  1. Answer is simple: Because if it was Ryan, then Ryan broke the rules in a big way. If he can do it, why can't other people? If we can suddenly say that this particular rule is silly and not that big a deal, then why can't other people say that about other rules - about all the rules? I would also like to see Ryan come back to MW - mainly because it seems to me that he loves Macross and therefore it is natural that he should want to hang out with people who share the same love of Macross. However, I would also like to see Ryan be equally cool in his approach as DND and MM are in approaching his ban. Namely - Ryan - since this is no big deal and petty - why not also just apologize to the mods for the initial infraction, acknowledge some peoples' complaints, and also apologize for the multi-user accounts? However- Ryan could have done this ages ago yet he keeps creating new user accounts to get around the ban. So - who's making a haystack out of one little strand of hay? Not the mods. Not any members that might have considered Ryan's posts to be spam - but Ryan himself who rather than just sit out his 3 day temp ban or ask via email for members to petition for his return following his perma-ban has flipantly created multiple accounts to post in disregard of the people who run the site and do the work to keep it running. Bad form. Pete
  2. Good news this. But, correct me if I'm wrong...they flew a VF-1D? I can't remember what they flew, but I thought it was...grey?...I dunno... Pete
  3. Thanks for the cheeriness guys As someone in the GundPla thread noted, my model building methodology can be termed as "ghetto" I am doing my best here - but I'm lazy and stingy. Anyways - today, I used a permanent black marker to "paint" the cock-pit hatch so it wouldn't be all clear plastic.... doesn't look too bad IMO. It's my first time "painting" or using a marker on a model... I'm planning on building two VF-25S models. One of them will be a "regular" Ozma; the other I'm planning on doing with Sheryl Nome decals Counter-intuitive? Perhaps? But ultimately I have a feeling that, just like Roy demonstrated what "hug" meant in DYRL by grabbing Minmey, that Ozma would most likely grab Sheryl Ranka is his little sister and he wants to protect her, but deep in his heart, he's a Sheryl fan Pete
  4. Hopefully commercially available Meanwhile, progress is made... Hamlet Machine Pete
  5. Well - as usual I'm late to the party - but I AM drinking: Work in Progress Very impressive. Almost scary. Thank goodness I've built a couple MG Gundam kits and some other Bandai stuff before hand...otherwise it would be overwhelming - but this - this is fun Pete
  6. We had a similar case on one of our local Transformers boards here in Poland. Except the "culprit" who pissed off the mods and couldn't stand his 3 day ban, so kept making new accounts and digging himself a deeper hole was 13 years old... Message to Ryan: creating new user accounts to get around temp bans results in perma-bans. Creating new-user accounts to get around perma-bans reminds mods why they banned you in the first place. Creating yet ANOTHER new-user account to get around yet another perma-ban continues to erode memories like "Ryna is a nice guy who is dedicated to Macross" and creates new memories like "Ryan is that guy who thinks he's better than the rest of us and can ignore mods and rules" Being rebellious in the face of opression is cool. Being rebellious in the face of the mundane is ridiculous. Persisting in rebellion in the face of the mundane is laughable. I think what might have ticked off the mods was also the fact that while numerous folks (myself included) initially wrote posts in defense of Ryan with calm arguments, Ryan just insulted the mods and called them names. In any event - some of us hang out in only a few select threads mainly. So I remember when the mods in the toy thread gave a warning to Ryan, I was like "huh? why?" - and got PMed with long letters meticulously demonstrating that Ryan had been warned in other threads where I am not a frequent guest. Anyways - to make a long story short - dude - this is ridiculous. I am sure that many of us here would like to change something minor in our favor but the whole point of playing together is that we agree to somtimes compromise and are respectful of the people we are playing with. That's kind of the stuff they teach in kindergarten - first and second grade. What possible point did creating FIVE seperate user accounts have? I personally can't stand crap like this. It's totally unnecessary. Instead of five user accounts, you could have written five letters to the mods or something. Or written to any of us asking to maybe start a thread trying to get you un-banned or to write PMs to the mods to try and see what could be done about it. There were numerous ways to proceed. The one you chose was the worse Pete
