  1. Great to revisit this. Thanks again Boinger for all your effort.
  2. Ex Machina is definitely the best to date. I'm hoping Deunan kicks ass in this one too...
  3. Yes, what 'climax'? indeed. Although I'm going to have to disagree with you here: This was a really shocking - and effective moment for me. The other nice nod was when you found out the lab was in China. OF COURSE America's new security tech is made in China. I laughed out loud at that! And I do think Haley's character of Mattox was certainly a wasted opportunity. Certainly Kinnaman's Murphy was - as you say - about effective as a block of wood.
  4. The special effects and production design were a standout. And I didn't mind his suit except for the un-helmeted head - I feel Verhoeven's team did the head a lot better. In this one the actor still looked like he was in the suit, with a skullcap on. In Verhoeven's his skin clearly 'ends' and delivers a much better sense of inhumanism.
  5. Here's what I've been up to. This pic is about a month old, so it's almost finished now. Hope to get to do some photography this coming weekend...
  6. Haven't seen one of these for a while. Beautiful work - very clean, with some appropriate shading. Do you use Tamiya paints?
  7. Love this one, and the shark mouth decals. But the Katyusha reference made me smile - very apt!
  8. Won't that be Chappie? Anyway, I'm glad I saw Robocop 2014 but I won't need to see it again - unlike Verhoeven's version which I'm looking forward to watching again soon.
  9. Saw this yesterday. There's actually a lot that the movie does right. The special effects and production design are fantastic. The opening scene - cutting to a middle-east country being patrolled by US drone technology - was awesome. Some of the scenes with Alex Murphy realising what he has become - due to the direction and effects - were awesome. Gary Oldman as Doctor Norton was predictably fantastic, and really the cornerstone of acting in this movie. But this contrasted the issues with the movie. The lead actor, at least for me, had no charisma, and not much in the script to work with either. The actual plot in the last third of the movie seemed aimless, and without immediacy. The social commentary was obvious, and never subtle. There were no connections between the issues at the start of the movie and at the end. Murphy's partner here was unmemorable and could have almost been written out, whereas his partner in the original one was integral to the plot in many ways. The villains in the original were wonderfully evil creations, ultimate corporate villainy and criminality. Here they were completely forgettable. Even Keaton seemed restrained. The original wins hands down. Murphy's transformation was certainly less spectacular in the first but much more emotionally effecting due to the contrast between Murphy before, and Robocop. With the new movie - apart from a key few minutes - there's no such transformation. The Murphy at the beginning is completely the same as the Murphy at the end, except physically. I feel this would have been a better movie if it recast the lead and had absolutely nothing to do with the original - then they could have explored a lot more of the effects of robotics in the world we live in.
  10. Thanks for those images - love those light protectors. I wonder if this PE will be released AFTER WF2014… otherwise I will never see one. I was going to start my Defender soon.
  11. Brett, where did you get the hemispheres from?
  12. Really nice work. Let's see some more!
  13. Thanks for the links. Very interested the PE for the Wave Destroids, but that only looks like it's for the Phalanx. However I can't read Japanese so I could be missing an announcement for the others?
  14. Interesting - that's a Gundam ship isn't it?
  15. As long as they take it back to original Eastman & Laird coolness, I'm okay with that. I have a very emotive attachments to these little guys. When I was an early teen, the Turtles comics had just come out and I collected them as they were issued - not because I wanted to 'collect' them but because I just loved the story and artwork. These four guys could be called 'chaotic lawful' rather than traditionally heroic - usually their stories were about them just trying to survive, rather than be 'heroes'. This really attracted me. About this time my father decided that comics were sinful and I came home after school once to find my entire collection torn up and burnt. You can imagine how I felt. I never really got into the TV show, but I have fond memories of the 4 player stand-up game, and wasn't too disappointed with the first movie, or the more recent 2007 movie, but I've got high hopes for this one. A bit of money behind it and we might get my favourite comic arc - when the turtles accidentally went to the Triceraton home world. That was quite a lot of fun, from memory...
  16. I think you're going to love my current project (almost finished) - a 1/6 scale racing bike. I've never done one before, and it was a lot of fun, if a little frustrating! Probably take some pics next weekend...
  17. Got mine. It's a little smaller than I expected, but it is absolutely gorgeous. No, no, no! The more the merrier! I always love seeing other people's build-ups. I wish there were more...
  18. The ES-11B is a gorgeous kit. You can see my build-up in my signature below.
  19. My dream one day is that FineMolds would tackle a proper 1/72 Shuttle. I'd even settle for a Buran! I've never been happy with the detail of any Shuttle kits...
  20. If you can get hold of it, it's highly recommended. Unfortunately my local hobby stores (all two of them!) never seem to carry it.
  21. One of the mistakes people make (especially beginners) is not letting the paint dry before putting on another coat. With a quick-drying paint like Tamiya acrylics, many people have a tendency to paint the area, then immediately load some more paint onto the brush to go over the area again to fill in the spots the paint didn't quite cover. This is a mistake. Tamiya acrylics dry so quickly, that you are likely to have one area congealing whilst your are blending in with more paint. This will create an uneven surface finish. The best finish will be gained by painting a single area with ONE STROKE - don't even go over it a second time with the same loaded brush! Let it dry for 15-30 mins before you go over it again. It will probably be touch-dry in a few minutes, depending on a number of factors, but be sure to let it fully dry before you go over it again. Three thinner coats of Tamiya acrylic over a couple of hours will provide a much, much better finish than trying to load your brush up with paint and going over the same area a few times to 'do it all in one go'. Even better: thin Tamiya down a little before you paint, and be prepared to do a couple of coats. Have patience between coats and you will produce a better result with your hand painting.
