I wouldn't worry about that ship not being reflected, I don't think it's supposed to be that big, so it seems much closer than all those background elements that are reflected. It's reflection might fall below where the bottom of the frame is. Looking good either way, and I'm looking forward to the after-Christmas sales to finally grab a PS3.

Star Trek Into Darkness, in theaters May 17, 2013
Chronocidal replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Actually, that trailer gives me hope that the JJprise might be going away faster than we expected. But yeah. I'd rather this wasn't Khan, but I don't know why Gary Powers would have that accent. Either way, he doesn't look the part for Khan. Also, I'm suspicious of them using such an obvious homage. Given the order of events in that bit, I think the situation may be directly reversed. What I really do wonder about though is whether they're going to attempt to backtrack, and shoehorn Carol Marcus into this timeline from the start.- 1020 replies

Actually.. no. It really isn't a good idea at all, especially for anything like a toy. The only reason those packs worked was because the YF-19 never left fighter mode. There's no room to deploy the arms in gerwalk with those boosters there, and moving to battroid would mean those boosters are hanging off the hips and probably constantly colliding with the legs, since there isn't room between the wingroots and legs for them to be there.. They work and look great in fighter, but they'd have to be jettisoned for any other mode.

Actually, the cockpit's pretty easy, or at least the nose section is. I'm not sure about pulling out the cockpit itself. You just need to remove the screws from the tip of the nose, in the area where the hip bar goes, and one from inside the landing gear well. After that, the nose should pop apart decently easy. Just make sure to keep track of the landing gear doors, because taking apart the nose will let them fall out, and they could pop loose and fly off somewhere.

Had the exact same breakages on my YF-19 as well. Just to note.. it came out right around the same time as the VF-0, and had VERY similar plastic.

If you check the other thread, there are a few pics of a VF-22 on them, but that's one of the lighter "big" valks. Anything much heavier than a fast-packed 1/60 VF-1, and you'll probably have issues. Anything like the VF-17/VF-19 is probably out, unless you find some way to support the bulk of the valk behind the mounting point.

Just to make sure, remember, the Macross Zero F-14D isn't standard. In fact, given the mashup of details on them, I'd half guess the production team animated the CG F-14 in M0 based on a Monogram/Revell F-14D kit I think David Hingten gave a detailed rundown of all the inconsistencies on the M0 F-14, so you might want to do a search. I know there were a few differences, such as mounting AMRAAMs instead of Sparrows, and using the old seats with the overhead yellow and black handles. I think the cockpit in general may have been vintage A-model equipment, since I remember him using the old missile selector switch. But I also want to say they mixed around some of the various antenna bulges and such on the aircraft, possibly the ECM bulges on the wing gloves. I'll have to watch again to be sure.

No one's tried it yet, since it's not even out. Considering how many people have bought and enjoyed the PSP releases though? I doubt it'll be any kind of serious problem. Think of it this way. You have something like 10 buttons, two joysticks, and a directional pad. The controls can't be that complex, it's nothing like a sim. Worst case, you get some missions with screwy completion requirements, and have to consult a guide. I don't consider "understanding the plot" to be a necessary part of this game, because let's face it... even if you could read Japanese, I'm not sure the plot would even make sense then. You've somehow fallen through a wormhole, and the major characters of every Macross series to date have somehow miraculously appeared in the same airspace in their various personal valks. Stuff happens. Then you fly around and blow things up for fun. All plot/character development/etc is secondary to the fact that we're getting to fly around in 30 years worth of Macross valk designs on our TVs, blowing stuff up with copious amounts of gunpod ammo, and liberal application of the Itano Circus. Edit: Beat me to it, and I actually missed the entire "guild based" thing.. so yeah, there might be more depth to this than I thought. I was under the impression it was just an overall upscale of the PSP games and their mechanics.

I honestly haven't ever tried taking the lower legs on a VF-0 apart.. though I've pretty much disassembled the entire rest of the thing. Problem is, it's just glue all over. I've never tried taking apart the intakes either, because there's too much glue involved, and knowing the tendencies of the VF-0's plastic to just shatter, I haven't wanted to mess with it. If you're trying to get the lower legs apart, are you sure you've got all the screws out? I know there's a rubbery screw cover near the knee joint, so there might be more of those in other places. Really pisses me off too, those stupid screw covers are such a royal pain.

Either would be nice, but I'd love to see a set of uniformed Hikaru and MIsa figures for the VT-1 (even better if you can make the tent )

The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread
Chronocidal replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Left arm looks more like a Harrier to me. I wasn't sure either, until I noticed the outrigger gear under the wings. Leg is harder to tell, but the stabs look decently F-16-ish, and the tanks are classic F-16 style.- 9275 replies

Most of those VF-1s aren't new releases, very few of them have the side covers. Only one there I can actually see with them is the VF-1D.