  7. Laugh with your wife and relax. How many of us here are grown men who have dolls? I've got Lyn Minmey, Tosaka Rhin, Yotsuba, Rei Ayanami, Asuka Langley, Yoko Ritner...just to name a couple. In the future, I am planning on expanding my collection to My Little Poney. This doesn't mean I'm any less manly. In fact - look at the majority of anime - there's always mecha, warfare, fahion and gossip - a mix of manly and feminine. Ignore the clap-trap about definitions of sex, sexuality and sex roles. Children and curious little things who have yet to develop analytical faculties that would even come close to understanding complex issues of gender, gender roles and the like. It's kind of like children and religion. To truly understand religion, you need excellent math skills. The vast majority of serious theologians, priests, saints and what not were highly educated and mathemtatics, as an intricate understanding of abstractions, was one of the most important instruments with which they attempted to better understand their religious faiths. Some people seem to believe, however, that little kids who can hardly add and substract are supposed to REALLY have an understanding of God and the Universe. In fact - the best they can do is repeat what someone else tells them to say, and go through motions and maybe have a blurry image of a deity that they quickly conclude is ridiculous. It's the same with gender roles and sexuality. Children can't understand this stuff and won't for a long time - just because you do, and you stress abotu it - doesn't mean your kid needs to. Think of it this way: If your kid wanted to dress up as Batman or Spiderman - would you be fearful that they were gay for wanting to parade around in a skin-tight outfit? Because Batman is camp? The fact, of course, is that the majority of superheroes have skin tight outfits because those outfits were developed out of artistic necessity - comes had to be drawn quickly and the outfits couldn't be too complex. Marvel especially focused on making them skin tight so that the artist need only basically pencil human anatomy and then make cosmetic additions to it to make it look like an "outfit" rather than spending huge amounts of time on more detailed costumes. It might just be that your kid says "daddy get me X" without really wanting it but rather on the basis of the commercial. Tomorrow they'll be advertising something else and he'll want that too. If he's really fixated on sailor moon - maybe you can get your wife to dress up as sailor moon to show him that the outfit is made for girls. But I'd still get him the dolls if he wants them. Nothing wrong about a kid playing with dolls In any event - don't worry. And yay Sailor Moon! Pete EDIT: Pete just notices now that the question was asked 6 years ago. Oh well...
  8. Well - what would be the point of making us wait to hear that Yamato DOESN'T have the license? I see Basara in the future. Look at it this way: What else are they going to do? I mean - Macross Zero only has the OD - that's it. They could re-tool and renew some of their other products, but they need to do something "totally new" as well. Macross 7 would make perfect sense. Can't wait for Mylene's valkyrie Pete
  9. Interesting how I think that the biggest design differences seem to be with the 1A between TV and DYRL... In any event - I'm in for a TV Max... even though...I'm...starting to love DYRL more and more... damn! I might just have to break for a 1S Max as well after re-watching that ace confrontation between him and Myria Pete
  10. Nice one Ghost Train. I'm thinking of building a bunch of HG UC kits - to get the basic MSG crew down... but first...must do Ozma...uhh... Model building is like a full time job! Pete
  11. Ok - the fact that there are people on Earth who write this means I'm getting really REALLY old! To me, Megatron as a Walther P-38 is as self-evident as Pamela Anderson as a sex symbol. It's like - the sky is blue or something I could not imagine anybody actually "forgetting" this Not that I'm bashing on you - so don't take it that way - but I'm just curious - how did you forget? Were you a kid when G1 aired, or did you get into TFs later with BW or the Unicron trilogy or something else? Pete
  12. What improvements from the others? There's a whole thread dedicated to Yamato's pricing with 15 pages of more of innuendo, guess work and posturing in the guise of analysis. Just do a search Pete
  13. Macross World - the place where: a) If Yamato is releasing products back to back as fast as possible (v.2 vf-1) people scream and complain that they want Yamato to slow down the pace so they can collect up some money. b) If Yamato slows down the pace and delays the VF-11B to give people breathing room, people scream and complain that Yamato better get to work and get in gear and what's the hold up and why the delay? and where's the 11B already? Gotta love it Pete
  14. Yeah - actually, this leads me to something I was always wanting to see - namely a Macross story centered around people who STAYED on Earth - and the reasons why? Ultimately, if you look at Macross Plus, it turns out that Eden is basically like a small town and getting a gig in the "big city" means going to Earth - Earth clearly had great importance, and while some of it was likely symbolic, it had to also be on account of technological progress. Remember - the Factory Satelite orbited Earth - that thing could easily have been geared at some later stage towards mass production of earth-based cities. If we presume that the Megaroads all had elaborate cities in them - which they did - then why wouldn't the factory satelite also be able to produce those cities on Earth - for Earth based use? Finally - apocalyptic nuclear holocaust or not - people are still going to want to have sex Pete
