    BUSTED!

I liked the opening theme for Robotech when it was still John Williams' Superman theme.

    BUSTED!

well I guess we all know how you spend your weekends now. (not that we wanted to )
  3. 15,000 YEN. so about $180 US with the current shitty exchange rate. not too bad for a garage kit of that size.
  4. No, not really. I've yet to hear a single convincing argument why the Porsche Cayenne isn't an excelent vehicle other than they typical bawing about how it's not a true Porsche and taints the brand because it's an SUV and not a rear engined sports car.
  5. well, we know that a good chunk of Frontier was written/rewritten by Hiroshi Ohnogi right.
  6. the point you're not getting is that it doesn't matter what HG legally had to include in the credits to Robotech. the point is even if they didn't HAVE to include such credits, it was still a dick move to not acknowledge the source material they're show is built on, and the people who actually did work to make that source material. Regardless of what they were actually required to say about the Respective original shows, it demonstrates that the company producing the new show has some semblance of common decency and respectability when they acknowledge the source material used to make their new show.
  7. You know what they need to do. Make a War of the Worlds squeal where it's turn of the century still, and the martians come back and are now immune to earth bacteria so humans have to use martian technology to fight the aliens with steam-punk mech walkers. That would be so sick. seriously though, I keep watching the trailer for skyline, and I think it would be a million times better if instead of drone fighters and poo fighting the aliens, it was 40 foot tall robots.
  8. Dammit, thanks for reminding me that I've never found scans of this. my doujin holy grail remains undiscovered.
  9. Oh god that's classy.
  10. Wat? Big West endorses ALL OF MACROSS. They own the rights to the franchise, nothing gets produced with the Macross name on it in Japan without Big Wests approval.
  11. I feel like this needs some clarification. in regards to Acrylics vs. Enamels vs. Lacquer: these are the three most common types of paint you'll see/use for models. As a general rule, when you put layers of paint over each other, you want to work from the "hottest" to "coolest" paints. what that means is paints thinned with very strong solvents ("hot") or weak solvents (cool). Generally speaking, lacquer based paints have the strongest solvents, Enamels (which use paint thinner/mineral spirits) are in the middle, and Acrylics (which are thinned with water or rubbing alcohol) are the weakest. The reason you want to avoid putting layers of Lacquer over layers of acrylic is that the stronger solvents in the lacquer can react with the underlying paint and ruin your paint job. That said, there ARE some exceptions. first, Testor's dullcote and there other "lacquer" based clears either aren't really lacquer or are at least much weaker than other brands of lacquer as I've frequently used Dullcote over testors Enamels and never had problems with it. Second. In regard to TS-80; if all you're doing is panel lining and picking out details with your gundam markers, it's ok to apply TS-80 over it. just make sure the paint and panel lines are completely dry (set it aside for a couple days) and apply the TS-80 in light mist coats and it should be fine. The only Flat clear that Tamiya sells in spray can form is TS-80. the only acrylic clear Tamiya sells is X-22, which is a gloss clear in a bottle. you would need to also get Tamiya X-21 flat base and mix up your own flat clear, and you would need to either brush paint it on or get some sort of airbrush setup to spray it on. The only flat clear acrylic spray specifically for modeling that can I can think of is Mr. Topcoat flat. Of course, you can always head to your local hardware store and check out there spray paint section. you should be able to find a Clear acrylic that way (I know Krylon makes one) what ever you do decide to go with, just be sure to use light mist coats and slowly build up the clear layer.
  12. I've never seen, nor even heard of "slight" gundam markers. Basic markers are paint Pens with hard plastic chisel tips a couple of millimeters wide. Weathering Markers are just like the regular markers only in "weathering" colors (i.e. dirt, rust, ash and bare metal colors). there are also some marketed as "ultra fine" tip makers, those are just like the regular makers, except they have fine pointed tips instead of chisel tips. Real touch makers are double ended, felt tipped makers. they're ink instead of paint, and are really only good for panel lining, but they do come in a verity of colors. they also make couple of fine tip gundam markers which are .5mm felt tips pens. they're the best for panel lining but they only come in black, grey and brown. so the gundam marker fin tips and the real touch markers are the best for panel lining and the regular types are the best for detailing. I've never found a copper colored pen.
  13. same argument that never goes anywhere is exactly the same and not going anywhere. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=32754&hl=practicality&st=0 to sum up: No you can't build a giant robot or transforming fighter with modern technologies, and no matter how good technology gets it will never be practical/worth it to build a giant robot or transforming fighter because you could build a conventional tank/Jet/helicopter/any other military vehicle under the sun using the same technology that do the same job better and with less cost per unit. furthermore, Even if you limit it just to a fighter plane with swing down legs or arms, it would still be totally impractical. there are dozens of VTOL methods better than big ass robot legs and what the hell are you ever going to need to pick up with a big ass robot arm on your Mach 2 capable fighter jet?

