  1. Yeah, that's really my biggest concern. It looks great, but my personal experience with Bandai valks has just been much worse than Yamato/Arcadia ones. The reasons for that are mixed, but it's mostly that when a Yamato/Arcadia breaks, I have a pretty good chance of either repairing it, or getting a replacement. On the flipside, the Bandai valks I've gotten with problems? They remain broken or missing pieces, because we can't get replacement parts, and their designs are such that I can't even begin to fix their terrible engineering. It's why I started ordering two of every Bandai valk, so I'd hopefully get one solid one out of the pair. I'm still looking to pick up a second one of these, but I keep missing the narrow purchase windows.
  2. I think he might be referring to the lower triangles, actually. I have an idea of how to make a set of ones that fold down like the Yamato YF-17 instead of Bandai's plastic origami nonsense, but I haven't been able to setup my printer for a while to do any tests, so the idea's been sitting as a doodle.
  3. I will say that just as a personal preference, I don't care about the waist joint at all, and would much rather have a full front gear like the Yamarcadias. But on the flip side of that, Bandai's gear suck anyway, so it's not like I'll be using it.
  4. Looks like they really went crazy with the tiny folding bits to get everything to fit. Looks good overall so far, but I wonder if the nose is going to be stuck up in the air like the old Yammie. Hard to tell from the video, since they don't show much of a side profile (not without a lot of sloppy transformation ). I don't think all of the moving around of the wings will really be necessary, but I imagine they did it to make the steps easier to see for the video. I also found the bending gunpod hilarious. Yeah, that 2 degrees is really gonna fix that droop.
  5. Honestly, I think they severely underscaled the pilots this time around. The old ones didn't look as nice, but they fit much more closely/realistically in the cockpit.

    Hi-Metal R

Also, the hi-metals look a lot more attractive now that the 1/60ths have gone up in price so much. The old pricing just made the 1/100ths harder to sell, especially when you consider that a lot of the Yamato 1/60ths could be found on sale for less than it would cost to get a hi-metal version.
  7. Or a simulation run by one of the Rei clones in an alternate universe...
  8. Honestly, you want to reboot the franchise? Make them the same movie. Humanity builds their first spaceship out of the plentiful captured wreckage from ID4, they name whatever fuel the ships ran on protoculture, and start building fighters with captured technology that wind up resembling transforming spaceships instead of cold-war era fighter planes. They try to launch the big ship and get surprised by a race of aliens who are trying to hunt down and eradicate the race from ID4, and capture their fuel source to use for whatever purposes suit the plot.. cue SDFM-style warp-out sequence, and you're well on your way to repeat most of robotech. You could even cut to the chase, have the flower of life seeding happen as the SDF-1 leaves, and skip the masters saga entirely.
  9. I'd love to order a second, just so I have a backup in case one of them explodes when I open the box.
  10. Yeah, I had absolutely no faith in their ability to make it actually stay level. At least with the Arcadia one, the gunpod looks relatively level in flight, due to having some amount of angle of attack... but that droop just makes the gunpod look impotent.
  11. Supposedly, some of the joints in the arms were changed from pins to screws, but I don't have the old one to compare to.
  12. I had to do that one one of my originals, it shouldn't be too bad to do. Only part that I think is different is that they added screw covers over the screws in the wing pivots. I actually pried mine out specifically because they would stop me from tightening the wings. Rest of the disassembly looks similar to the old VF-0, two screws in the wings, one under the hip bar. That should let you drop the underside of the back, and get to the hip bar. Unless they went nuts with glue, and decided to squish the whole thing together this time.
  13. They haven't painted a single piece of landing gear on any of the 1/60 Macross stuff. Like.. ever. And yet, the Hi-Metals have white gear... hmmmmm.
  14. I can't wait to see what kind of overtechnology they've gotten a hold of that will let that front gear fit between those itty-bitty doors.
  15. They're in there actually, mostly on the bottom rows of the Marine groups, just have to zoom in. They've got so much stuff hanging off them, they look like Cobras now. All the listings mention both the AH-1Z, and UH-1Y.
  16. I was pretty far on the "nope" side of the fence for Battlefront already, with the way EA works to begin with, but they entirely lost me when they announced the pre-order bonuses. Really? You're letting me buy weapon unlocks before even touching the game? Still almost half a year away, and I can smell the cashwhoring already. I get the idea of unlockable weapons and stuff, they were in the original games... but on a life-by-life basis, and awarded for performance, not some BS cash-shop style nonsense where you pay to kill things faster. Maybe someone will patch the new game's content into the old BFII engine...
  17. Same.. given all the tiny folding panels all over the legs, this could be very interesting.
  18. You mean the entire swingbar fell off the backplate, or that the hips detached like we've seen? I think I actually remember this happening to someone before, and it turned out to be really simple; the pin holding the swing bar in was just loose,, and slipped out, letting the bar slip through the back.
  19. I think the 11 is probably one of the best molds Yamato came out with. My only gripes with it are pretty minor.. mostly, the main gear being so short it looks silly, and that I think that the locking tab for the nose section really needed to be beefier.
  20. I know at least one of mine from HLJ has them misaligned, but I'm not all that worried about it. It's going to look really stupid if they don't fix it on the 0A though, because if they don't line up that marking, it might get printed right over the big empty slot in the intake.
  21. Sounds like something about that license was lost in translation somewhere, either on Bandai's end, or Lucasfilm's. If Bandai is under the impression that they'd be allowed to limit an international license to sales inside Japan, someone's contract lawyers might be about to get thrown under a bus. Either that, or there are other licenses for other regions that people don't widely know about yet. But I thought I remembered these Bandai kits showing up at international venues for Star Wars stuff, so I really have no idea what to expect.
  22. I picked up both editions, so I could take a quick comparison of the two over the holiday weekend.
  23. I thought the arms were just large missile launchers? Seems like they would have no trouble operating like the VF-1's super pack launchers.
  24. Might be a silly question, but is there any canon (hah) explanation for how the main guns are supposed to work? They're clearly made up of engine components, and while I can almost imagine the main barrels being a solid propellant booster, does that mean they dont function as engines once they burn out? The animation in Frontier clearly shows exhaust plumes coming from both the barrel nozzles, and the cannon mounts, so I really dont know what's going on. Is the bulk of the thrust supposed to come from the engines on the wings?
  25. Maybe they actually aren't in the way? It's hard to tell, but I seriously doubt you'll get the arms past those without completely detaching the legs. The arms just don't lift that high off the backplate, and it looks like they'll directly interfere with getting the shoulder joints into their recesses. I'll be interested to see how it works. I also wonder why they arent on the 0D though. Those pieces should be identical. I guess I'm just surprised that they suddenly decided that those joints should be covered in fighter. I keep mine in fighter almost exclusively, but I don't think I've ever given a single thought to the backs of the knees being exposed.
