  1. Great Mechanics G: 2016 Spring Released: 2016.03.18 Macross/Kawamori Content 6 pgs (all colour!) on Macross Delta, broken down into: 2 pgs: the VF-31 and some generic descriptions/stats, and the basics of the series (Vahl Syndrome, Delta Platoon, etc). - interestingly the drones are referred to as "Multi Drones". The following is interesting: "フォールド波成分の増幅" - Fold Wave Component amplification". 3 pgs: interview with Dir. Kawamori entitled "The Secrets Of The New Aircraft" 1 pg: colouring of Delta Platoon's VF-31 [*note: 4 of those pages can be seen in the screen grabs found in Jefuemon's link in the post just before this one.] Almost all of the associated images have been previously released (shots from the preview episode, the VF-31 squadron colours and VF-31A design from the flyer, etc), but there is an extremely nice and clear image of a Drone/FAST Pack equipped Sv-262. From it, and the accompanying text, I've gleaned the following about drones: - they are 'unmanned aircraft' (text) - have 4x micro-missile launchers. The launchers are a different design than the one's on the VF-31 and other Valkyries, and may fire a larger sized missile. - have a single, high-powered beam gun in the center of their dorsal surface (there is a huge heat sink there. Coupled with the lack of a spent cartridge port...) Alas, it's the same top/front 3/4 view as in all the other released material. So, no clear shots of the rear/bottom, yet. and... near the end of the book, in the B&W Hobby Planet section: 1 pg of Macross stuff (sans 1/6 of the page devoted to a Freddy Mercury station of all things): - Hasegawa 1/72 VF-25G Super Messiah (¥4,000. on sale now) - Hi-Metal R HWR-00-MkII Destroid Monster (¥25,000. planned July release) - Hi-Metal R Guraaji (¥13,000. planned May release) - TomyTech 1/144 VF-1A/S sets (4x. ¥7,300 each. Planned June release) ... and a blurb to check out the latest "Macross Delta" related products, and detailed information at the TomyTech webpage, with a CG image of what appears to be a VF-31 model kit (sorry, no linky. Requires a QR Code reader).
  2. It was in Nagoya, and finished on March 14. Further details: http://macross.jp/news/?id=170
  3. Maybe the radio show is just to show the viewer how 'backwards' the Zolans are? In the sense that the radio show is reinforcing a cultural stereotype or resistance to interracial marriages among the Zolans. Nevertheless, as Kawamori san has repeatedly stated - what you see is a dramatization of the real events. And as dramatizations aren't necessarily always accurate in illustrating their story goals...
  4. The Crystal Skull was at its best when they were on location, doing the period stuff. It was not so good, when they were doing things on set and with CG. Which is probably why it was a lesser Indy film - the whole point of that franchise was to do things old school. It probably didn't help the franchise that Spielberg exercised his Nazi demons in other films. All I can say to the people doing the next film: DO IT ON LOCATION. If you're filming a shot in a desert, go to a desert. If you're doing a scene on the outside of a temple, film it on the outside of a real temple. Ad nauseam.
  5. Uhm... yes, and no. Title: スペースネイビーヤード 宇宙艦船模型電飾モデリングガイド In English: "Space Navy Yard: Spaceship Models Decorative Illumination Modelling Guide Book". It appears to be one of those modelling 'how-to' books, featuring anime and American movie spaceships.
  6. Agreed. I did laugh/snort/chuckle a few times during the preview, but nothing in it really compels me to do more than wait for it to appear on the movie channel. That said, I am interested in one thing: aside from the preview acknowledging the first movie(s?) briefly, will the movie mention them? Go so far as have some of the original Ghostbusters make a cameo appearance? At the very least, the movie has got me asking: how did they deal with ghosts in the intervening 30 years? (Which hits on one of the reasons why I dislike Ghostbusters 2 - sure, they caught all the ghosts in the tri-state area (or wherever), and turned to kids birthday parties to make a living, but what about ghosts farther afield? In other countries? Will this new movie handle those kinds of thoughts in the viewer better?)
  7. Just in looking at the pictures, it begs the question: where are the tanks that appeared in some of the Macross games? E.g. the hovering tanks used by the opponents in Macross Digital Mission VF-X or the tank that the VB-6 steps on in the intro anime for VF-X2?
  8. Looks like whatever was causing the server to be overloaded has died down, and my sites are starting to become available again (connection is slow and occasionally dropping out as I type this). If it is the same as last week, then by Tues., JST, it should be back to normal. Hopefully this weekend server overload isn't the new normal for the current host...
  9. For the past week or two, the host server seems to be really active during the weekends and I, too, keep getting "connection timed out" errors. These past few weekdays, it was working fine.