HGUC NOBLE GUNDAM!!!(Released Date: Jan. 2011, Price: 1575 Yen)
  15. wouldn't 1/72 scale make this thing really tiny?
  16. I love Return of the living dead! honestly, I've read The Walking Dead and I didn't really like it all that much. I don't know why but I don't really care for zombie themed comic books, even though I love zombie movies. so yeah, not a fan of The Walking Dead; definitely a fan of Linnea Quigley though.
  17. I you mean this? but yeah, can we put this up in the emoticon toolbar? also, I love how the IPB 3.0 hides the post options by default, and by love I mean find it really annoying.
  18. Honestly though, Basara isn't the main protagonist; he's barely even a character, He's a plot device. Basara's whole function is to run around singing and initiate interaction/development in and between other characters. The core of the show is still the relationship between Gamlin (the male fighter pilot) and Maylene (the the female singer).
  19. and another thing... The comparison between humans and zentradi in terms of gender roles and gender equality is an interesting one. There's a definite and in all likelihood intentional level of Gender-neutrality depicted in zentradi society that isn't there in human society. The way I see it, the Zentradi's depiction as lacking gender differentiation is meant to illustrate their lack of understanding of emotions, as they do not recognize or understand the emotional differences between men and women. furthermore this is a critical factor as to why they lack concepts of things like love; the don't have love because they have as a society repressed all their emotions.
  20. I think the reason you don't see more evidence of women in important positions throughout macross is because outside of the core cast of characters, the people making the shows just don't give a damn about the background characters and how they're presented. Really, beyond the core group of pilots and the single bridge crew that the show focuses on, none of the officers and crews and pilots we see running around and getting blown up have any meaning or importance other than to fill space behind the main characters. think about it this way. out of the hundreds of ships and thousands of fighters that make up a feet, how many of situations do we actually get to see or hear conclusively whether or not an individual is actually male or female? (hint: not many) Now of course when we do see or hear a pilot or ship captain they're typically male, but that has little to do with purposeful sexism and actively trying to oppress women and enforce conventional gender norms. Really it's because the audience is less likely to pay any notice to/give a sh*t about a male nondescript filler character than a female nondescript filler character. As for the Central cast of characters, the reason we always see male pilots and female singers and the like is because Macross is an extremely formulaic show that Relies on a very specific Collection of archetypal characters. every show is built around having very specific characters interacting in very specific ways, and the show just wouldn't work the same way if you start trying to change that. really that's one of the core problems with macross II. MacII tries to be unique by changing up the established cast lineup, and it ends up falling flat because the emotional connections between the characters aren't there anymore.
  21. I feel like I'm the only person who thinks this but I love the G-armor and the gundam hammer, and dislike the fact that they got cut out of the movie. But whatever, we're getting Turn-A and 0079; and I've finally caved and bought a blu-ray player so I can enjoy some HD goodness.
