Your most recent Macross or toy purchase! General thread.
Lolicon replied to Gakken85's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
At long last, thanks to a fellow forum member, I finally have one of my most sought after valks! And that canopy! -
Those look surprisingly good! Still need some paint for a few details, but better than I expected. If I had any intention of building all of Delta squadron, I'd pick these up too.
-
The fighters look great. I don't like the fat battroids though.
-
Comparison pics please! Mine's stuck in PW thanks to some delayed releases.

Well, they are 2 different product lines. Of course, if size matters to you (and as well it should!), you can always get the Figuarts Zero Ranka I listed earlier, which should be about the same size as Mirage. I'm willing to bet there will eventually be a larger scale Ichiban Kuji version of Mirage somewhere down the line though.

Still waiting on the Tomytech Delta models to be released before shipping out. We're at the end of August now...
-
It's not prepainted. It's molded in colored plastic parts like a gunpla kit. You'll have to do a lot of painting to make it look like those promo pics. This is what it looks like unpainted: For those that want a Ranka figure like that but don't want to deal with painting, you can always get the Ichiban Kuji or Banpresto completed figures. Usually available for cheap. https://order.mandarake.co.jp/order/detailPage/item?itemCode=1034479042&ref=list

Yeah it's pretty lame. Bandai's Macross kits straddle the line between model and toy, and kinda do a half-assed job at both. About halfway through mine now, working bit by bit when I have time, but so far it's been less unpleasant than the Frontier kits. But that might just be because I'm more experienced with this stuff than I was back then. I've been using the waterslide decals for all the insignias and small markings, and the stickers for all the huge colored areas. Those decals will chip 'n rip when you attempt a transformation, I guarantee it. Serious modelers should just wait for Hasegawa to release a VF-31.
-
Dammit Tomy, release your 31s for this month so I can ship my stuff out!
-
Be careful what you wish for. If demand and sales dip too much, Bandai will simply stop releasing Macross toys, and then we all lose.

I hope Monster pilots are provided adequate ear protection.

This is an amazing forum. I visited the Gundam.com forums many years ago... Now that was a real cesspool.

I use Mr Super Clear (gloss) for protecting any decals I apply and I add a final layer of Mr Hobby Topcoat to even out the finish (gloss or flat, depending on the type of finish I want). However, the Yamato/Arcadia stickers are very durable so you're won't need to worry about damaging them during transformation, and as others have pointed out it's pretty rare for those stickers to curl up or come off once you've applied them. I wouldn't bother unless you just want a uniform finished throughout, then I would just use a layer of topcoat with the desired finish. Just be sure to mask off the canopy, sensors, anything you don't want to alter the finish on.

I'm thinking people are just waiting for the re-release of the VF-1S with super/strike parts this month. I know I am.

There are members of this very forum who have clearly expressed their desire for Arcadia to "go under" and for Bandai to be the only game in town for Macross toys. Whether or not you believe it is up to you, as real research would require reading through years of forum posts, and I don't expect anyone to bother with that. Short version: believe whatever the hell you want.

Aside from never touching it again, your could apply a clear coating just like you would on a model kit to protect decals.

So glad I bought three of them back in the day.
