Agreed. Maybe the model maker missed something in the lineart? Or the lineart itself is unclear in that regard?

Hmmm (googles a few images). I'd almost say that the Tornado (fighter) is the inspiration source for those thrust reversers. Of course, we've only seen a side view of them with the VF-19ACTIVE. So... not much to go on just yet.

Macross Ace Vol. 007 pgs 160-161 have an article on it, with lineart of the thrust reversers. Literally, a panel from both the top and bottom of the engine nacelle flips out, and they meet over the rear of the engine. Or just the lower one pops out a little, and something inside of the the 3D vectoring system diverts thrust out the bottom. the art is a little unintelligible, but it looks like the 3D vectoring system becomes the heel, and the thrust reverser (or at least the part that swivels out) becomes the front of the foot. If the images are anything to go by, this month's issue of Dengenki Hobby will have some sweet images.

translation of the new info on the VF-19EF: - three-dimensional thrust vectoring with thrust reverser equipped exhaust nozzles. - Shinsei Industry/P&W/RR FF-2550E Thermonuclear Burst Turbine Engines - Active Stealth System - chaff/flare/smoke discharger system - pin-point barrier system - Energy Conversion Armour system - REB-30G - REB-23 Rest of the info looks to be recycled from last month's release. The VF-19ACTIVE is pretty much the same except: - user: SMS (only!) - no armaments Machine translation of the blurb:

Macross Ace Vol.007 (2010.12.25) provides some insight into why a new VF is being designed in such a short period (outside of the obvious out-of-universe reason of expanding the model/toy lines to make more ¥¥¥) Pg 13 lineart - in addition to both leg engines, there are engines in both wings. It's maneuverability is high. - the energy shields have been drastically improved with the use of fold quartz using mechanisms. - the cockpit is based on the mass-produced VF-25 and uses EX-gear - has canards to increase the control and stability during high-speed launches. - forward-swept wings are it's features The text around the article says (if my skim reading is correct) that it's stylized after the VF-19, based on the VF-25 with the 25's silhouette. Something about the VF-27 and VF-25 Tornado pack appearing, but too briefly for mecha fans, and that in-series, the VFs ending with 9 (VF-9, VF-19, YF-29), it has forward-swept wings. The YF-29 is developed in the same period as the VF-25. There have also been 11 years since the appearance of the Vajra in the Gaul 4 incident, and there have been increases in technology, specifically anti-Vajra technology. The roll-out of the YF-29 is timely. Stealthiness, use of fold quartz, etc.. Developed by Shinsei Industry and L.A.I. Uses the mass-produced VF-25's control system. Has the functions of the VF-25's Super Pack and Tornado Pack in it's base form. Anyhow, if I understand the details of the lineart correctly, there are 2 micro-missiles in each engine nacelle, for a total of 8. There are also the hip machine-guns/beam machine-guns. 2 head lasers and a head antenna. Lastly, there are what appear to bee a pair of large-bore beam guns slightly inward and forward of the tails. The elongated nose implies the use of ISC. The model-kit's gun pod also looks different. I'd hazard a guess and say that it's similar to the VF-27's gun pod, but opens into 4 sections - mind you, it could be two, and the extra two are simply due to how the model is made. The model also has a blurb saying that because the (model kit's) parts are few, the finished result will look closer to the original CG modelling.

Gah! When is this book being released??? The publisher's homepage says 12.22, others still read 12.25. Now January release is appearing on HMV?!?! A couple of other sites are consistent, albiet with a new date: 12.28. @.@ /annoyed/ -

That's an interesting way of saying he's a very, very good character artist (as in - he's got an excellent diversity of characters and even portrays the unsettling personalities realistically). I thought the RGM book was out longer. Even the "newer" MSM-03 Gogg book has been out for a good month or so.

