Lifting body. The concept has been around for awhile. Heck, it's what the original QF-3000E Ghost is based on. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lifting_body

I'd like to add that the size of the engines must also be taken into account. The engines of the VF-0 are larger than those in the VF-1. So, in addition to the change from conventional to thermonuclear, there's also a marked increase in performance (or thrust), despite a reduction in overall engine size.

I'm finding the Macross The First story to be an interesting mix of both SDFM and DYRL designs. (For example, Breetai and Exedor are definitely DYRL, but the ARMD are SDFM!) The SDF-1 is of "a" DYRL styling. I say that, as it's based on the W.H.A.M. model, and not the actual lineart! Aside from that, the biggest change (aside from having Minmei in a Chinese dress during the opening airshow), is Misa having taken the role of announcing the Angel Birds flight demonstration team! It's definitely given her character a stronger personality in this adaptation. Oh... and the magazine contains both chapters 1 and 2 of Macross the First. So that's about 2 chapters per episode, right?

I'm in agreement of protect being intended to mean the preservation of the people on board. That, or protect humanity by scattering the seeds of it (emigrants?) to all corners of the universe.

Final Vegeta, you beat me to that idea! I had thought about searching in wikipedia earlier today to see what came up for 空力. And it comes up as a redirect to 流体力学, which is linked to the English page for fluid mechanics: http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E7%A9%BA%E5%8A%9B to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fluid_mechanics

Shouldn't 起動 be start-up/activation? See http://linear.mv.com/cgi-bin/j-e/sjis/dose...%AE&WC=none From my experiences, 機動 (yes, both are phonetically きどう... which complicates things) is manuever(ability). See http://linear.mv.com/cgi-bin/j-e/sjis/dose...%AE&WC=none

Actually... in Japan (and some other countries in Asia), it is quite common for people with colds to wear masks when they go outside. It's good manners, 'cuz they don't want to pass the virus on. See http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qi...06091733AAoH4Bc Therefore, she's being rather inconspicious.

I've officially gone cross-eyed. Guess it serves me right for staring at html code for a bunch of hours yesterday.

PS... just so everyone knows, the stuff in square brackets [] in Gubaba's translation are not present in the original. There are no shout-outs to MW staff members in the original!

Darn it! I wanted to tackle the Megaroad-01! Nevertheless, you got first dibs (by a matter of mere minutes >.> )... so, looks like I'll be tackling the Macross 5 fleet after I finish the DYRL ARMD sheet (later tonight, fingers crossed.)

Canon enough to be in the Compendium Also, isn't Hidetaka-san a contract artist? Wouldn't the company that produced the VF-0B kit be the ones responsible for "creating" it? And given that it is "official" (see Compendium's status in regard to canon-icity), isn't it possible that it was a design that Kawamori-san wanted to include in the anime, but ran out of budget/time to do so?

I'm glad that the next issue won't be until June. Collecting Macross publications has become an expensive hobby!!! Will be picking up my copy later today.

Brought out a giant dictionary... no joy. The closest I could find was 空気動力学 - and that was looking up aerodynamic. Apparently it's a used term. the google image search resulted in fighter jets, cars, fictional mecha and even bullets!
-
http://linear.mv.com/cgi-bin/j-e/sjis/dict spits out: 制御【せいぎょ】 (n,vs) control; governing; checking; suppression; repression; restraint; mastery; management; but 空力? Not in the dictionary! The most logical would be disuse/unused power. Leading to "unused power control". ? Nifty translates it as "empty force control", and Excite gives us "Aerodynamic control". If it's this last one... maybe it's a reduction of a larger Kanji? (Which is a frikken b;tch for us non-native speakers! >.<;;

Maybe the site is a joke put forward by a fan of Klan Klan?

Part of the overal movement of the mecha?

None has been released yet.

