Hey, correct me if I'm wrong - but aren't you taken? I can date her I'm not married Pete

Dag. I need to start a cosplay bar or something. Only people dressed up as anime characters can enter. And the music... Kareoke nights with Basara... Dreeammy These girls are inspiring If beautiful women take the time to dress up as Sheryl Nome, then CLEARLY there's gotta be something good about our hobby When's the last time you saw babes like this dressing up as Optimus Prime or Scarlet or Bat girl? Then again, since this is the internet, maybe I shouldn't ask...I suspect I'll be flooded with a ton of hot Bat girls in a moment... Pete

Hey - stop giving concrete examples from the actual work that undermine my fantastic narrative Pete

Naturally - this is all speculation - BUT speculation (and ass) is all I live for so: I think it was inevitable that Mao would become a cold hearted bitch and I think that it was inevitable in her character arc as started in Macross Zero that she would become involved in what essentially amounts to a freakish 'Frankenstein' like scientific venture which ended tragically. Why? Well - Remember the lessons that Sarah taught about the dangers of technology and science - the ones that everyone laughed at her about, but that Shin started to take seriously? Mao was always supposedly more sophisticated than her older sister and she seemed hell bent on breaking the laws and enjoying the wonders of science. However; Sarah's warnings about science and technology were really the Protoculture's warnings to human kind - albeit re-interpreted throughout the ages and ultimately set out as an ancient Mayan religion. Essentially, the Protoculture WANTED scientific progress ("Have Humans learned to travel to the stars?"), but at the same time they hoped for MORAL progress ("Do humans still fight wars?"). Sarah's teachings about science and technology are not - as they often seem to be portrayed by those who listen to her - shallow ramblings or mysticism. Remember that the technology of the Protoculture, which Sarah worships as a religion IS SCIENTIFIC - it is a technology, not magic. Humans just are not advanced enough yet to understand this technology, thus confronted with it, they interpret it through the one medium available to them: RELIGION (which by definition tries to provide supra-natural explanations for phenomena that reason is at a loss to explain). Sarah's moral teaching - I think it could be argued - particularly her moral teaching about Science have all been adopted by the political system on...Macross Frontier. I mean - look at Macross Frontier. The bodies of the dead are recycled into raw materials from which oxygen and other basic nutrients necessary to keep the colony alive are produced. There is ample wildlife on the colony integrated with the city scape; and the city scape is NOT industrial AT ALL. The technological on Frontier is integrated with the natural in recognition of the basic human need for, on the one hand, technological progress which alieviates hardship and is also an expression of creativity, but also on the other hand, for a one-ness with the natural world that restores to humanity its' consciousness of being in the world, rather than the technological escapism whereby man makes his own world (or thinks he does). It is a healthy balance. Unlike Macross Galaxy. Macross Galaxy, where Mao ended up working, is extreme science run amock without even BOTHERING to ask questions of itself. Science, of course, can answer questions about the world, but the scientific method is powerless to answer questions about its' own moral validity, because it sees moral questions as being purely subjective valuations and therefore sees no way to pursue conclusive moral proofs. Science also ignores the pre-modern scientific notion that morality is inconclusive, kind of like people themselves (we never fully know ourselves or others), and therefore it is necessary to philosophize. Rejecting philosophy as a moderate approach to the question of morality, science deems religion as the proper method towards morality; but at the same time sees religion as being un-true, mere mysticism, and - at best - a psychological condition that should be left to psychological inquiry (psychology being the attempt at applying science to the un-scientific realm of human consciousness). In the case of Galaxy; I doubt they were even very consciouss of these problematics - they were just more concerned with pursuing their deluded plans no matter what the cost. Only in the end did all of them realize what a horrible thing they had been pursuing. Sadly, I imagine that Mao - acting off of an inherent desire to rebel against her older sister and somewhat resenting her humble origins as an "island primitive" did everything possible to HIDE these origins and moulded herself into a pure scientific entity. Her only redeeming quality - which might have been able to save her on Galaxy - was her capacity for love - which we saw in regard to Shin. But we saw it when she was young. She quite possibly "out grew" love and became a professional woman (aka stopped being a woman) - and a scientist at that (aka stopped being human insofar as by "became a scientist" I mean "became a radicalized walking calculator"). I guess this is why it was not surprising for me to learn that Mao's fate looked like it did in Frontier. Pete

This is a good point, and it sure takes me back...to...when was it? ... I think 2005 actually... That was when I decided to get some Macross toys. Initially, I was frightened off from inquiring about them by their price. It's kind of like - oh my god - one figure costs how much?... I mean - these were days when 50 bucks was the sort of top tier of high priced goods and could only be justified if the item in question was something like Armada Unicron... But once I got my hand on Yamato products - even "old" yamato products by today's standards - that was it. That was the beginning of the end for Transformers. The thinking was simple: Yeah, sure - these things cost 10 bucks to 15 bucks a pop on average... but hey look - I have like one thousand of them and NONE OF THEM come anywhere close to the detail, sculpt accuracy, and engineering of Yamato. One thousand times 10 or 15 bucks a pop... that's a lot of VF-1s!! So - price, and what is "high priced and not" is always relative - which I "knew" in theory but only really experienced for the first time with these things. Yamatos are NOT expensive for what you get (as long as you get a QC free one). Transformers and other figures ARE expensive given how relatively sloppy they are. My point? I don't know about you guys - but in terms of income mine has been pretty much the same, except for last year when I started my business and basically lived off of rice for a year and did nothing, saw nobody, and basically went to see a movie once every two months.. Now I think (knock on wood) I have money again - or at the very least my cash flow has definitely grown (it's April so I still haven't actually DONE my taxes)... So - for me - it wasn't that now I have "more" money compared to back then - it's rather that because I was introduced to other Japanese robot toys and not only stuck with Transformers, I realized that there's a heck of a lot to choose from and started being more selective in what I wanted to have in my collection. Gundam Show Thread - MSG thru GQuuuuuuX
VFTF1 replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I agree. This is great news. Gundam Unicorn is one of my favorite models. Also, I read somewhere that in the beginning, Tomino envisioned Gundam as being all white, and RX782 was supposed to be all white, but Bandai told them to give it some colors for the kiddies. So, in a sense, I always considered Unicorn Gundam to be kind of "the real" Gundam... Anyways - yeah - even though my knowledge of this genre is weak - I'm happy. Pete- 3823 replies

