suit Gundam 0083, Gomez in Macross Plus) as Norman Burg (season 1) Alan Oppenheimer as Norman Burg (season 2) Chuck Farley as Major Dan Dastun Wendee Lee (Faye in Cowboy Bebop, Antonia in Heat Guy J) as Angel Alfred Thor as Alex Rosewater James Lyon (Briareos in Appleseed, Duke Red in Metropolis) as Big Ear Michael McConnohie (Norris in Gundam: The 08th MS Team, Dawson in Golgo 13: The Professional) as Michael Seebach/Schwarzwald Robert Wicks (Gene in Outlaw Star, Hubb in Wolf's Rain) as Beck Gold Crispin Freeman (Alucard in Hellsing, Togusa in Ghost in the Shell: SAC) as Alan Gabriel William Frederick (Aramaki in Ghost in the Shell: SAC) as Gordon Rosewater "Big O! It's Showtime!" Synopsis Paradigm City - a metropolis with a lost past and an uncertain future. Among its citizens is Roger Smith, a negotiator who solves the city's problems not handled by the military police. When problems escalate beyond human control, he calls upon his Megadeus known as Big O. Along with his butler Norman and a mysterious female android named Dorothy, Roger keeps the city safe from crime while trying to solve the mystery of lost memories from 40 years ago. "Big O! And, Action!" Story: B+ Imagine Batman: The Animated Series mixed with Giant Robo, and you have The Big O. It has a mix of film noir and giant robot action, along with a complex storyline. You also have a host of characters that come straight out of Batman. Most obvious are Roger and Norman, your typical rich hero and his butler. Some of the villains like Schwarzwald and Beck act like stand-ins for the Joker or Riddler. Season 1 ended with a cliffhanger, which prompted Cartoon Network to step in to help produce season 2 by popular demand. And like many newer anime titles, The Big O's ending was rather anticlimactic, as it was a variation of the "pushing the reset button" scenario used by Neon Genesis Evangelion. At least this one made more sense. Animation: A So why does this anime look a lot like Batman: TAS? Simple: the same animators worked on it. Slick character and mecha designs by Keiichi Satou (Mazinkaiser) give life to the retro backgrounds. And even though the Megadeuses are big, lumbering machines, the battle scenes score up there with Giant Robo and Kishin Corps. Soundtrack: A+ "Big O! Big O, Big O, Big O!" Toshihiko Sahashi (Full Metal Panic!, Steel Angel Kurumi) supplies one of the most underrated anime soundtracks ever composed. It uses classical and jazz with shades of John Barry (Dr. No and most of the James Bond 007 movies), Jerry Goldsmith (The Twilight Zone, Star Trek) and Danny Elfman (Batman, Darkman). The opening theme by Rui Nagai has Queen's Flash Gordon theme all over it. And it's one of those songs you'll be singing all over. Sub vs. Dub Surprisingly, the English dub blows the Japanese version out of the water with its excellent voice acting and script. Perhaps it's because The Big O looks very un-anime. DVD Extras: B Each disc comes with text interviews with staff members, creditless opening and ending sequences, and production sketches. The Bottom Line Still underrated to this day, The Big O is a must for any anime or sci-fi afficionado. We have come to terms. 17. I know its a bit late, but this is one of the animes that has made a buzz over there at animesuki and I though it deserved its won thread here in MW. Just looking at the first episode, It would seem this series has a different style to it. The sound quality and animation are pretty AWESOME!!! So, who's watched it? I think its only me and wolfx (as MW members), who watched this and talked about it sparingly in another thread. I would really love a comment from Areaseven in this anime. BTW, the raws on this thing are up to episode 9 and i heard the "meido" (who is one of the most anticipated characters of the anime) has appeared. Oh yeah some pics can be found in this blogs: http://anime.miao.us/archives/2006/04/08/694/ http://mangaminxslair.blogspot.com/2006/04...-lagoon-01.html http://www.batrock.net/anime/?p=452 http://www.yayapapayaz.com/handofgory/2006...lack-lagoon-1-2
  18. Any other fans of Hirohiko Araki here? The artist famous for Jojo's Bizarre Adventure! I recommend it for anyone looking for a mature Manga title with some strange magical storylines and cool fight scenes. The Manga(Generation 3 anyway) is now coming out here finally! http://www.viz.com/products/products.php?series_id=224 I am hoping if it sells well that we can get Generations 1-2,and 4-7 over here. You can also get the OVA's of the same series here. http://www.supertechnoarts.com/ So far I have read through volume 3 and love it. I ordered the entire set of DVDs after reading this review http://www.dvdvisionjapan.com/Jojodvd1.htm I cant wait to watch them. I cant put my finger on it but I really did the style and art in Jojo's. It is a mix of Tetsuo Hara(Fist of the North Star/Blue Sky) and something more akin to a standard Shonen Weekly. If anyone has any info on the other series or just some comments that would be cool. Thanks!