Forgot to add this: even the wife (Japanese, native speaker), has mentioned, on numerous occasions, that the kanji terms used (and sometimes even the phrasing of the sentences!) are unusual and non-standard. There have been many a time when she's been able to tell me the reading, but has idea what it means. (For some reason, the "seeding" kanji of Macross's Emigration plan is coming to mind.) These are usually after I ask her about how to read a kanji combination as it's not in my kanji book and I want to see if it's in the electronic dictionary (which it often is not.) Luckily, we have http://linear.mv.com/cgi-bin/j-e/sjis/dict and http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/cgi-bin/wwwjdic.cgi , as I don't want to bring out my Kanji tome (a Korean kanji book that has readings in Korean, Japanese, two kinds of Chinese (!) and occasionally in English.) It's a pretty scary book, as it's got ALL 214 radicals and kanji organized by radical! Nevertheless, I've come to the opinion that Macross Chronicle is difficult for even the average Japanese native speaker to read. Is it possible that we're attempting to translate the "Star Trek: the Next Generation" version of technobabble for the Japanese?!?

Thanks for the plug, and yes, using the VF-1 as a benchmark and "advancing capabilites" from there is the only way to go. The latest version of the VF-1 stats, with the most recent information available on it (canon is in green) is: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/S...s/VF-1/VF-1.htm (the biggest change is to the standard equipment. All the stuff in green comes from an official Macross source.) I'm hoping to find the time to revise all of the other stats with this latest "benchmark". my game stats "sourcebook": http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/Statistics.htm another source of stats: http://unsd.macrossroleplay.org/ Lastly, any further discussion on these stats should be continued in this forum: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?board=8.0 (there are other sites with forums for discussion on Macross game stats, but as this particular thread is devoted for the Macross Mecha Manual, we shouldn't continue this tangent here.) And to make this post semi-relevant to this topic... the rear firing missile launchers and internal pallets in the "transatmospheric Conformal Pallet Packs"* for the VF-11 are canon - a translation of Kawamori-san's notes** on the lineart found in "Shoji Kawamori Macross Designs Works". *I'm planning on renaming them "aerospace conformal (pallet) packs"... aerospace capturing the meaning of the Japanese better; though the same Japanese term is used on some of the (space) ships... and aerospace won't work for them. Eg: Aerospace Stealth Escort Carrier Uraga. ** man oh man, his writing is nigh illegible! Even the wife has trouble reading it.

Macross Frontier Mecha/Technology Thread IV *Read 1st Post*

Hmm... is it possible that Island 3, having been singled out as the Zentraedi one, is larger than the other ones? Are there any shots or dialogue in the series confirming this? Or... is it the only one with a mountain AND a sea in it? -
Quickie http://tool.nifty.com/globalgate/ translation: "Complicated operation of changing some bodies and performing empty force control since the unconscious movement is measured from pilot sources current and it can control on the extension of thinking (a concept is close to the BDI system of YF-21) is also possible. A GAWOKU form is not only also employed in quest of the advantage of itself, but the case used by a part of movement was seen." (Funny how it breaks that into two sentences...)

Yes. Plenty of documents. I posted it here http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...mp;#entry682258 back in mid-November. Can you post the text regarding the "Ecosystem ship modules"? Great Mechanics.DX 7 has Island 3 as: overall length about 15 Km, overall height about 3 Km with a tubular, semi-circle shape. (yes, that part of the article is on my list to translate). -

ARMD is the creator's of Macross's romanization of アームド. (As in 宇宙空母アームド; or Space Carrier ARMD). More info on them in English can be found here: http://macross.anime.net/wiki/ARMD Also, I think you should move this discussion to the topic devoted to his website, as this topic is for Macross Frontier Mecha and Technology. -
The way I have heard it phrased is "DYRL designs, SDFM story". Therefore, they're canon. They just *may* have shown up a bit later in the timeline than DYRL implies.

About the Macross Chronicles

I hope not... I don't know about you guys, but having correct page numbers on cosplay accessories isn't very high on my list.