  10. What they said. Plus, the text in question (Pg 016 of the book) says "(...)「機甲天使ガブリエル」のイメージイラスト。(...)" I trust that you're fluent enough in the ways of the internet to figure out a translation of that line.
  11. Where does that name and designation come from? The only sources I can find for it are both by the same MW member - linking to a personal HP with a URL link that contains "Harmony Gold" [which raises all sorts of alarm bells - even though its in Japanese!].
  12. First time. The closest we ever got was the VF-17 Fighter/Battroid comb set for Macross 7 - which just isn't the same!
  13. Well, I'm happy that we're getting a VF-171. It's a shame that they're going to be out of scale for the VF-25/VF-29 non-transformable fighter kits.
  14. I think it's too early to say that. Who's to say that someone (Arnold) won't come to him with an idea on how to make a lot of money off of the franchise? Personally, I think a Terminator movie directed by Cameron won't be happening at all, unless the Avatar sequels really tank.
  15. The Monster is the only one who's mission role hasn't been largely replaced by Valkyries in-universe (not depunking or disputing the manufacturing/deployment cost discussion with this post). Out of universe, the Monster is probably the only Destroid that everyone really remembers, especially among non-fans! (Ie: Masamune Shirow mentions it in one of his art books).
  16. That's all true, but it's missing my point: the producers are still occasionally giving us brief glimpses of ground forces - and even the ship-based Destroids count, being walkers and all that.
  17. JB0, those are good points. I think it's fairly safe to say that we haven't seen what constitutes ground forces in Macross - simply because the focus is always on the Valkyries, and the stories never get around to making space to tell the story of the ground forces. We do have a few hints here and there (E.g. the Humvee like vehicles in M+), but as long as the story tellers don't feel a need to develop that side of the universe (like they did in SDFM), what we've got so far is more or less what we're going to continue getting. All that said, some of the games based on Macross do flesh things out a bit. Like the hover tanks in VF-X, the Destroids still in use in M+ Game Edition and VF-X2, or the new Destroid design* in Remember Me. One of the common traits among those games (other than reusing existing designs) is the presence of Zentraadi Mobile Weapons (mecha). Which begs the question: to what extent are the ground forces composed of Zentraadi troops and their equipment? * SDR-04 Mk.XV Maverick: http://www.mahq.net/mecha/macross/rememberme/sdr-04.htm
  18. I humbly disagree. I've had kids at my school (Japanese) get sucked into the classic Disney animated films - despite the language barrier (only English) - whereas the same kids (and my own!) are not as interested in the more recent Disney films/Japanese anime. Though everyone, myself included when I was their age, disliked having to sit through the opening credits. But I do agree that it all depends on the content of the story and the viewer (referring tangentially to the first episode of Macross Delta here).
  19. I think Ebert's mentioning of it is worth mentioning: "It's not merely bad; it's unpleasant in a hostile way." And my favourite line from that review: "The director, Roger Christian, has learned from better films that directors sometimes tilt their cameras, but he has not learned why."
  20. Interesting. Alas, one question answered, a new one forms (what does the "literature" position entail...).
  21. I can't say about Macross Delta, but Macross 30 was written by Kodachi Ukyou. A lot of the mythological references in MtR and M30 are due to him. A few months ago I asked the question if Mr. Ukyou was also involved with Delta, but so far I haven't got an answer on that (if so, it would explain a lot of the references).
  22. Ah, yes. Remembered why I wanted to post the timeline linky in the first place (apros for the double post): New Era 0001 - Macross's answer to Gundam's UC; and something that was promptly forgotten by the creative people behind Macross. http://monkeybacon.mywebcommunity.org/Stats/Statistics/Sourcebook/Timeline2012.php#Megaroad
  23. About a week ago, I wanted to post the link to the Macross Timeline that I've cobbled together over the years in a conversation somewhere on MW and... out of the hundreds of pages my current host is making available, it is one of the few that doesn't get displayed. Well, after ripping the timeline apart into separate pages, and extensive debugging, I've found the reason why. The current host does not like the word "proxy" (used in describing the purpose of the Zentraadi). Talk about wisdom-tooth-getting-pulled level of GAH! So... here's the working linky to the Timeline: http://monkeybacon.mywebcommunity.org/Stats/Statistics/Sourcebook/Timeline2009.php The positive side of this is that the Timeline is getting a well-deserved polishing up and refinement. And the smaller portion sizes (of HTML) should make it much easier to plop down events as they start to spew forth from Macross Delta. Gah!
  24. Hmm... pion harassing pion? Nevertheless, I'm GLAD that the OT did NOT have combat droids. The Battle Droids totally deflate any tension in Eps. 2 & 3!
