  1. Japanese and English have different ways of writing. In general, one can determine the meaning by context. However, the word is in a title. Therefore, it could be one of the 6(?) or more English words with the same (or similar) sound. As it is a "borrowed" word from a foreign language, it could represent one of the 6 (?) or more English (or other language) words with the same (or similar) sound. In general, katakana is used to write foreign "borrowed" words. It is fairly safe to presume that the title is composed of foreign "borrowed" words. But it may be presumptuous of us to automatically assume that they are English words.
  2. And you are an authority on how non-native speakers of English romanize English, how?
  3. And to throw the monkey wrench in: "Perfect Memory" Pg 150: "SDF-2 Megalord" (written in romaji) "Macross Chronicle" FB-UN-01a "SDF-2 Megaroad" (again written in romaji) (though it should be noted that the former is of the (planned) battleship version, the latter is the emigration ship.)
  4. I think he means "Macross F Official Fan Book". Just wait until you start including magazines that have MF articles. I'm getting a headache just thinking about it! EDIT: and yes, I'm with Azrael: can't read the writing in the scan.
  5. Warning: unless if you want a bunch of spam sent to your keitai, you shouldn't post the e-mail address. Renato has done a much better job at preventing any 'bot spam.
  6. It could be, but names are not translated. They are rendered phonetically. Example: Hikaru Ichijo is not Mr. Brilliant Streak.
  7. Quickie review of the latest issue: VF-1a: what? Still no mention of the AMM-1 missiles?! Macross 7 Fleet's Escort ships: got translation dibs! Patrol Squad Mother Ship: nice to see this D7 design getting some more exposure. Glad that the Patrol boat is added. OTEC: just by looking at the images, I'm guessing that the text is more about the applications of OTEC... Making Sheet: 2 pages! Lots of rough SDF:M mecha art (nothing new if you have Perfect Memory). The interview looks promising (though it looks like it's more about the design process than the finished designs per se). Is that a give away VF-1a tawny? Coolness. Back cover has a nice VF-25 image. It's advertising for 2009.03.03 Macrss F x FamilyMart: http://www.famima.com/macross/ (for those that may be curious but won't get it in time). <- I don't think any of the promotions will be in any of the Family Mart stores outside of Japan.)
  8. On the spines of the game cases its: "Macross Digital Mission VF-X" "マクロスVF-X2" You'll want to check your source, as VFX-2 is not correct. Regarding the other part - where was it stated in Macross F that the VF-17 stopped being used as a special forces fighter? Going further along this path, we must ask ourselves why are the VF-1 and VF-4 still being used by the VF-X Ravens in 2047? Also, are you certain that you're not refering to the VF-X-2? http://macross.anime.net/wiki/VF-X-2
  9. How is it a retcon? VF-X and VF-X2 predate MF.
  10. Note the part where I said "verifiable". How much of the info on the (old) Compendium is given a proper bibliography? IMHO, that's the greatest weakness of the old Compendium.
  11. I read what Azrael read. Though, as I'm also translating, I may have a different perception of the final result.
  12. If that's how the original text is written, we (as in us translators) shouldn't add more than what is in the original. Though, there's always the option of footnotes.
  13. Yeah... I'm getting to the point that I may have to take a break from translating, to do the typing of the backlog of Chronicle and other Macross related translations done in the past 4 or more months! I'm about finished the stuff that I want to translate in the Pash! file. I may do one or two Chronicle pages before taking a stab at some of the material in Macross F Official Fan Book.
  14. In print? In a varifiable format? Not until Macross Chronicle was released.
  15. He's been known to use them for designing VFs from Macross 0. He may have started using them earlier. Old news.
  16. Yes. That's why I listed macron-sized equipment. I haven't read anywhere that the Queadlunn-Rae is a modern take on the Queadlunn-Rau. In fact, the Compendium says:
  17. Watch Eps 01 closely. You'll see that despite the dozens of bullets that Fokker fires, only 2 or 3 actually hit the Sv-51. The 1st or 2nd episode of MF also has a gun pod that bounces around quite a lot (Ozuma scores more on the asteroid than he does the Vajra).
  18. But why? They know of and have access to newer, better equipment. So far, the new equipment includes the Regult-Kai, Gluag-Kai, Gnerl-Kai, Quequallie-Kai, Enemy Battlesuit (Nousjadel-Ger-Kai?), and Variable Gluag. If we include mecha designed for human (micron) sizes, than we can add the Pheyos Valkyrie. The Annabella Lasiodora and the Gjagravan Va *may* also be designed for giants - though I've yet to come across any info regarding the pilots (size, number or anything else.) Presumably, they are micron sized, given the rest of the equipment fielded by the group that fields them.
  19. Nods, but at a certain point, it becomes "damned if you do, damned if you don't." At the very least, with a script (only) more people are more likely to be inclined to search out and buy the original than a scanlation would ever do.
  20. But he already has...
  21. I remember hearing about it at least 10 to 15 years prior to the release. Something about James Cameron and Carloc (spelling?) pictures being involved, if memory serves. But yeah, good point.
  22. Agreed. Perhaps something needs to be revealed (either as part of the main plot, or a subplot) as to why the Earth is the way it is, in M+ (at least the parts of it that we see). Which, given the pro-environmental messages that Kawamori-san sneaks into Macross plots, would be right up his alley.