Actually.. if you think about it, dropping the engines that way could let the valk still fly relatively aircraft-like, while freeing up the arms to let them work as turrets instead of forward facing weapons.

Since yes, it technically is December now, yes. However, remember: "December release!" actually means "Last possible day of December release!" We won't be getting them until well into the new year.

Totally Scratch-Built 1/48 VF1-J Versión Tigrillo
Chronocidal replied to Tigrillo's topic in The Workshop!
That is freaking amazing. I love how you really dug out a ton of random parts to use on this.. especially the random legos for mounting, and even what looks like spare capacitors for missiles. -
Yep, that's the right one. D-models had those recessed intake vents instead of all the big slatted vents. Although, that doesn't necessarily mean the ones in Macross Zero used the right gun either, so I'd check the source material. Fortunately, I think the old Monogram/Revell F-14 comes with the old (wrong for a D) Martin Baker seats, so in this case, their screw-up works in your favor, since you're good to go with those for Shin's F-14. Beware about those huge intake pieces though... it's recommended that you cut off the sections of fuselage attached to the intakes, and glue them on separately. That area is a royal pain in the backside to smooth out later.

It's just my personal opinion, but I actually think it looks much better without the big bright insignia roundels on the wings/fuselage. I know I'm not alone either, because a lot of people decaled these up using alternate markings. Really, Macross 7 probably had the absolute least amount of markings on any of its aircraft out of the entire franchise. No squadron markings except for tiny logos, assorted stripes, and insignia. They really went minimalist with the details, and pretty much gave up pretending the valks were anything similar to real life aircraft. Given how few markings the VF-17 should have, I think leaving them off probably made the VF-17 appeal to a broader range of collectors/customizers. I mean, it's obviously a tribute to the F-117 Stealth, so giving people the option of adding low-visibility marking options is an absolute no brainer, and printing the canon markings would have preempted that. Also.. this is one case where I wish Bandai (and/or whoever was responsible for the VF-171) would lay off the ridiculous amount of markings. I have half a mind to entirely strip all that junk off my VF-171EX, and do the same to a CF down the road. I would have been much happier if they would have stuck closer to the VF-17, and gone the minimalist route. All those logos, labels and stripes just look dumb... I mean.. come on... you're labeling your aircraft with their designation? Really?

Well, considering the cost of the V.2 VF-25s, if you got the blue tinted Alto giftset for cheap, it's really kind of a bargain. That particular one was probably the best bundled release of the V.1 VF-25s, with a few fixes the others never got. I picked one up because that one didn't sell well, and it went on heavy discount. It's not great in battroid, and pretty terrible in gerwalk, but it makes a nice fighter display. The super packs help to hide some of the shortcomings of the first version.

A question about using Gundam Stands with Yamato Valkyries
Chronocidal replied to CoreyD's topic in The Workshop!
Easy partial solution to the weight problem.. mount them sideways, and the pivot won't be under stress from the mounting point being so far off center. Just ordered two sets of 5, so let's see how these work out. Sadly, I somehow missed the place to stick the promotional code, so I wound up paying shipping, but it only came to about $6, so not a huge loss. -
Woo preorder acquired Thanks for the link. Now to hope they get enough in to cover the orders. And... HOLY CRAP. Yep. If they do that scheme, I WILL buy a YF-29, finally. Isamu scheme completely destroys every other way it's been painted.

I would it Yamato would produce it yes. In fact, I'd buy several more. I want one in VF-142 markings. Unfortunately, That looks like a custom done with the kit version. Too bad too. I would have loved to buy kits molded in gray.

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
Chronocidal replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
K thanks. Yeah, the one on the right is definitely a computer prototype that looks slapped together. Which makes you wonder.. why don't they just show the newest work they have? I don't think I know of any other company that uses the previous iteration of a work in progress when putting together advertisements. -
Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
Chronocidal replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
Don't think thats a newer prototype, unless someone can read the Japanese there and correct me. That looks like they're comparing it to a Hasegawa kit. -
Given how many spare sets of Jolly Rogers markings I have, I couldn't care less what this thing comes painted as. Painting it as a FB2012 scheme is probably one of the easiest custom jobs in existence. I mean, seriously. Think about it. Year after year, we clamor for Yamato to make low-vis whatevers, because all the canon color schemes are so bright and non-military. Now, we finally get a valk released in plain gray, and all we do is complain. I'm only half serious, but I am glad that it's not molded in some impossible to cover color, and that it's not in white, since it'll help avoid yellowing.
