I'm getting a page not found Pete

Nice to see Revoltech doing more of these. Pete

MP Grimlock is an obvious buy. But so are a number of other SOCs, irrespective of MP Grimlock. I'm now waiting on my Daimos, and will definitely be getting the GX-04S. I saw a review of that Greinder and All Speizer Set a while back and it is awesome. I guess that - aestheticaly speaking - I much prefer the old retro super robots to something like Horse-Man and his rider...sorry...but I forgot their names...Dbogouguler and Ggfrtstpler... ? Pete

The Transformers 2 Thread--A Michael Bay thread
VFTF1 replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Transformers toys get worse and worse as time goes by. That thing is just trash. I don't mind non-anthropomorphic designs, but you need to give us some more detail, something believable, something that isn't goopy. I dunno. I'm un-enthusiastic. Pete -
Oh snap! You're right! So... which 1/100 scale is off-scale? Pete

That's the feeling I get, just judging from all of the model kits that are out there. But since I've only seen about 1/3 of Mobile Suite Gundam, I'm amazed that the original show featured basically one Gundam and some Zakus the whole time and was really pacing itself in terms of introducing new mecha Then again - the little bit of SEED I've seen basically has a gazillion Gundams jumping around as if they were very common, standard issue type of things... Terminator Salvation, colon, Really Long Movie Title
VFTF1 replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah, I would say watch T3. I came into it completely unspoiled and totally didn't expect the ending - even though, in retrospect - it was kind of a foregone conclusion. It's not a bad movie; it's just not ground breaking in what it does. But, I remember that I was at a REALLY rough point in my life when that movie came out - and for better or worse - being able to see Arnie as the Terminator made life easier. I'm really psyched for Terminator Salvation. My girlfriend has never even HEARD of the Terminator. I've decided to show her the original movie and skip T2 and T3 (she's not big on action movies). I told her the first film is a love story. She'll come see Salvation with me when it hits theatres I'm actually more excited about Terminator Salvation than I am about TF2 ... I like what I read about no blue screens and classic hands-on FX - and it's Stan Winston's last big blow out. Cool. Will be epic for sure. Just hope it isn't like Aliens 4. I got that vibe with the somewhat large cast of characters... Please don't be Aliens 4 Pete -
Nice Gundams. Dusty, but nice They wear well... Just out of curiosity - how many Mobile Suits (including Zeon) are there? Are there as many different Gundams as there are Transformers? Pete

I use my real name Well - at least one of them Anyways - back to the nostalgia/chunkies topic. I think that Bandai's 1/55 reissues might have simply fallen victim to the global economic downturn somewhat. I personally would have gotten all of them if not for the credit crunch and the need to prioritize (and it's not just a Yamato vs Bandai thing, but often Bandai vs Bandai as well - aka - there's a whole mess of stuff, SOCs etc that I prefer to get first and the chunkies are somewhere down there on the list)... If money wasn't tight and things weren't so uncertain, I probably would have at least picked up a few of them - out of a sense of collector's curiosity, semi-nostalgia and completist mindset. Also, they were priced kind of high for what they were - relative to the new v.2 1/60s from Yamato - they were expensive. But then again, Encore Transformers are also priced higher than Henkei and the corresponding new lines (like Animated). And Graham's example about his son prefering the newer figures is spot on - I think - insofar as these nostalgia items are really becoming more and more niche than ever before. I think there have been two generations of kids that grew up following out 80s childhoods (for those like me who had childhoods in the 80s) and their nostalgia is 90s and 2000-2009. It's been a LONG time - if you think about it - and there's been a lot of stuff in between. Pete (real name- one of them at least)

I like the middle pic best. The last pic is funny - looks like he's sniffing to check for BO And teh UN Army decals are nifty too. I take it that this fellow is therefore primarily configured to function in Battroid mode? Pete
-
Well - there are women alive with that kind of figure - we just don't see them wearing tight fitting Zentran flight outfits... And it does kind of serve to parody the "big breast" fetish into oblivion... It could also be Klan at age 55. Pete

The toy swapping stories are a great example of how large businesses loose out because their staff don't know apples from oranges... But it's also a sad testimony to the lengths some people will go ... Pete

Yep. Good job Bandai. Pete

The key question is this: When the ARMD ships attach, are they still considered ARMD... or are they now Macross? I think they are now Macross. When your smaller ship attached to a main larger ship, you cede authority. In any event, the real authority behind all of Macross is pretty lasses who sing anyways. Pete

