  1. Hmmm... from what I remember, they're nigh indestructible. Perhaps the SGU versions are lower quality ones? http://www.gateworld.net/news/2011/04/wright-sgu-continuation-other-movies-dead-for-now/
  2. Re S02 Eps 17 Another good mind-trip episode (though I still think the wormhole to the past in an alternate future should've resulted in a paradox, but anyhow). Lot's of excellent plot twists and references to preceding events in the series. Probably the best thing in the episode is the zinger in the closing segment that elevates the show to an entirely new level of thought provoking-ness. Dare I say that it elevated the episode from good sci-fi to good science fiction, as the episode actually analyzes a relevant topic de jour, but does it in a way that we don't know what it is until the very end? Kudos to the writers for pulling that off. Oh, and we get stargates in this episode. (Yay!) Alas, we also get a plot reason not to have them in upcoming episodes. (Boo-hiss!) EDIT: I have to say that I quite like these latest couple of episodes. Mainly because they've gone back to the core premises of SGU (exploring the ship, and examining real science.)
  3. Macross Hobby Handbook 1: MBR-04-MkVI Tomahawk pages: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2315.msg34515#msg34515 Didn't have near as much as I thought on the Tomahawk (the Mk VI) as I thought it would. Some interesting tidbits about the other variations and development, though.
  4. Re S02 Eps 16 Interesting stuff, but is it really an SGU episode? I felt very nostalgic watching it, as a) it abounds in one of the main reasons why I started watching TV SG in the first place*, and b) it feels like an SGA episode. Nevertheless, I'm glad that the show finally did something about the Lucian Alliance members on Destiny. It's a shame that after being developed, all but the main one are killed off! Anyhow, a good episode simply because the main protagonists all take a back seat, and the supporting protagonists are highlighted. * the on-location stuff filmed in the Pacific Temperate Rain Forest and Greater Vancouver area - as I'm from "near" there. So, SG1 and SGA were a great way of remembering what "true" nature is. LOL
  5. "Planned release date: 2011.05.02 (release date may vary by region)"
  6. You have to keep in mind a couple of things: 1) the total number officially produced is consistent with the only VF who's total production number is stated in the official setting - the VF-4 (8,245). 2) the VF-1 continued to be unofficially produced in limited numbers by emigrant planets and fleets. It is unknown how many were made. Nevertheless, even in the 2050's, the Frontier Fleet produced a small run of VF-1 for special forces uses. 3) the VF-1 was already considered out of date by the time of Space War I (the development of the VF-3 and VF-4 was progressing at the outbreak of that War). So, it's not surprising that the total number produced is small, especially given the weaknesses inherent in the base design. 4) the main VFs of the Megaroad class fleets was the VF-4 (supplemented by the VF-5000 when it's mass production began). So, given the context of the official setting, I have no problem with the total numbers of produced. Especially because of the loop hole of emigrant fleets and planets continuing to produce it in small numbers. Note: by officially produced, I do not mean official setting vs expanded universe, but the amount produced during the period of mass production by Stonewell Bellcom (or the ones given production blocks).
  7. Which one? If you mean the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami, then there's no effect. Reason: publication of Vol.03 has not been announced.
  8. MIB3 (or MIB III): http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1409024/ Now, EXO did have me going with the directors... especially after reading the synopsis for the movie (fits with a JJ Abarams plot). But... going back and rereading the first few posts is great. Especially when the context of everyone's posts are understood (I thought it was about MIB, too). I'll second the best thread ever.
  9. I haven't translated anywhere near a 5th of that publication - and with that, I've focused on Mechanical and Technical. So, I haven't spotted it meself, but there's a decent chance it's in the character section on the character.
  10. I hope so, too. THAT'S NOT TOTORO. Looks like an angry mutant marmot. This line from the quote is also baffling: Totoro IS a BIG screen MOVIE. Gah! <facepalm>
  11. Agreed that the appearance of Jonas would've been cool, but I do appreciate that it would've made the episode overly complicated. I don't think he would've been the administrator though, as Jonas being in disagreement with SGC would be out of character. Nevertheless, I'm still hoping for an 11th hour intervention and a season 3 will be produced. Though, the realistic side of me is telling me it'll be a movie or nothing. I don't think it'll end with the creation of a supply line - for the simple reason that that is what was achieved during SGA, and this show has deliberately tried to be different from SG1 and SGA. But that's just me.
