  1. Good eyes. I wonder what the second seat was for. The Compendium article doesn't state a thing pertaining to either the second seat nor the role of the fighter. http://wpedia.mobile.goo.ne.jp/wiki/%89%C2...CA%8EY%8B@%81j/ and http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%8F%AF%E5%...83%BC%E3%82%BA) refer to it, and the VF-3000B as "developmental fighters" (or "derivative fighters"). They also mention common names for them: VF-3000 "Stretch Valkyrie" and VF-3000B "Bomber Valkyrie".
  2. I've worked both ends of the spectrum (manufacturer and retailer; though for different products) and those rough numbers (doubling) sounds about right. The retailer also tends to increase the mark-up pending a) how long they estimate the product will sit on the shelf (which costs them money as they could be putting something else on that shelf that may sell faster) & b) how much shoplifting goes on in the store. Yes, you heard me, shoplifting. I've heard of one market that basically charges double because half the stock is stolen. The ones they sell covers the loss of the ones stolen. Imagine how much lower the prices would be in all the stores you shop at if people are more honest. :!:
  3. How can you turn a fact into an opinion? The fact is that the VE is Variable Elint. Your opinion is that it is a misuse of the term Elint. Your opinion does not change the fact that it is Variable Elint.
  4. Who's doing the assuming? You, and you alone, are assuming a lot about the VE series. You're basing your information on what, exactly? The role that you perceived the vehicles of the class performing in the anime? Why don't you take the time and do some more research before you dig yourself into an even deeper hole... perhaps even translate the section of Macross Chronicles that mentions the VE series. There's more than just one line there describing the role of the VE, you know. Who said anything about needing literal (or any other form of) English to apply to a Japanese term defined in Japanese? Also, for clarification - the VE class consists of all of the following: VE-1 Elint Seeker. That's it. We *might* be able to stretch things, and add the VEFR-1 Funny Chinese. But as it's of the VEFR, and described as "for electronic warfare", it's still of a different class.
  5. I agree that some great stuff came out of Gundam Ace. Masato Natsumoto's "Gundam Legacy 1" was just released. Finally! It's been 4 years! That said, when it comes to Gundam, the original timeline is the best. The last two series? I avoided them like the plague. They don't present anything new to the franchise. Hopefully, as Gubaba said, the Macross Ace will produce some good stuff. Damn... looks like I will have to pick up the first issue. Bye bye ¥.
  6. It could be that they intended to release it theatrically when they made the announcement, but when they shopped around for a theatrical distributor, no one wanted it; and/or the time period that they want to release it in is fully booked with other films. The OAD release may just be the releasers wanting to capitalize on the popularity before it disappates. But yeah, let's wait and see what an official sources says about it.
  7. Could be worse. It could've cost you $2 million.
  8. So, what you're saying is that an official publication of canon Macross information is wrong. Right?
  9. NOPE. VE = Variable Elint See Macross Chronicle Technology Sheet 01. VA可変早期警戒機「バルアブルエリント」 "VE Variable Early Warning Fighter "Variable Elint"." Wow. Not only have you made an obscure reference that is more easily understood as going to the country, but you've insulted the families and friends of the people involved in the accident.
  10. As you said: I understood that as: the VB-3000 is a variant of the VF-3000. The VF-3000 is never actually used in anything.
  11. Idiomatic how? In Japanese or the English translation? お風呂の水とか部屋に入り時全然言わへん。ほとんど別の階で言うやな。言う時から「お風呂に入り」はイディオムかな・・・
  12. Ah, but the VF-3000 was used. In Macross M3. See: http://macross.anime.net/wiki/VF-3000_Crusader
  13. I think he means this: http://macross.anime.net/wiki/VB-6_K%C3%B6nig_Monster VB = Variable Bomber VA = Variable Attacker VT = Variable Trainer VE = Variable Elint VC- Variable Civilian/Citizen
  14. Time moves forward. Things change.
  15. Re: Arutira. Go with the phonetic reading until something else comes along. See either post #562 or attempt your own using http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hepburn_roman...andard_katakana
  16. Try some of the links off of the main page: http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/_main_menu.htm especially the magazines, books, and model kit sections.
  17. Haven't you guys heard of OAV before? How many years has it been since the last anime was released on tape? Though, it's odd that it's not an OAB (B being BD being Blueray Disc). Does this mean that it'll be of a lower quality? pun.
  18. Hikuro, they're using vector graphics. Basically it means that all the lines are a math formula. It does take a lot more time and effort than raster graphics, but unlike raster graphics, the final image is scalelable. In other words, weither you print it on a pinhead, or on the top of a stadium, the curving lines will be smooth. (Raster graphics, on the other hand, become jaggies when enlarged.) 19. KY. 「笑う」
  20. More from the Japanese perspective: CSI: two versions are broadcast on cable: the Japanese dub, and a subtitled version. The subtitled version even comes with a hip entertainer at the end who takes one or two lines of dialogue from the show and explains the exact meaning of it. Just the one line takes a good 2 minutes to explain. Can that be done with every line of dialogue in a sub*? Does it need to be done for every line of dialogue? Of course, in the end, the explanation is really only a long ad for a new educational channel. (Watch us, and you can learn hip English, or something.) Nevertheless, it raises a good point - why is this thread arguing about idioms, when hip/trendy/cool language is not only much more useful in the long run, but more fun? *At this point, would there be anything left of the original other than subtitles on the screen???
  21. Yup. In addition to the Launcher Pod (speaker pod gun, which can be used as a blunt weapon), there's also the exact same "little rock" missile launcher in the legs/engine nacelles as the VF-19Kai, AND 2 (4?) dorsal "little rock" missile launchers, with a pair of missiles in each. (the parts they are in end up as the upper back thrusters in battroid mode.) You can see the leg launchers in the Chronicle article. The article states: internal speaker system/launcher pod/laser cannon x2 internal leg micro missile launcher x4 She's definitely well equipped, and me thinks the Chronicle article comes up lacking in detail...
  22. I agree. BUT, given the constraints, it is nigh impossible. ? Where is this coming from? The point I was trying to make, thank you.
  23. Fixing a 15+ year old live-action movie is quite different from fixing a less than 6-month-old animated TV series. For starters, the changes are much less glaring.
  24. How is fixing errors wrong? TV productions are on tight schedules, and mistakes get made. I'd rather have the 3/4 pensive looking Ranka then a side profile sad looking Ranka any day.