  15. This is a discussion where it becomes very easy to get side-tracked and led astray by the fallacy that statistics on the quantity of people and the space available have all the answers. The entire city is rebuilt for the same reason that Minmey's aunt and uncle re-open the Nian Nian restaurant. Why shouldn't they? Don't people need and want chinese take out even on a space ship? Don't they want to go to the movies, take a girl out to a disco etc etc? It is a natural human instinct to pursue happiness; and just because they are on a space ship with limited resources doesn't mean they can't do so. Earth has limited resources and yet look how much marginal productivity there is? Basically - this is not a question of statistics but rather of economics. Human beings would not wish to be simply regimented into dorms and have all of their resources mobilized for war. This is, incidentially, the path that the Zendradi follow. I think that we have to recognize that it's what's in the Macross's legs that gives it its' power. And it's the possibility of something like that existing that gives humans their power. Nothing far fetched or magical about this. Pete
  16. Can you post some battroid mode pics of that YF-23? Oh wait... Pete
  17. Superion parts for...whom? For the G1 Arielbots? Pete
  18. It's amusing how the 1:60 YF-19 has aged judging by the many negative comments it is getting in this thread. I personally think it's a very good Valkyrie. It was my first ever "big money" (aka over 200 usd) mecha purchase. It's basically the mecha that got me into serious high-end collecting and led me to ultimately open a store selling this stuff. So - in a sense - I'll never forget how blown over I was by the YF-19 1:60 when I saw it; let alone when I got it. It's been all up hill since then. I don't see any need to radically alter the sculpt. Although they could make improvements for a VF-19 Fire Vakyrie... I guess... Still - don't be too rough on the 19 guys Pete
  19. Logical, but Bandai's VF-25 was made more than a decade after Yamato's 1:72 YF-19 -and yet the Bandai VF-25 looks like something that came out of that era in terms of sculpt and finish. Pete (who is about to start assembling his 1:72 Ozma from Bandai - which seems really beautiful)
  20. Looks like this'll be the first item I get from Fansproject - maybe... Although it would suck if a couple months later Takara-Tomy came out with one Pete
  21. I generally tend to agree that there are just as many good and bad robots in both Japanese and American culture... Also - It is worth pointing out that often times the robots in Japanese culture are neither good or bad - they have pilots who are complex. I mean - not all the Gundam pilots have been without fault; same for most every other mecha pilot. And often times the "bad guy" mecha would turn good or there would be moral equivalence between them (remember the Zaku pilot with his own island?) In any event - I don't think this is an issue... unless somebody did some hard statistics showing that a significant percentage of American robots are "evil" or something... Pete

    Passing the torch

Congrats Just don't sell your collection! Life is funny. Everybody has an unexpected path. I was completely broadsided by my current relationship. I had just ended a relationship with a girl that I thought I really loved and was totally down in the dumps about it. My friends tried to cheer me up with booze, and as the years went by, the alcohol consumption went up. I always told myself I'd eventually "get out of it" and "cheer up" and "go look for a good woman." Never would have expected that in my state of total drunkeness (being hung over the next morning was usually a sign of moderation in drinking, since I would usually drink so much that I'd wake up drunk the next day and sober up around 4 or 5 in the afternoon) - suddenly a girl would come into my life and fall in love with me Just wait dude. The more we try to plan these things, the more depressing it becomes. A girl that loves you will come along and the best thing about it is you don't even have to "try" - because she's love you for being as you are - with the good and the bad. That's sweet - and it's probably one of the best things about having a son instead of a daughter. My step-daughter probably brings her mom a lot more "womanly pride moments" than she brings me "manly pride moments" for obvious reasons Still - kids are great fun Pete
  23. I take it this would be a bad time to break out the spoiler screen-cap from the "Director's Cut" version of SDFM TV that is coming on DVD this June? Somebody on another forum did a translation of some of Kawamori's Director's Commentary to this scene - which got cut along with several others which have now been restored: "It has been said that I envisioned the bridge to be all woman. But no. I wanted the bridge to be all transexuals. Bridge Bunnies and Misa are men who dress like women. In climactic scene, Misa reveals to Hikaru that she is really Suzuki. But, studio said no. Now - when people are more open minded, the scenes can be restored to SDFM and the series can be shown as it was envisioned. Sadly, when DYRL was made, this idea of transgender Misa was not permitted because of success of real-female Misa. This is why I always repeat that story line of SDFM TV is true story... DYRL is just a documentary..." Pete
  24. In the end - time wastes us. I personally dread this thread. It's probably the most difficult thread for me to get into on all of MW... Still, sometimes it gets interesting and the subject IS important. Pete
  25. All of them look great except 05. I'm still sticking to my SOC SPEC classic series EVAs though... Pete
