  1. Thanks for all the kind words - I must say I do find it hard to build stock kits with stock finishes. But I'd love to build an injection-molded kit again soon, it can be quite frustrating building an old resin kit where you're accurate, but the kit is not...
  2. Thanks Roman - and sharp eyes there! I made a custom canopy for the Milia version, since the canopy I received in the kit was not really usable.
  3. Perhaps you missed this thread - 1:72 VF-4 Milia Racer Custom
  4. Yes, I would certainly be interested...
  5. It's been over fifteen years since I've done a commission (they helped put me through university back in the day) so it was with some trepidation I undertook a very special request from a member on this board - a pair of VF-4s! One was to be Skull Squadron battlewagon we're all familiar with, and the other a souped-up Max version with custom decals, weapons and other accessories. Presented here are the two results - built from the resin kit that has been offered here a couple of times. I do like the kit - it's a relatively easy build, but it may be beginning to show it's age as there aren't many straight lines and symmetry is a challenge. Never the less I'm pretty happy with the overall result and the client is as well - he's graciously allowed me to post these pics up for you enjoyment. As of now these birds are very securely packed away to be sent off. I will be sad to see them go. I couldn't resist putting Max and Miriya together in one bonus shot. Thanks for looking!
  6. That is absolutely gorgeous, nicely done. Looks almost 'too much' like a tomcat now though!
  7. I just watched Oblivion again, since I saw it at the movies. I enjoyed it even more the second time. The design work is beautiful.
  8. Sorry not yet. But I DO have 2 new Macross birds finished. I hope to put pics up over the weekend.
  9. Can't wait to see this. Looks like world-building on a big scale, which is right up my alley!
  10. That last pic is so awesome. I think the Swifts no longer exist though…
  11. Looks fantastic Exo. Nicely done!
  12. It is fantastic. I'm going to have to give something like this a go one day soon.
  13. Loved the series from the first one. Each new movie felt like 'oh they just managed to squeeze this past the studio management', and I felt lucky for it. Paul's best performance in them was probably in 'Fast Five', which for me is my favourite movie in the series. The ex-cop, on the run and out of his depth, broody with conflicted feelings about his impending fatherhood brought a bit of grounding to his character. I was looking forward to Lucas Black's character making a return in this one, I hope they find a way to continue the series. Vale, Paul Walker.
  14. Really nice work there. You even tell a story which many diorama builder forget to do.
  15. This is not 'quite' right. You can use lacquers over acrylic, you just need to seal your acrylics, and go with very light coats on the lacquer, and - importantly - have done plenty of TESTS beforehand. While it is easy to wreck your work using lacquer over acrylic, if you know what you're doing it can be done. I've never had lacquers destroy decals. If you want to see what lacquer over acrylic looks like, take a look at the VF-2 in my signature.
  16. If Rob Cohen's name is on the movie, it usually means I will enjoy it. Should I feel guilty for this? I haven't seen Alex Cross yet though...
  17. Captain, the putty you use, is it still just two part polyester car stuff? Beautiful work, by the way.
  18. I have another VF-2SS ready to go sometime in the next 12 months. I have a colour scheme I have been planning for a long time. It's a beautiful design, my preferred evolution of the VF line to the VF-25
  19. If you can find it - and you use an airbrush - this is awesome stuff: J.W. etc.'s Right Step Water Base Clear Varnish - MATT It's CHEAP! It's effective and it covers anything! The above link is not where I bought mine from - I got it from a local hobby store. It's a clear acrylic cover - it's pretty inert. I use it for both acrylic and laquer-based paints. Basically I use it for a flat finish on all my work. I could only get it in a half-liter size which cost me around 10 dollars. I think it will last me for the span of my natural life!
  20. Thank you Boinger, great interview, and great resource! All you effort (and John's of course) very much appreciated.
  21. I have personally had problems with Mr Surfacer lifting on a couple of resin kits. I tested on the same kit with Tamiya Fine Grey Primer (now my favourite) and I did not experience the same issue. Mr Surfacer has a nice velvety finish, but after my bad experience with it, I've given it a miss.
  22. Thank you for that. I haven't seen any of Sparrow's stuff for awhile. Not disappointed!
  23. I hadn't seen EXCALIBUR for over 20 years and just started rewatching it yesterday. Although there have been some good scenes so far, I think it's aged poorly to be honest and Nigel Terry not the best Arthur I could imagine. Having said this Gabriel Byrne's role as Uther is certainly memorable, although sex in a suit of armour was sure to be quite frustrating! I'm looking forward to watching the rest of it though. I think the original 'Le Morte d'Arthur' is ready for a new film. I'd love to see a serious take on it, full of tragedy, blood, celtic magic, and with some great 'unknown' actors in meaty roles. I know over the last decade or two we've had a couple of takes on the subject but they never felt like they drew from the original poem much. The one with Clive as Arthur felt like it was telling a completely different story, and older one with Sean Connery was very forgettable. I think it's time for a nice big juicy production!
