  1. I watched without subs, and understood most of it...I guess I can wait for a bit to understand the rest?
  2. I'm glad that I ignored the advice of some folks, and watched Macross 7! The music, the characters (it was great to see Max as a captain) were just fantastic. It's certainly funnier than other Macross series, and that was probably due to it's length and the ability to develop characters better. It probably could've done with less filler, but that's really only apparent towards the final 5 episodes.
  3. Every time I think of durians, I think of the warning sign on the Singapore MRT, warning passengers not to carry them on the train. The vendors in Chinatown where my wife and I stayed at were saying I would be a brave American to try the Durian pudding. My wife pulled me away! This! I want Macross 7 with much less filler episodes but the same great music...I'd like to see a rock band again rather than just an idol singer. Agreed! Does the Gorn on my avatar count?
  4. I'm finally done with all of the Encores and Dynamite 7...wow, that's quite a long haul, I must say! The encores did shed a bit of light on Basara's past, but I guess it didn't endear himself much more than he had already, but I did end up becoming a Fire Bomber fan as a result. Dynamite 7, however... Perhaps it was the lack of the songs I enjoyed in the series...the fact that it centered on Basara...the weird potential violating of Mylene ("Gubaba, you stay outside"...I knew something was up.) You can't knock Basara for giving up though, I just wish he'd let his friends help him out. All in all, I'm glad I finished it...Now I feel like Ozma Lee sitting here listening to "My Soul For You" on my computer. Thanks everyone for replying and discussing it with me. BOMBAAAAA!!!
  5. On the base I worked on they had all the Robotech DVDs at our library, so I got the first two discs to watch and see what I remembered from the series. I stopped watching three episodes in, mainly because I couldn't stand the awful dialogue and the exposition from the narrator annoyed me ("Kids, this is a Zentraedi battleship!") I took the discs back that same night. I was ok with the ADV dub, but I thought, maybe, they could have put a censoring option on the audio track so the unnecessary swear words could be bleeped out...I wouldn't feel comfortable showing that dub to kids at all. Turns out I'm going through my Star Blazers DVDs...they're as good as I remember. I could not WAIT to watch that show every single day when I was a kid. I loved how Star Trek III completely stole the "disable the brand new ship and escape" idea from season 2. When Robotech first came on, friends of mine thought it was another sequel to Star Blazers. Careful with labeling Macross 7 a 'clunker' 'round these parts...as a new member of the Fire Bomber fan club I think this is in order..... BOMBAAAAAA!!!!
  6. Thanks for all the replies! I'm finished with all 49 episodes and the "movie," so by tomorrow I should have all the encores and Dynamite 7 watched. Although I understand this reasoning behind his character being unlikeable, I might have gone about it differently. I didn't like Sheryl Nome when I first saw her, but as Macross Frontier went on, I sympathized with her condition. Maybe a bit more backstory on Basara's past would have shed light on why he's such a jerk. I would totally buy that! Can't forget the stealthy shades on Gubaba either! Yeah 49 episodes is quite the marathon. There's only so much recycled footage of Diamond Force/Emerald Force taking off (and enemy craft sucking Spiritia) one can handle. It is great seeing characters from past series doing new things, like Max, Millia and Exsedol.
  7. I read a topic a few days ago that sparked some curiosity; that is, "the majority opinion" is that Macross 7 "sucked." I had torrented the whole series after I downloaded Frontier and Plus, but put it on the back burner. After reading that topic, I figured, why not find out for myself. I'm finished with episode 35, and it isn't nearly what I thought it was. Basara is probably the only part that's irritated me, and I find it hard to sympathize with him if something bad happens. Mylene is a fun character, but why was she only 14? Gamlin has a long wait in store for sure! The music is catchy and of course I heard the songs Ozma Lee played in Frontier. The Sound Force idea made me think of some Super Sentai series, and at any moment the Valkyries would form some giant Super Sound Valkyrie. There are few moments in any show that make me laugh out loud, but I think this scene here had me on the floor: I sort of know what happens in Macross 7, but try not to spoil me *too* much.
  8. On a different note completely.... I finished watching Macross Plus this weekend, and I have one question: Did Isamu get court-martialed for stealing the YF-19, and bringing it to Earth? Perhaps he received a reprieve, given that he stopped Sharon Apple from stealing the Macross...maybe a "Kirk brings the humpback whales and saves the Earth" sort of thing.
  9. WOW...It's too bad I got to miss out on that wonderful experience! It surprised me to learn the thread went on for 14 pages before you all found out what "the WTF-1" really was. Where I lived the past year put a damper on any Frontier watching, the internet where I worked was censored and restricted. I could view Macross World, but I didn't venture into the Series Forum to keep myself free of spoilers. I guess it worked!
  10. I had a completely different reaction to episode 12, specifically the ending (what was that first generation Macross ship doing on Gallia IV anyway?) which delayed my normal sleep time by another hour. I had to watch the next two episodes to find out what was going on! As for Michael landing with Ranka, with the speakers on the wings, sure it was loaded with cheese, but the reactions of the Zentradi soldiers was simply priceless. I suppose my only question is, why did Grace plan on having Sheryl perform there? I'm certain she knew her arrival (and sudden illness) would spark a revolt, but what about her activation of the Dimension Eater after the departure of the Vajra? Did she just intend on the planet's destruction being an elaborate way for Sheryl to die?
  11. It's been an incredibly long time since I've posted here! I avoided Macross World while Frontier was airing, mainly because where I was located (i.e. somewhere in the Middle East) and felt it would be better to watch it when I got home. Now that I've been home since October, a friend of mine gave me a link to a site that broadcasts anime, and I finally got to watch it, and of course, read about what you all thought. Frontier was awesome, I rated it a '10' because it seemed to have exactly what I wanted out of a Macross series, (except, perhaps, a resolution to the triangle, and what *did* happen to the Megaroad 02?) and left me wanting more. More toys, perhaps! I showed Frontier to my brother, and he predicted Ozma's death at least 3 times ("the pineapple curse is broken!" he said), not to mention him thinking ai-kun was one of the Vajra from the outset. Now I'm waiting like everyone else, for the movie.
  12. I thought about adding to my thread I posted earlier, but this might be a good place to start. I'm getting a 1/48 Roy Focker VF-1S and want two 1/48 TV style pilot figures (Roy and Hikaru of course!) I wonder where I might find someone who has resin castings, and how much these might run me?
  13. A month or so ago I got my first 1/48 Yamato VF-1 (the Super TV Max!) and got a GBP as well. I thought it would look cool as a desk decoration (since I work with military aircraft every day) and change from Battroid to Gerwalk, mix and match the Super parts and every now and then suit him up in the GBP. The detail and the general coolness of this figure is incredible, as pictures I've seen don't do it justice! I have to thank Graham for making the transformation video! I would have destroyed mine without it. So apparently one isn't enough, and I ordered a "Roy Focker" VF-1S, with a Super Pack and a stand. What I didn't know was when I ordered the Focker Valk, HLJ.com had it listed as 'backordered' which made me believe it'd be shipped just a bit after Christmas (which, in my case is a good thing as I'm not in the States right now.) A couple days ago I got a confirmation saying it was shipped! After receiving the shipping confirmation, I look on HLJ and notice the Focker VF-1S is listed as 'discontinued.' Are they seriously discontinuing this figure?? I couldn't find it ANYWHERE else...and perhaps the most important question of all, did I get one of the last ones?
