  1. So... I just watched Man of Steel for the first time ever and want to share my thoughts. 1.I had no problem with the way Zod's neck got snapped. I just wish they didn't have Supes give that stupid scream afterwards and left him just kneeling there in quiet contemplation of what he'd done. Also maybe not make him such a wiseass to the US army general afterward. 2.The kiss Lois and Supes shared seemed oddly forced to me since they never really spent any time onscreen together, and she spent more time trying to track him down rather than anything else. Sure there was a little flirting, but this was something they should have left for the sequel. 3.The whole krypton atmosphere and gravity makes Supes weak seems contrived in a "we gotta gimp this guy for drama" way and doesn't carry the same weight as doing straight up kryptonite. It also felt a little inconsistant at times too when Zod's minions come into play. 4.For being Superman and being able to get tossed through 15 buildings at once without harm this guy sure gets knocked unconcious alot. 5.Damn this movie hates father figures and Pa Kent is a moron. 6.Nice effects that really give you a sense of superman's strength. Overall I felt like this movie had potential, but there are some real mis steps in this movies plot that really hold it back from being great. I give it a meh.
  2. I've been saying that for years. The best way to approach this would be introducing scenes from 3 and 4 as a drug induced haze of Ripley's while she's being held on a corporate sanitarium before being rescued. Sulaco fire? Corporate mercs attempting to sieze the ship. Face hugger breaking into the cryopod? A merc smashing the pod to kidnap her. Shaved head etc? Introduction to the sanitarium. Three's ending? Attempted desperation suicide. Becoming a hybrid? Full mental breakdown leading to a fantasy world. The newborn? This is dark, but an aborted baby from a prison guard raping her. The mercs? A marine rescue team. The alien infested ship hitting earth? Corporate plans of a shipment she overheard while being interrogated. Resurrection's ending that faded into a blinding bright white light? Her finally waking up from the nightmare. I would overlay all of that in the opening credits where you would see the flashes scene from a previous movie, but hear someone talking likely a corporate stooge making a log entry like "Attempt to sieze transport Sulaco has failed, only one high profile target has been obtained for processing and interrogation." or "Subject Ellen Ripley attempted suicide today after procedure, medication has been tripled and she is now in a catatonic state. New prison guards have been hired in light of this incident." The first new scene I would have is Ripley waking in a USCMC medbay with a blond woman and a familiar man now in a Marine General uniform calling her name. Sorry for the longwinded fanfiction ramble, its not something I usually do, but this is the only way I see bringing Ripley back, fixing the issues of the series in a timely manner, and opening up as many possible story arcs as possible.
  3. Remeber how a while back I was asking about vintage mecha games and was asking for a list of classic and notable games that I would use to create a blog or a database? Well I decided to roll all that knowledge up into a panel for Anime Boston and it just got accepted! Coming soon Anime Boston 2015! Heavy Metal Heroes: a guide to piloted mecha in video games! This is going to be a busy con for me with this panel and the Air Combat one already being accepted. I also have two others on the wait list that may or may not happen.
  4. I just thought you all would like to know Akira Takarada and Haruo Nakajima are going to be at Anime Boston this year!
  5. You've never seen Lingerie League football pads have you?
  6. So remember when I posted those clips from anime a page or two back featuring air combat? Well it kinda inspired me to host a panel on Air Combat in Anime and it just got approved yesterday. My question is what anime(aside from Macross and Area 88) should I feature in my panel? What things would you want to see if you attended a panel on this subject? Given I have an hour to talk I plan on basically giving a crash course on air combat manuvers, the most popular aircraft in anime(F-15 eagle, F-4 Phantom, Mitsubishi F-1, A6M Zero, BF-109 etc), and showing clips of dogfights in anime while providing commentary on how realistic or amazing they are. I'm thinking about using that clip from Najica as the opener for laughs.
  7. Seriously why is it in 25 plus years of lore since the film came out that nobody has ever made a fully armed military version of it? Yeah its essentially a bulldozer/forklift, but remember the tank started out as a tractor, and this technology is too inviting not to convert to military use.
  8. I personally like Kakarot197's reviews on youtube. His videos are straight to the point covering articulation, accessories, quality, value, and comparisons to similar kits. He knows what he's talking about, and it doesn't hurt that he's a GM head like me.
  9. Yesterday wasn't an easy day for me. I attended a memorial service for a former boss who had passed away suddenly last sunday and it wasn't easy. Hell it never is, will be, or should be. To top it all off we got hit hard with heavy snow into today. Well I stopped on the way home at comic store and picked up a few things. RX-79 UC hardgraph ground war set. HGUC RMS-179 gm II HGUC Zaku II FZ HGUC RGM-79D HGBF Beargguy(soon to be Boston Bruinsguy) Its interesting to see the differences in engineering that has come to the HGUC line over the years and how much more complicated the parts and assembly is of the GM II compared to the GM D.
  10. This movie was epic. I remember watching way back in the day on sci-fi network's Anime Saturday. Great action, good animation, and above all it told a coherent story with a legit ending providing closure. I think that impressed me more than anything else back in the day given how much of the anime from the late 80s-90s had downer endings, left things incomplete, or went off the deep end making little sense.
