Well - she's a lovely girl - that's for sure. Stunningly beautiful. But she was posed all wrong for Misa. And still would liek to give some body to that hair. It's cut too short to me so "straight" - needs to be thinkened up a bit or she needs to have some extensions done. Also - she needs a new photographer. I mean - that's some really great material and the photographer is sooo not doing her justice. Heck, even her 'Marylin Manson' companion has been massacred by the photographer - the light is all wrong on MM's face; thus the impression. Fire the photographer and get a stylist who will do wonders with your hair and away we go. PM me - I can do it EDIT: Oh - and either the light is bad, or I'd also toss her into one of those tanning machines or get the girl into the sun for a while. Pete

I've decided to open this thread here rather than in the toys or TV thread because "interest in Macross" is a very broad category encompassing but not exclussive to toys, models, tv, ovas, film, manga - and I want people to respond with reference to everything and anything about Macross that they enjoy. So - I don't want this thread to just be limited to, say, TV show enthusiasts, or toy collectors or modelers. The reason I opened the thread was because I think it's an interesting question - how long can a franchise hold your interest? There have been franchises out there - Star Wars, Spider Man (just to name two) which have grown into such cult classics that it is almost inconcievable that they can die off. There are, however, other franchises which, in my opinion, are shedding relevence (surprisingly I would say Transformers) for a variety of reasons. Just to be clear OF COURSE I LOVE MACROSS. The thread is not meant to incite any type of antipathy for Macross, nor am I opening it because I think that Macross will necessarily "die out" eventually, nor do I hope for that to happen. I am, however, curious - what would have to happen for you to loose interest? What pitfalls do you fear taking place that would make you feel that Macross is going down the drain? To give an example - I used to be a BIG TIME Transformers collector and fan. I still am - but I am a fan "stuck" in the G1 through Beast Wars era. The 80s and the 90s were basically my golden time for Transformers. The first chink in my fanboyism came with the Dreamwave G1 comics, which were aweful (art and story wise) - but then again Dreamwave also brought on Simon Furman and produced Warwithin which was a saving grace. But I guess what really did me in was the horrible Unicron Trilogy - year and gutt pounding year of drivel (from my point of view). I understand that some kids - not my generation - can now say they grew up on this stuff - but it's just not my stuff. Probably the biggest sticking point that did me in was the tendency to completely revamp and reboot the series year after year - no continuity - just a general archetype for plot and characters which kept getting repackaged into new series. I will always be a fan of the original Marvel comics and the G1 cartoon. I enjoy the live action movie, but no longer enjoy the toys really and in my old age (30), I've found that my greatest pleasure comes from Encore, TFC - basically just the bare bones roots from my childhood - as well as BW II and Neo. As for Macross - One of the biggest saving graces of the Macross universe is the continuity between series and movies. Even if it's sometimes kind of contrived (oh, DYRL is a documentary within the SDFM TV universe or "DYRL is the way they look/SDFM TV is what actually happened), and even though some elements of that plot have been better and others poorer - it really does warm my heart that the story has a wholistic sense to it. So - first thing that would begin the process of turning me away from Macross is if we ever got a Macross REBOOT. I would hate that. I would be sadened. I would really be unhappy. If anything, consecutive Macross series have shown that this is a story that can introduce fresh concepts and ideas without retconing and negating the past achievements before it. So - Warning Sign Number 1: Macross Reboot/"fresh start" series or OVA which just discards what came before. What else? Well - ok - sorry to say this (and not meaning to spark a debate on this subject but it did influence me a little...I know it's a discussion meant for toys but...) : Bandai producing Macross Frontier DXs. Now - I am holding out hope that the Armored Ozma will somehow be better than the first edition, and I do admit that Michael and Luca look better than I thought - but still - overall - compared to Yamato - I'm just dissapointed. Yeah, the 1/72s are the saving graces, but nothing beats a good chogokin. And since collecting figures and toys is so important to me - it is a big turn down that my favorite Macross Frontier stuff is...not desirable to me. This doesn't mean I'm "quiting Macross" or "turning my back" - but it certainly is a factor in my enthusiasm for Frontier kind of waning. Yamato coming out with the v.2 1/60s has just made me sorry they didn't get the license for the 25s...and in future - if Macross continues to be produced by Bandai, I fear that this might adversely affect the franchise because - ok - fine - ONE series of 25s and 27s from MF by Bandai won't kill things...but if the future of Macross toys is going to look like the DX and Yamato is just going to be improving the VF-1 for the rest of eternity - then this might have some negative consequences. What else? Off the top of my head - those are the two big things that might eventually make me shrug my shoulders at future Macross endeavors. What about you guys? What are your fears? What do you think needs to be avoided? Pete

Happy to see the VT-1 finally has a release date. Pete

How many people played the Paladium role playing games? That is the only ONE AND ONLY fond memory I have of "Robotech" - but that's mainly because it had nothing to do with Robotech as such; we just essentially flew Valkyrie around and fought Zendradi and stuff. I remember I threw a Zentran brain at a flashing red light which turned out to be a nuclear bomb. The dice said that all my friend sustained heavy damage while my Monster got away scott free Nya nya Pete

Comic Book guy was classic Nitpicking is fun, but only while eating Doritos. There are no Doritos in Poland. Maybe somebody can send me a case? Pete -
I saw the figures before, never seen the anime. Don't like the designs. But generally have nothing against the concept. Pete