Live Action Space Battleship Yamato
sketchley replied to capt.actionjackson's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm guessing that it's because that website wasn't around long much before then, and probably cannot be bothered to dig into historical archives (language barrier notwithstanding). That's easy - Tron Legacy has had a lot larger advertising push then Yamato. Also, ask any 3 to 10 year old about the two franchises, and it's "Yamato, who?" Toys R Us also has a good half shelf dedicated to (the latest incarnation of) Kamen Rider (I nose, as it's what my 5 year old wanted for X-mas); with zero dedicated to Yamato. Macross F also has a poor performance - only a couple of the latest Bandai Kits piled on and amidst the other non-Gundam kits in 1/8 or 1/10 of a shelf. Ah well, at least it's there.- 450 replies

Don't forget Geoffrey Rush (which you mention later) and Bill Nighy (shame that his character was killed off). Agreed, and don't forget Keith Richards. His appearance in 3 was just surreal AND over the top.- 87 replies

Careful. Now your confusing the standard fighter sized external Fold Booster with the Super Fold Booster (that uses Fold Quartz) introduced in Macross F.

Bandai DX Chogokin YF-29 Durandal Valkyrie
sketchley replied to UN Spacy's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
More piccies from different angles is good, as a bunch of the alternative views are way cool. Though the initial 3/4 overhead shot still doesn't look cool. If anything, it's consistent with in-universe design progression (VF-27 > VF-25 Tornado Pack > YF-29), but IMHO, I don't like the direction it's heading in-general. I agree that a VF-171 kit would be cool, but for cost-profit reasons, I can understand why a model/toy that recycles of a decent chunk of the VF-25/27 parts is being made. Also, the question is begging to be asked: will the VF-171 sell as well? -
Leaving out indication that there is down time between folds, is a glaring omission. In short, it implies that the technology has greater abilities than indicated. In all likelihood, distance travelled per time unit is probably higher. However, not withstanding fold dislocations [faults, whatever], down time between folds has been consistently portrayed in the anime (insert speculative reason of choice here) and the total distance traversable in one jump is limited (already mentioned by another in the thread). So, KEIR451, perhaps what I'm trying to say is that the figure Seto is giving is a "best guess in optimum circumstances for short distances". Travel between galaxies will be at a wildly different rate, and is most likely not possible; because of one important factor: lack of new resources to be acquired en route (call it need for fuel, or simply need for new building materials). Nope. 'twas just pointing out that there is a change and that if the revised source is used, all of the revision has to be used. If it includes the caveat indicated in this post, then yes, agreed.

Suggested Topics Best: 1) Sazae-san 2) District 9 (released here in 2010 ) 3) Stargate Universe 4) anything with the word "Macross" in it. 5) keitai's with not only the power of a digital camera, but also cometh w/ a built in E/J, J/E dictionary (yeah, sure, "Smart" phones can do it, but when the mobile internet costs a fortune to access, built in features are teh sex) 6) 3 in 1 lego kits

You forgot the part where it says "1 to 2 fold jumps". 1 jump is most likely 18 hours, and 2 jumps is most likely 24 hours. Don't forget that that statement comes from SDFM, created roughly 20 years before the MC clarification was released. The MC article on folds also adds some insight about perceived and actual fold times, and there isn't that large of a discrepancy between them. Can you clarify your question? Population in an emigrant fleet? Population on Earth? ???
-
Well, considering that it takes something like 10 to 20 years worth of space folds (not constant, mind you) to travel from Earth to "near the center of the galaxy", it'd take many hundreds of years. Perhaps thousands...

?!? I thought that wasn't coming out until the 25th? Or is this from an exclusive source?

What's your favorite manga series?
sketchley replied to CrusherJ's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Currently: Macross the First In the past: Evangalion Ghost in the Shell (original, 1.5 & 2) Gundam Legacy Gunsmith Cats You're Under Arrest! Oh, and I do have fond memories of "Urusei Yatsura" and "Maison Ikoku". Also, as it's been more than a decade +, I don't think that Masamune Shirow will ever finish Appleseed (especially since he's self-described as a manga-style artist, and not a manga-artist any more). Luckily, elements of Appleseed 5 appear in both of the Appleseed movies. If anything, the location that the 2nd Appleseed movie, if not the story itself, is the direction he indicated he was going with the series. -
Nah. I think it has everything to do with Syfy: - changing station format to wrestling - changing broadcast slot from Friday to Tuesday - demanding the show be as close to a carbon copy of BSG as possible (thereby alienating long-term SG1 & SGA fans as well as not getting new viewers (as it's another stargate show)); or something along these lines.