  19. scopedog I'm thinking about buying one of these, Does anybody have one who could tell me about it? I don't really know much about Votoms, But I think the mecha are awesome. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I didn't know if I could post a Takara toy in they toy forums. I figured it'd be ok because I want to know about the series too. I saw the opening theme for the show on youtube, and thought it was great. Coments on the series? Anything you want to tell me? I searched for old threads most looked pretty short or old.
  20. I was checking out my newly-acquired Artmic Bible and damn there is some cool mecha in there. I especially like the stuff from Megazone and Gall Force, but I have never seen any kits for those shows for sale anywhere. So I thought, why not ask the guys on Macross World? If you have pics of your non-Macross mecha, I'd love to see them. Toys, models, whatever. I'm dying to see what you got.
  21. Two week ago Adult Swim had advertised Escaflowne will be airing on the 10th of September, so I thought they were bringing the series onto Adultswim after it was unceramoniously taken off Fox saturday morning lineup a long time ago. Anyway when I saw it took a different take on the show, the characters were all there but the way it started from beginning to end was completely different it's like a retelling of the series, in turn Mr. Kawamorii pulled a DYRL with Escaflowne. All in all I liked it, when escaflowne appeared with Hitomi in it, It looked more organic than mechanical and the characters had opposite roles than the ones in the series. If anyone who was fortunate enogh to stay awake to see it what's your take on it, yay or nay?
  22. I was wodering is there any zone of enders mech toys out there?
  23. Azumanga Daioh: The Animation (あずまんが大王) Imagica/GENCO/J.C. Staff/TV Tokyo/King Records, 2002 ADV Films, 2004 Directed by Hiroshi Nishikiori (Gad Guard, Angelic Layer) Based on the manga by Kiyohiko Azuma (Yotsubato!) Running Time: 25 minutes per episode Rated 13+ for mature situations and mild language. "Tsukurimasho, tsukurimasho, Sate sate nani ga dekiru kara. Hai! Dekimashita!" - Chiyo MihamaCast (Japanese) Tomoko Kaneda (Marie in Please Teacher!, Bonta-kun in Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu) as Chiyo Mihama Yuki Matsuoka (Alyssa in Uchuu no Stellvia, Hitomi in Appleseed: The Movie) as Ayumu "Osaka" Kasuga Yuu Asakawa (Motoko in Love Hina, Jura in Vandread) as Sakaki Chieko Higuchi (Shiho in To Heart, Ai-chan in Transformers Car Robots) as Tomo Takino Rie Tanaka (Chii in Chobits, Saki in Steel Angel Kurumi) as Koyomi "Yomi" Mizuhara Houko Kuwashima (Kirika in NOIR, Quon in RahXephon) as Kagura Akiko Hiramatsu (Miyuki in You're Under Arrest, Nene in Bubblegum Crisis) as Yukari Tanizaki Aya Hisakawa (Haruka in RahXephon, Skuld in Ah! My Goddess) as Minamo "Nyamo" Kurosawa Kouji Ishii (Oji in The Legend of Black Heaven, Taiga in King of Braves GaoGaiGar) as Mr. Kimura Sakura Nogawa (Hiroko in Narutaru, Tsukasa in Daphne in the Brilliant Blue) as Kaorin Sayaka Ohara (Racquel in Scrapped Princess, Ezra in Vandread) as Kimura's wife Norio Wakamoto (Coach in Gunbuster, Vicious in Cowboy Bebop) as Chiyochichi Synopsis Azumanga Daioh chronicles the adventures of high school students Chiyo (The 10-year-old genius), Osaka (the resident airhead), Sakaki (the shy one prone to cat bites), Tomo (the loose cannon), Yomi (the short-tempered one) and Kagura (the resident jock) - along with their rather childish homeroom teacher Yukari. Story: A+ It's hard to believe that an anime based on school life can be this good. Right from the first episode, you'll be hooked on Azumanga Daioh's cheerful characters, witty storytelling and jokes that stick to your head like Krazy glue. Animation: A- The colorful opening sequence puts Disney to shame. The series animation itself isn't as flashy as other titles, but still a masterpiece on its own. Yasuhisa Kato's (Happy Lesson, Banner of the Stars) character designs are faithful to Azuma's original artwork. Soundtrack: A+ Sometimes, there's an anime soundtrack that leaves a smile on your face. Azumanga Daioh's music by Masaki Kurihara and the Kuri-corder Pops Orchestra is a perfect example, mixing school instruments with retro '60s surf music perfectly like bread and butter. And the opening theme "Soramimi Cake" by Oranges & Lemons is easily the most kawaii anime theme today. Sub vs. Dub Congratulations, ADV. You've just given us the worst English dub since Neon Genesis Evangelion. DVD Extras: A (Boxed Edition) If you purchased the boxed edition, you get two limited edition cloisonne lapel pins featuring Chiyo-chan and Kamineko. More