As of right now, only the 1/100 fighter mode only model kit has been released.

Yeah, they're like mail boxes. All around until you need one. Remember to keep a healthy perspective when absorbing commercial messages: not everyone has a mobile phone. Any numbers you may have seen are most likely inflated by the people who have 2 or more (work & personal, etc.). -

http://www.newsweek.com/2010/04/30/why-i-hate-3-d-and-you-should-too.html This is also interesting, in regards to forced perspective/look-at points*: http://www.shadowlocked.com/2009122170/opinion-features/how-to-avoid-getting-a-3d-headache-while-watching-avatar.html *it's not entirely limited to 3D. There have been some rapid pans in, for example, the revised SWIV, have an overly blurred and overall jerky/jumpy image progression if you're not looking at the focus of the action. Nevertheless, 3D exasperates it... -

One came to me in a flashback during the brief spell I returned to Canada between Korea and Japan: pay phones that don't let you use coins!!! What's up with that? What's worse is that they require special prepaid cards, yet rarely have a prepaid card vending machine nearby. (this is about 10 years ago, who knows what it's like). Makes me glad I live in Japan, where if you find a card-only pay phone, there is ALWAYS a coin taking one next to it; as they come in groups. And if you find only one pay phone, it takes both! -
Gah, just noticed a typo in my post. That should've been "YF-29", not "YF-19". YF-19, YF-29, VF-19, VF-9, VF-29.

At the end of November, I did a bit more translation of the article in GM.DX #8. It got shoved to the side and has only been updated now. See: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2634.msg40762#msg40762 From: "Regeneration of the Earth"

I just noticed something eyebrow raising in Macross Ace #007: in the Macross Goods News, Gashapon section, there are a VF-29 (Aruto), Ow/ouch VF-29 (Sheryl), Ow/ouch VF-29 (Ranka). Is it a typo, or something else? I'm guessing the former, as the Aruto version has the same colours as the YF-19.

It's extremely easy to photoshop one book cover over another. So the veracity of any photo evidence is out the window. The secret club thang does have merit. But... Anyhow, one doesn't have to understand Japanese fluently to get a grasp of what's going on (by "reading" the text, not looking at the art). You simply have to: 1) learn the basics of Japanese. Essentially enough to understand how to type kana and the SOV order. 2) install a Japanese IME in your PC. 3) input the text you want to translate* in your online translator of choice (I recommend: http://honyaku.nifty.com/ ) Optional: install Firefox (if you haven't already done so), and the Perapera-kun add on. It's an invaluable tool for knowing exactly what an individual word means with only 1 click of the mouse. * before anyone complains about kanji, keep in mind that the majority of the text in Macross Ace's manga is furigana. So it's only a case of matching the kanji once the right hiragana is input in the IME.

YOu've missed my points: 1) the international market is different from the English speaking or even the USA market. You're defining one market (not sure if it's the English speaking one in general or the USA one specifically). Though your points are valid, they are not applicable in all circumstances, states, and cultures; as the international audience has entirely different expectations. 2) Jake Lloyd. He brings in the non-fan female demographic. Yes, there are many female fans of Star Wars, but amongst the non-fans (especially those that were dragged along by their boyfriends), if you ask them about any of the Star Wars movies, they'll ask "what happened to that cute little boy?" -

My post above should've read: "I don't collect/play..." Anyhow, this image has been around since DYRL: Having said that, we might be dealing with two in-universe versions. Type pictured in my post is earlier, and the type in Graham's post is later. If this is correct, it's consistent with the book's (VFMF:VF-1VSW) portrayal of changes to the GPS-1 Armoured Valkyrie's shoulder launcher's missiles; as well as the GU-11D for the VF-1X/P. -

Agreed. For fun you should read the original thoughts on the back story on the Xenomorph. I believe it's on or connected to the Wikipedia article on "Alien" (first movie). In a way, the pyramid motif from AvP makes a bit more sense. Funny thing is, I was checking out the The Numbers website, and apparently Phantom Menace did a lot better than SW II, III, or even the twice-released IV! Take what you will from that, but Jake Lloyd has a huge selling power. http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/records/worldwide.php #13 SWI #22 SWIII #29 SWIV (Alien, Predator, AvP, none on the list.) -
Moving to Japan is always a year of fond memories. Anyhow, 2010: as a movie on it's own, it's great fun (ballute!) As a sequel to 2001, it's terrible. Ah... revel in the Cold War angst. 2010 the year has been generally optimistic with a faint dash of pessimism mixed in.

That would be a/the sensor. If I understand it correctly, there are some new actuators that we haven't seen before presented in the section. -

the concept of time. Whoever created it is evil, because they didn't put in enough extra time in the day. >.< -
Me thinks that as long as Macross: the First continues to be published in Macross Ace, the collected volumes will remain in-print (or reprint). There are some of us with the skills to do it, but we are resisting even producing a text-only translation because of the ease that someone else could take our work and photoshop it onto scans of the manga collections; thereby reducing the number of people buying the originals (thereby putting a damper on further Macross productions). Even more unscrupulous individuals might do the same, but charge others for the "service".