Can you write what item is in your package? Since toys and hobby collectibles like models are not charged with customs in the USA, the only reason they could have had to justify holding your package is one of the following: 1. The item in the package (as defined on the customs form filled in by the sender) is on their list of taxable import goods. 2. The customs form is NOT filled out properly and customs wants you to tell them what's in the box, then open it in front of you to see if you're lying, then determine whether or not it's a taxable good. 3. The item in the package is marked as a collectible good/toy, but customs doesn't believe the declaration and wants you to prove it. Frankly, I've never heard of US customs ever giving anybody flack for an import figure, model or toy - so something is clearly wrong in your case. In Europe and most other countries with VAT taxes, the customs office is a "been there done that" kind of thing. Americans have been free of it for a long time... Here's a tip though: 1) Don't get angry at the fact that it's one big mess - that's how it is. The faster you stop being angry about it, the faster you'll see your stuff. 2) Don't act like they owe you something - you are their slave. Want your stuff? Crawl on all fours until you get it. 3) Don't think too much - at least not until getting your stuff. Just smile and follow orders. In my country, my company uses a Customs Agent so I don't have to deal with them personally. EDIT: PS: Don't bother trying to call them. Get the address and drive there. Be prepared to spend a couple days going back and forth until you figure it out and have to pay them to get your stuff. Good luck. Pete

Re: the whole "I opened thread X which I thought was fine and the mods closed it" thing... Well - the way I see it is that whenever you visit a forum, you got to be prepared for the probability that something you think is cool and fine will get closed. I have also had a couple of threads closed - three in total I think. Really, you shouldn't take it personally when it happens. It's bound to happen to anybody who's an active member on a forum. You can fight and whine about it or just accept it and move on. The majority of times, people and mods find all members funny and cool or at least tolerable. Sometimes things don't click and IMO it's pointless to get all upset and wonder "why" If it's a major infraction that really annoys somebody then eventually that somebody will just go away and find a more hospitable forum to hang out on. If it's minor - and usually it is - then best just let it be and move on. There are, of course, those rare occasions, when the mods just actually do do something tyranical and oppressive, like closing down my Jennier Aniston thread. In those cases it's fully appropriate to call on the high heavens to right wrongs and mend walls or something. But those are rare occasions ;P Pete

i dunno. I think the restrictions are sensible. It helps focus the board. Besides, as a collector and Macross lover, I'm glad I don't have to wade through five thousand similarly titled topics to get to the info I want, and everyone pretty much knows one another here. As for the "elitist" thing - is that necessarily bad? I think it's good. Pete

Iron Man 2 (Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow!)
VFTF1 replied to EXO's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'd watch it if it were anything like Barbed Wire with Pamela Anderson But in general, nothing will ever beat Sasha Cohen's Ali-G spoof of a James Bond movie. He shows only a few minutes of it to a producer, but if you can find the whole thing on Youtube - it is golden. And the girls are hot Pete -

Iron Man 2 (Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow!)
VFTF1 replied to EXO's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
My problem with Scarlet Johaneson is just the opposite. I think she's a fabulous actress. I loved her in Lost in Translation, and I thought she was supreme in Woody Allen's Scoop (great movie, by the way, for anyone who likes her - go check it out!). Sadly, I find her completely unattractive. Now, Iron Man seems to be a movie that could use some attractive girls whose acting skills are not up to par. Que Jennifer Aniston. I'd rather watch her. You know - most of us are old men by now. If there was ever a time in our life when 600 bucks had to be spent for an SDF-1 Macross. It is now. Hopefully, I can convince my girlfriend to buy this for me since it'll probably be out for my 31st birthday. Somehow, I doubt she will though... Pete

The WWE and Pro-Wrestling Thread 2
VFTF1 replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I remember whatching the WWF on tv...on Saturdays I think? Anyways, I remember Hulk Hogan, Sgt. Slaughter, the Million Dollar Man, Andre The Giant, hm... Then, recently there was this Kane and Rock fellow - but I didn't really follow them... I never got the toys though. Hulky wet guys in spandex just didn't cut if for me when stacked up against mutated Turtles or transforming robots Pete- 715 replies

Wait...does that dude transform into a horse? I'm not feeling these guys... I don't like robots who can't sit down because they have forty jagged edges and spikes coming out of them on every side... Pete