pins are available on vol. 3 (Neco Coneco), vol. 5 (Chiyochichi) and vol. 6 (Yamamaya). The vol. 1 DVD itself has clean opening & ending sequences and an image gallery. The Bottom Line Arguably the best anime comedy for the whole family, Azumanga Daioh is a must-have for all anime fans. Links Azumanga TV Daioh (Japanese) J.C. 24. Haja Taisei Dangaioh ( 破邪大星ダンガイオー ) AIC/ARTMIC/Bandai Visual, 1987-1989 U.S. Renditions, 1990-1992 (Out of Print) Directed by Toshihiro Hirano (Hades Project Zeorymer, Fight! Iczer-One) Not Rated (Suggested 13-Up). Contains graphic violence and strong language. (Author's note: This review covers the original subtitled release, not Manga Entertainment's butchered version.) "Cross-Fight! Dangaio!"Cast Mayumi Shou (Yuratei in Hades Project Zeorymer, Chi-Chi in Dragon Ball/DBZ/DBGT) as Mia Alice Akira Kamiya (Roy Focker in Macross/Macross Zero, Ryo in City Hunter) as Roll Kran Maya Okamoto (Emma in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, Liza in Macross Dynamite 7) as Lamba Nom Naoko Matsui (Katsumi in Silent Möbius, Rally in Riding Bean) as Pai Thunder Takeshi Aono (Dakuan in Ninja Scroll, Katsuhito and Noboyuki in Tenchi Muyo!) as Dr. Tarsan Shigeru Chiba (Shiba in Patlabor, Megane in Urusei Yatsura) as Gil Berg Kenichi Ogata (Genma in Ranma 1/2, Azaka in Tenchi Muyo!) as Galimos Ichiro Mizuki (legendary anime and tokusatsu singer) as Yoldo Mitsuko Horie (legendary anime and tokusatsu singer) as Dira Masako Katsuki (Emeraldas in Harlock Saga, Lucette in Mobile Suit Gundam 0083) as Shazarla Kazuhiko Inoue (Cyborg 009, Jerid in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam) as Burst. Synopsis Four psychic teenagers - Mia Alice, Roll Kran, Lamba Nom and Pai Thunder - are brainwashed by the scientist Dr. Tarsan as pilots of his greatest experiment - the giant robot Dangaioh. But as their memories slowly return, these pilots use their abilities and Dangaioh to combat the tyranny of Captain Galimos and the Bunker Space Pirates. Story: B- Next to Gunbuster, Dangaio was among the first set of subtitled anime titles in my collection. It's not as good as Gunbuster, but it has a decent plot, great mecha action and okay character development. The U.S. Renditions release is also infamous for mistranslating Psychic as "Side-kick." Aside from that, Dangaio has many elements that giant robot anime enthusiasts love. Unfortunately, the series ended in a cliffhanger that has yet to find a true ending (and no, it's not that poor excuse for a sequel called Great Dangaioh). Animation: A The animation quality of Dangaio is outstanding, even by today's standards. And it's hard to beat Shoji Kawamori's (Macross, The Vision of Escaflowne) design for Dangaio itself. Character designs by Toshihiro Hirano. Supporting mechanical designs by Masami Obari (Bubblegum Crisis, Fatal Fury) and Koichi Ohata (Gunbuster, M.D. Geist). Soundtrack: B- Since the 1970s, Michiaki Watanabe has composed memorable soundtracks for anime titles like Mazinger Z, as well as live-action shows like Jinzou Ningen Kikaider. Unfortunately, he doesn't have much of new material in Dangaio; the soundtrack uses BGM recycled from his other works (the Psychic Wave BGM on episode 1 is taken from Uchuu Keiji Shaider). As a matter of fact, Dangaio's soundtrack would later on be recycled in the 2003 TV series Shinkon Gattai Godannar. At least Dangaio has a catchy opening theme performed by veteran anime vocalists Mitsuko Horie (Choudenji Machine Voltes V, Candy Candy) and Ichiro Mizuki (Mazinger Z, Getter Robo Armageddon). Cross-Fight! Cross-Fight! (Cross-Fight!) Just cross for love Atsuku atsuku atsuku tatakae! Dangaio! The Bottom Line Dangaio is fun for old-school robot anime fans. Too bad you can't get a decent version of this title in the U.S. anymore. Reference Anime News Network
  25. Yesterday morning at about 4:00 AM, I finished episoded 110 of the Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Wow... It took me about three weeks to finish it all from start to end and it was more than worth it. I have to say, without any hesitation, that this is one of the greatest series of all time. More often than not, I can predict fairly well where a show is going and how it will end, but not with this one. It took so many twists and turns along the way that the only thing I could do was just hang on and see what happens next. Plus, how can I not like a setting where the boarding weapon of choice is the battle axe? Anyway, I highly recommend the show for those who haven't seen it yet (there's a petition to bring it over to the US at: http://www.gineigoods.com/form/ . Also, any thoughts or comments from fellow LotGH fans?