  11. I actually don't have that book or any Gundam ones as my lack of understanding Japanese puts a damper on anything I might be able to gleam from it. At best I'd be like "OHHHHHH Pretty GMs!" at the pictures. Even then looking at how the sample pages are all CGI images makes it kind of turn off. I will probly end up picking it up along with the Great Mechanics GM guide at some point, because you know.... GMs.Anyways I found out what the RGM-79A is. Its not an early GM like the [E] or [G] or the first production model of the GM like some at mechatalk lead me to believe. Its the mass produced GM version of the RX-78NT1 Alex and the missing link to the N, Q, and RGC-83. I also found this chart that shows where it fits as far as GMs go. It really does make a lot of sense since the Custom has a very similar body to the Alex, and the RGC-83 uses the chobham armor. Aparently the reason we haven't seen it in a OVA, series, or manga(aside from it only reletively recently been created) is because its Gundam's equivilent of the F8F Bearcat. It entered service too late to see combat in the war it was designed for and was quickly replaced by newer more advanced units like the custom.
  12. Anybody know what it actually means on HLJ when something is backordered? Will the item I buy really be shipped in 4-6 weeks or is it more we probly aren't getting anymore in stock but don't want to slap a out of stock or discontinued on it? I really want to pick up the old Javalin, Jamesgun, Gun EZ, and GunBlastor from the old 1/144 V Gundam line. Yeah I know they're tiny, but they are actually pretty well made for a non grade and in scale with my other GM's from HGUC and 08th HG.
  13. Yup the head is inside the head. You can see it when it transforms in the last episode.
  14. You know, when I typed the post out I could have sworn I mentioned that, and yeah the 08th MS really muddled everything up. To make it a little worse now is there is apparently now an RGM-79A. Its supposedly a very early GM that has a head like the RX-78, but without the v-fin and a GM like visor instead of eyes. Mechahq has a picture of it, but no info what so ever. I didn't mention it earlier because I'm not sure if its official or not. That was actually a bit of an issue I had doing the research, figuring out which variants were official or not. Thanks. Just don't ask me to do the same for the Zaku. I swear everyone and their mother had a special variant, and basically every mono eyed suit can trace their lineage back to it. Anyways one real interesting thing I found out is its possible for a RGM-79 to have survived the one year war, been upgraded to a RGM-79R GMII survive the Gryps conflict, and be upgraded yet again into the RGM-86R GMIII seeing action through the various Neo Zeon uprisings. Sounds like an good idea for an OVA or manga in a dead man's gun sort of way following the suit as it changes hands over the years.
  15. So I have a bit of an obscure discussion here, but anyone want to take a stab at the development lineage of the RGM-79 GM? From what I can gather from snippets and translated articles it goes something like this: RGM-79[E] early type(seen in 08th ms) was developed on Luna II from data the White Base passed on. The RGM-79C(0083) was born from this suit. RGM-79[G] ground type(08th ms) was developed in Jaburo to gain ground combat experience. The RGM-79[G] GM Sniper was born from this suit. RGM-79 Standard GM(0079) was developed in Jaburo from data collected from both the [E] and [G] types. Most GM variants like the RGM-79SC, D, L, SP, G(Command), GS, GRS, RAG-79, and RGC-80 etc were born from this suit. RGM-79C Kai(0083) mentioned earlier was developed in Luna II from the [E] type and fought along side the standard GM in the final weeks of the one year war. Ended up suplanting the standard GM post one year war. The Powered GM, Striker, N, Q, and Wagtail, and RGC-83 were developed from this suit. RMS-179/RGM-79R GMII(Zeta) by 0087 most of the one year war GM variants were phased out and replaced by the RMS-179 GM II. Those that weren't scrapped were upgraded and given the RGM-79R designation. AUEG used this suit and the RGM-79SP Sniper II to develop the MSA-003 Nemo. RGM-86R GM III(Double Zeta) At the end of the Gryps conflict the GMII was upgraded once again to the 86R. The EW and Nouvel were born from this suit. By 0096 it served side by side with its eventual replacement the wholly new RGM-89 Jegan.
  16. It really depends on what you are looking for. You can get the standard HGUC GM for 7.99 or a CCA Jeagan for 5.99. I'd say the HGUC average is 15 to 25 with some of the more complex ones pushing 35. The average on the MG's is 45-55. Some of the kits prices are a joke though like charging over 200 for the reissue 1/60 scale jumbos. I chalk that up to not knowing what he has though and assuming bigger is more expensive. Thankfully that's the exception to the rule.
  17. Here's a photo of the aisle. Its an older one from some time last year. Since then they've expanded into another quarter aisle. They have HGUC, MG, PG, and even some older CCA, 08th, 0080, and F90/91 kits. They have a lot of random other Gunpla too like the Wing, SD kits, and newer stuf like HGBF, Age, and Seed/Destiny. They also have a few Hasegawa Valks too. No problem. Still if there's anything you guys are really looking for and have to have and don't mind the price they charge and paying for the shipping I can pick it up for you.
  18. Wait a minute.... Hooters restaurants exist in Japan?
  19. Alright guys let me know what you are looking for and I'll check the comic store in new hampshire for you. They have whats called a wall of gundam, an entire aisle of gunpla kits.