Actually, we don't know much about her boobs. The angle of the picture leaves much of a mystery on this front. True, if they were Klan boobs, then you could practically fill some buckets of milk with them - but thankfully Nanase does not have cow boobs, but nice proportional albeit slightly larger-than-average boobs. I think we just get this impression of her having humongous boobs because she's around Ranka all the time (who also, mind you, does have boobs). I dunno - I see your point, and yeah; of course this girls boobs could be a tad bigger - but come on - the HAIR is perfect, the GLASSES are awesome, the pose is great, the clothing don't look cheap, and her face and figure are to die for. I give her top ratings anyways Pete

Yeah, I have a saying: "Don't overpay for low quality." In other words - sure - the price of KOs is lower... but you're fooling yourself if you think "wow! KO Gundam X for 50% less than real Gundam X!" Because it just looks the same - it's still an imitation. Only women can get away with buying imitation channel or versache bags - and even then they get ridiculed roundly when found out. Gundam fans buying a KO? Pointless. What are you going to do? Post pics of your KO Perfect Grade Gundam and try to pass it off as the real thing? I can sort of understanding buying it to COMPARE to the real thing - like doing a comparisson gallery. But just getting it - bleh Pete

That would be me But seriously; I know this is a big issue, but I can't be arsed to NOT be a fanboy about it. I have too much to worry about in real life to go and seriously research this issue, so prefer to scream "death to HG!" However - hopefully the fact that I am consciously being a fanboy fanwank counts for something I just like Yamato's Macross valkyries better than what Toynami makes and that's pretty much the extent of the reasoning behind my stance I just hope that the legal wrangling doesn't dry up resources and time to the extent that it actually harms Macross as a whole. I don't know anything about them, but I am prejudiced agaisnt KOs Pete

Ah - that explains it. Just use the stand and stop bumping its' display case. I never stand it in battroid or gerwalk without the stand. It's like the YF-21 - yeah - sure - it can stand by itself - technically - but the reason Yamato provided a stand in the box (unlike with other figures where the stand is optional) is because it's extremely hard to keep it ballanced. And don't bump the stand. I would strongly recommend not using nail polish if the only problem - really - is that you don't use the stand and that you bump the shelf. Pete

Bringing it back to Macross Frontier. I think Gubaba will like this. I do And here's a little bonus - the Cathy is all wrong (too young, no developing wrinkles, bad hair) - but Leon is just too cool not to admire: Pete

Stop bumping her shelf? Pete

Nice pick. That Minmey is the one I like - the dress is so cute and she only wears it at the beginning of SDFM TV...then after a couple of episodes it dissappears for ever. I think its' dissapearance had something to do with my falling in love with Misa so quickly, because later in the series Minmey would just constantly wear some outlandish performance gown that made her look like a 60 year old Opera Diva and not like a hot chick. Misa didn't exactly parade around in Victoria's Secret either, but at least her clothes were not so full of pathos, generally feminine and - towards the end of the series - actuually really cute (my favorite outfit was what she wore to the premiere of Shau Pai Lon). This red dress of Minmey's shows of her great figure and is awesome. It's kind of like Ranka's white dress that she thankfully appeared in numerous occasions in MF. Pete

From the same website: But of course I didnt read it so I'm waiting for someone to kindly clarify In the meanwhile - can some one tell me what "shoo!" means? They shout it every time there's a commercial in the original MSG and I find it very camp and 70s and generally terrific, but I wonder if it has any meaning? Pete- 3823 replies

Out of curiosity - is that an M-14 rifle that she's using? Looks like it - a tad "fatter" than the M-14, but very similar... Pete

The WWE and Pro-Wrestling Thread 2
VFTF1 replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
My girlfriend is wierd. She watched Transformers with me out of sheer courtesy and I can tell she's no dying to see Terminator 4, but will do it out of love for me... BUT... She wants to go see The Wrestler with me?? Because it got an oscar... or something... Women can be so shallow Not to dis the Wrestler, which might just be a great movie - but still... What's worse - when I told her we should watch Rocky because that also got an Oscar, she was like "it did? When?" and I was like "1980 or something" and she was like "no." AKA - no body cares, it's not trendy or in fashion Anyways - wrestling rules. Pete- 715 replies

It is completely obvious that Misa got all the love in that drawing ... great job She looks wonderful. The other girls just don't compare Also - Vanessa looks the most sex-craved - she's really pushing her butt out I'm surprised - but then again - not really - Kimmy and Shammy are probably not as desperate Wonderful contribution Pete

As a retailer myself I would say: no - it's not fraud. If a retailer has a sloppy system - that's not the customer's problem. If the retailer makes a mistake that is for the benefit of the customer, then technically he can "correct" it - but usually it makes good business sense to let the customer walk away with the benefit. After all - the whole point is to get the customer to walk back in tomorrow. Pete
