  1. Color me curious, but confused. Looks like some interesting new ideas, but I'll definitely wait for the fighter mode pics before I get anything resembling excited. The shoulders look..... weird. The shoulder packs are supposed to cover that entire section, not just sit on top. And I'm going to say this now Bandai: PAINT THE GEAR WHITE. You have absolutely no excuse for your bare metal gear nonsense this time. I dunno. I'm not sure I trust Bandai with a transformation this complex. You know they're going to cast half the structural bits in die-cast, and then expect the paint to stick.
  2. Just ordered a couple kits through HLJ in the past couple of days, and no issues arose, but I'll let you know if anything happens once it tries to process. I think the payment confirmation went through without a hitch though.
  3. The upper NUNS pieces have a screw that you can loosen to reduce the stresses on the parts, so that might help them stay intact. The pair of mine that cracked looked like they had been overtightened. There's not much you can do for the underside ones, since they seem to crack from the stress caused by inserting the hinge pin. Could probably coat them in glue to help them hold together, but they're just very thin parts.
  4. Just got an email from NY saying my pair shipped, but I only ordered them registered SAL, so it'll be a few days before they get here.
  5. Oh, no, I got it, I only mean I find it silly that they're bundling in the plain wings at all, because I'd never see a reason to use them. To me, that feels like bundling a VHS copy of a new movie in with the bluray disc, and I'd rather they just leave them out and lower the price. I guess some people are just really adamant about having that set of flawless wings. *shrug* What it does mean though is that they probably don't have any intention of releasing a weapons set for this one later on, or they'd be holding the wings hostage until you buy the exclusive pack.
  6. Oh, I'd assume so one set has hardpoints, but that only begs the question of why they would include the plain ones.. suppose some people might like ones without the hardpoints? I find it kind of sad that Bandai can make the extra effort to cater to those people, but still can't seem to develop an understanding about aircraft, in a very general sense.
  7. Why do I feel like Bandai couldn't design an attractive stand to save their lives? Looking good so far, though I'm utterly confused as to why they would package a spare set of wings with it, but include nothing to put on them.
  8. Still wish I could get one without any nose art, but I can deal with this one I suppose. Ordered from NY. If anyone has a minty original with just the shark mouth, I'd be happy to trade though.
  9. Oh, yes, don't worry, there will definitely be stops for those wingtips, because they're not supposed to fold out any further than when they're properly angled. I think that missile pylon is even attached to the folding portion, so it may act as the stopper.
  10. Big difference between these folding wings, and something like the Sv-51 or YF-21... those wings were downward folds that had to stayup against gravity. The VF-0D's wingtips fold upwards, and away from gravity, so their weight will help hold them open, if it has any effect on them at all (assuming you don't mount the plane upside down., in which case, you're on your own. )
  11. Yeah, you're not alone, I've never trusted the YF/VF-19 stand adapters at all. They're mounted so far ahead of the CoG, that they really have no chance to support the plane well, and the weak clips just don't hold onto it.
  12. I had to laugh at NY's packaging staff this time. Apparently, they couldn't find an appropriately sized box for my parts, and decided to wedge the super parts box into a cubic shipping box diagonally. I've had to tighten up the engines of every one of my YF-29s though. The forward weight of those packs always winds up making them droop. Usually, I've just added a couple dabs of superglue to the flat face of the wing tip that the engine rotates aganst, but I'll probably avoid that on Ozma due to the dark plastic.
  13. Long as the weapons use the same hardpoints, I dont see any reason why they wouldn't work, even the upper pod mounts on the chest plate. As for the ghost itself... it might still work, but you'll be missing the support it got by wrapping around the tails. The entire thing will be supported by the canards latching under the pods, and those tiny pylons resting on the back plate. What they really need to do is make those pylons snap into the back, instead of just being gravity mounts. Course, we still won't have blue shoulder pods to match, but anyone with a ghost will have at least one unused set of them that could be repainted to match.
  14. True, the old mold was pretty sloppy in some places. It does make me wonder though, whether the issues with that were due to the molds being sloppy and imprecise, or even just bad material science at work. The nose droop is entirely fixable, at least, but the materials used on a good portion of the transformation mechanism parts were the same type that tended to explode catastrophically. The overall shape and proportions never seemed to be a problem, at least, which is a rarity for any valk.
  15. Oh, all I mean is that just because this is made with new molds that have just been tooled by Arcadia, it does not mean that they aren't still in possession of the CAD/CAM models used to produce the original molds for the Yamato VF-0, so unless a part is significantly different for the VF-0D, I suspect they're re-using the old CAD drawings to save on labor. It's the same as making a new run of resin recasts off of a master model. You can tweak the master to make the molds better if you know what to look for, but the basic design is already established. Whatever changes they've made to the internal mechanisms will definitely show, but a very large amount of the parts I see in those shots look identical to the Yamato VF-0, which is perfectly fine, because they really had nothing wrong with them to begin with.
  16. Just because the molds are new doesn't mean the CAD files are. Every picture I've seen looks far too similar to the original to be an entirely new design.
  17. Yeah, I really prefer sticking to HLJ for that reason. Every other site's foreign customer service seems to fal somewhere between "lacking" and "HAHAHAHA SCREW YOU SUCKA!" As far as the molds go, I see almost no difference between this one and the old Yamatos. I really suspect they just tweaked the original CAD models, and made new tooling. The quality might be on an entirely different level, but as someone who will display them in fighter mode anyway, that really doesn't feel like a good reason to re-buy the ones I have. The VF-0 never really had issues with anime magic anyway, and I still think the original mold holds up just fine visually.
  18. Eh, discounts are nice, but for something like this, I'll stick to HLJ, just so I have some recourse if bad things happen. And if they wind up throwing it into a black friday sale, maybe I'll grab a second one. Think one of these will be enough though... I need to stop getting duplicates.
  19. Well, keep in mind, that price probably has tax and such figured into it. Still high, but not quite that much.
  20. Assuming that's not just a photoshop of the old photos, the color looks pretty nice to me. Arm still has that overspray, but the shoulders look like the scratches are gone. Price? Eh, it will be what it will be. I'll get one, and call it a day, since I've pretty much gotten at least one of every valk I like at this point.
  21. Kinda torn about it, but I don't think I'll rebuy the VF-0S/A when/if they get released. As much as a new mold might be higher quality, and more sturdy, I don't think there was anything about the old mold that I disliked, and they work fine as display pieces. Plus, it would mean offloading my originals, and no one's going to want those.
  22. Looks impressive, though I wish someone would go to the effort to make a true sim-style game to that level of detail, instead of more rail-shooters.
  23. The VG wings were also one of the significant nails in the F-14 service life's coffin, from what I recall. Besides all the stresses of carrier operations in general, the entire wing was mounted on a giant bearing, and all the parts within the wing support structure had to absorb stresses and flexing from varying directions. The entire problem of designing a variable geometry wing is kind of an aeroelastic nightmare. VG wings still can and do give some great advantages to certain aircraft, but you pay a very high cost in maintenance and general wear and tear for those benefits, especially on a carrier-based aircraft.
  24. Ugh, don't tempt me to buy another one! I'm saving for Arcadia to make the Supernova ones.
  25. Heh... I preordered two in the hopes that I'll get one functioning one out of the pair. If they're both problem free, I might sell one, but I'm interested to see if I can make the radome removeable.