I'm just curious, has anyone read the wikipedia article on these new movies? From the goings on here, and what's written there, it's like two ENTIRELY different ideas are being discussed. -

Started partial translation: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2668.msg41135#msg41135 Finished up to page 29. Finally, total missile load in the FAST packs! Also, some interesting insight into the design role of the RO-2A. -

Man... this is a hard book to pick up! It's been "released" by the publisher since the 22nd, people in Kanto and those using the major internet mailing companies have been able to get it before the "official" release date of the 25th, but it's been thinly released elsewhere. Did the publisher print too few in the first run? (In my case, I've spent the past WEEK checking out book stores before finally tracking one down waaay off my beaten path. >.< ) Anyhow, quickie content review: VF-1 & FAST pack VF-1 in front of various space backgrounds (Mars, etc.) FTW. Images are much improved. In that they are consistently making me think they are CG renders. Except for one or two which scream "model" to me. We're given: 4 FAST pack variants (Config. Ver. 1.0 ~ 4.0). 1.0 being nacelle only (presumably atmospheric use only), 2.0 is the standard DYRL/SDFM type, 3.0 is the DYRL VF-1S type, and 4.0 has beefed up FAST packs (larger fuel and munition loads?) Armoured Valkyrie - with a bunch of variant colourings FTW! Theory of space combat: looks intriguing, and lots of graphics to go with the text to give just enough of a hint to be frustrated that reading it means translating it. >.< VT-1/VE-1: a bit disappointing. Only 4 pages, with over half of each images. A few more pages than last time dedicated to Battroid and GERWALK modes, not to mention a bunch of stuff on the transformation system. Long Voyage looks interesting: going by the images, a space shuttle fuel tank was strapped to a VF-1, and it was sent on a gravity-boosted trip to Saturn and back. Trip starting in 2009.05 and ending in 2025! The VF-1 looks pretty beat up after the end of the trip. Oh, it's apparently done on autopilot. VF-1X, VF-1P: text, stats and images. Seeing one of 'em flying with a pair of Regults in UN Spacy paint is intriguing. Nostalgic and intriguing. Some new armaments are introduced: GU-11D (see VF-3000), a bunch of new AAM-1 variants and anti-ship missiles (using the paveway system?!?) Oh, the VF-1P goes back to 3 hardpoints per wing. VF Genealogy 2011-2030 has a bunch of decent sized paragraphs on the VF-4, VF-3000, VF-5000, VF-X-3, VF-X-4 (2 versions; before and after SWI), and the VF-4 again. + Gubaba's aforementioned ?joke? cover a VFMF VF-4/3000/5000 book cover! I think the only thing that's disappointing about the book is, despite the CG picks of an ARMD, there's no section or detailed description of it (as there is of the Prometheus and Uraga class vessels in VFMF:VF-1 and VFMF:VF-19. -
I think it just happened to be there. Innocent bystander, and all that. I think it's simply because SDFM and DYRL never bothered to have them do anything but be a background element. The only other animation that hints at their true potential, is during the battle around the carrier in Macross Zero. Probably the ultimate showcase of their true (hand to hand) combat capabilities is in "Macross Plus: Game Edition". There drop kicks and roundhouse punches are mind boggling (especially when the Monster does it). Of course, nothing beats the reverse spinning leap kick that the Regult does in that game... (no, haven't played any of the PSP games, so don't know if they have destroids doing similar cool moves.) Nevertheless, pure awesome FTW that the SDFM/DYRL destroids get showcased and kick a$$ at least once. Though, it begs the question: as "Macross the First" appears to be mostly relying on DYRL designs, will the Phalanx be making an appearance?

Yup http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2264.msg39797#msg39797 (slight rearrangement of info) The YF-24 family: That's a good 17 years of development between start and finish; not to mention the discovery of the Vajra, the Fold Quartz they produce, and the technologies developed from fold quartz. Why evolution? In short, ISC - which allows pilots to exceed G-loads that would turn them into pizza on the back of the cockpit without ISC. The next evolutionary step is the Stage II thermonuclear engines (have to power these high-tech gizmos somehow); think of it as the output being increased by an order of magnitude. Lastly, the switch to linear actuators. Basically an evolutionary step forward. If you're wondering where EX-Gear and cyborg pilots fit into this: the core kept the best ISC for themselves, and militaries outside of the core developed technologies to try and achieve the same or similar level of performance. If Frontier is EX-Gear and Galaxy is cyborgization, what other heretofore unrevealed technologies are developed by the other 60+ Super Long Range Emigration Fleets and untold numbers of Emigrant Planets?

If memory serves, it was the YF-24 Evolution, not the YF-24 (which had it as an external system, if at all; if memory serves). Also, the EX-Gear serves double duty - it enhances pilot survival, but while serving as the control seat, it allows the pilot to perform control actions at higher G-loads. In short, it's how the Frontier Fleet compensated for the reduced-performance ISC that the Unified Forces disseminated to non-Earth/central command forces.