Heh Dude 1: "Here is my brilliant invention which will bring joy and happiness to the universe. Dude 2: "Holy cow! That is awesome! I'll give you a million dollars for it!" Dude 1: "Sorry, but only on Sundays." Dude 2: "Huh? What Sunday? I'll give you a million dollars!!" Dude 1: "Here is another invention of mine - it cures cancer." Good job - very nice art! Pete

has anyone ever made a REAL transformers skyfire toy?
VFTF1 replied to pondo's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I guess if you want super duper accuracy you're going to have to hold out for an MP Jetfire/Skyfire. Pete -
I came. I saw. I scratched my head. It's not a bad figure; I guess I just haven't ever heard of this anime up to now. That and I was eating noodles, and spreading pepper over them by hand, and I still had some pepper on my finger and now it ended up up my nose - so I'm high on pepper... you get this wierd tingling sensation... Anyways - I will be curious to see this in color. And...um...what does it "do" ? Pete

If there was a live concert who would you see? *poll*
VFTF1 replied to Vepariga's topic in Movies and TV Series
There should also be some options for diversification - for example: Top Choice for Singing while giving me a lap dance: SHERYL Top Choice for Singing to me on a sunny day in the park: RANKA Top Choice for Singing to me in bed: Minmey Top Choice for Singing to me in the shower; Basara Wait... Poor Gubaba. Your attempts at irony are going completely unnoticed Pete (unable to vote because he'd dish out money to see more than just one) -
The YF-19 has no production issues. The first run of the normal color had crooked gun pods - but far as I can tell everything since then, including the 25th anniversary has been flawless. The Shin with Ghost is a case of hit or miss. I went through a couple of them before finally getting one that DIDN'T have exploding arms, feet that crack and other problems. Pete

Heh I remember when, about ...what?...8 years ago?...I order PVC MEGA Hotrod and Megatron from them. To this day I have NEVER gotten them But I forgive them Pete

All very cute girls - but none of them scream Misa to me. And Honeybunny just doesn't do enough with her (very beatiful) face as either Misa or Sheryl. Mind you - I'm not trying to be negative - I think it's great that there are beautiful women who dress up like this - so I don't want anybody to think that I'm just being a whiny beach or something. The thing is - if I were helping these girls get into character, I would do something about their hair - and the facial expressions they take. Sheryl has an "I eat men for breakfast" expression - and Honeybunny just has an "I am Honeybunny" expression - so either we need some make up on those eyes to make them more demure, or we need to stand in front of a mirror experimenting with various alluring facial expressions. As for Misa - the hair is all wrong. First of all - if you're going to have SDFM TV uniform - then you need to have SDFM TV hair. She has something which can remotely be called DYRL hair - although it's too short even for that. The next two girls are much better Misas insofar as they look bored, dissapointed, and like they haven't had a man in 2 years: which is exactly the kind of attitude that Misa needs to convey and which is part of her sexual allure. But again - I'm not trying to be down on these girls - I know that there's a TON of effort that goes into making these suits and taking the time to cosplay is a sign of being a true loving fan. And finally - no doubt I'd be happy to have a honey like any of them Just some "constructive criticism" Pete
-
The plot thickens ! Also - we now have a basis upon which to conclude that the budding Ranka/Sheryl relationship is an homage to the attempted lesbianism of Macross 7 Yay. In this context, DYRL looks so innocent, with Minmey and Misa giving eachother a smile, a womanly giggle and a little wave Ahh...for the times when THAT was considered racy Pete

Sorry to post just this question here - but I did a search - both in this thread and in the Hall of Super Topics, and I can't find the Strike a Pose v.2.0 thread. I need it because a while ago my laptop crashed on me and I lost all my lovely valkyrie+anime girl pictures that were posted there and wanted to recover them. Would appreciate if someone helped me with a link to the old thread. Thanks, Pete EDIT: Found it. It just had a completely different name from "strike a pose" - thanks.

Fine. If we're going old skool then here's some more: The first time I actually find Milia attractive Pete

Grace will sing? I'll be right back as soon as I read the previous page - for now I just wanted to align our Minmeys... Pete (returning with on-Topic edit in a few seconds) EDIT: Oh my. Well - I guess those two were made for eachother.
-
That's good to hear. As for Henkei Galvatron - if they'd made him an Ultra, like they were apparently planning to in the beginning - or a Voyager class at least, then he probably would have been great. As a deluxe he sux. Delux sux. heh I be poetical Pete
-
I'm just going off of Hikaru's reaction. "Obasa" When I look at that girl - I don't think "Obasa." When I look at my girlfriend, I think "Obasa" Misa cosplay girls always need to be older relative to me Pete
-
Dagnabit! I keep trying (and failing) to post something right after Gubaba. I want to see whether his Minmey top avatar will align with my Minmey Bottom avatar And just to come back on topic: Cutting Alto is - sorry to be so harsh - but really a ridiculous notion. The only time we've had a pro-active male lead was Macross 7 and people hated it. Alto goes back to the tradition of a passive male lead a la Hikaru - and people want to cut him? I think sub-consciously they really just want to cut his hair Personally - I like him the way he is. And his story is cool too. Pete
-
You mean people like Alto? 'Cause - you know - the one guy Sheryl actually loves ISN'T a Sheryl fanboy. There's a lesson to be learned there Pete

The Transformers 2 Thread--A Michael Bay thread
VFTF1 replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah; I have no doubt the movie will be great. But just thinking about those ugly toys gets me depressed Pete -
Welcome Vepariga. Lost of Misa lovers here - but that one is too young to be Misa; and the provocative alluring pose is so not her What we need is for the MILFs to step up to the plate and cosplay Misa Either that or the hot 30 something accountants Pete
-
That's because people can't get beyond the notion of a monogomous sexual relationship between one man and one woman and see the benefits of a threesome, which is the moral of Macross Frontier. Pete