  12. Re S02 Eps 15 Excellent episode. Not because of the character development (as good, if not better than the level the last few episodes have been at). Not because of the sacrifices the crew has to make (some truly unexpected twists and turns therein) but because it captures the feel of SG1 and SGA. For that alone, it's highly recommended. On top of that, there's a whopping two moral themes that are examined. This show has truly got up to speed.
  13. Well, this is not the right place to petition the moderators and admins to reopen a thread. Try the member feedback section, and maybe they'll transfer our last couple of posts to the thread you want reopened, too.
  14. Uhm, you do realize that they are all kit-mods, kit-bashes or scratch builds, right?
  15. Maybe they were recorded at the same time with the intention of being used in the soundtrack but were rejected. Now, that they've found them, they've also realized why they were rejected, and are revising them (essentially making new music). OR There is a large gap in HG between the section involved with Robotech and top management (aka the money holders). Maybe the RT section wants to do these things, but it takes a long time to cross top management's desk, and even longer to get funds to complete the project approved. The problem with this situation is that the people in charge of the RT section are like kids who get too excited, and can't keep a secret, and tell the world. They then get egg on their face when top management takes a long time to make a decision or refuses funds for the project. Just a theory.
  16. Back to the topic Headlines at Japan Times: Plutonium traces point to core leak (Heavy fuel rod damage feared; trenches fill up with toxic water): http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/nn20110330a1.html (I'm a bit confused by it's wording - is some of the detected plutonium leftovers from the old atmospheric nuclear warhead tests? Or is it simply "like" the immediate aftermath of those tests?) Tepco comes under fire for issuing erroneous info: http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/nn20110330a3.html Utilities' monopoly on power backfires: http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/nn20110330a4.html (Japan has enough power - but why isn't it getting to Tokyo? Historical reasons, my eye. Monopolistic 'tards.) Nationalization of Tepco seen as possibility: http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/nn20110330a6.html (I don't want my taxes used to help prop up the monopolistic 'tards. But is the alternative better? Will there be less government money wastage if Tepco is privatized?) Working conditions 'must improve': http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/nn20110330a8.html (I feel really bad for the workers. They're giving there all, yet there living conditions are just heartbreaking. I'm all for nationalization if it'll improve both the living conditions and radiation protection of the workers. Damn monopolistic 'tards. >.< ) EDIT: note all questions are rhetorical
  17. Being discussed/translated in this topic: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=34229&st=0
  18. That reminds me: I did get the search function working. However, it's only for relatively recent posts. PetarB, if memory serves, the operators of this site improve it's speed/inter-operatability every so often by archiving older topics. Not sure where that line is, but >EXO< has indicated that it's somewhere around 2007.
  19. I think that was Dr. Jeremy Franklin. I think the infection will be a bigger arc. Don't see any other reasons to put Greer on the sidelines because of the one kidney.
  20. S02E14 Just finished watching it. This one is an excellent episode - one where everyone has something important to do, and there is a lot of character. AND a couple of truly unexpected twists (no, I didn't watch any of the previews). It's definitely a grade above last week's episode. Funny thing is, they resolve last week's plot leftovers, and it barely registers. Nevertheless, the rest of it is good solid stuff with a lot of exploration of the ship - something that's kinda been neglected over the past half a season or thereabouts.
  21. Not that it's really on topic or anything, but... Japan does have some, and is, if memory serves, experimenting with such things as geothermal and wind power. I'm also trying to get some of my adult students to push the government into getting some energy from the ocean currents (tidal flows). Not that there's enough students to motivate the government... Nevertheless, for the past couple of years, there has been a push to add solar panels and a kind of water heater that creates heat and stores it only from the differences between daytime highs and nighttime lows - however, both are currently prohibitively expensive (at least in our case) compared to the monetary savings returns (which is based on the amount of power generated which is based on the number of panels we can install on our roof). Anyhow, we've switched from incandescent light bulbs to neon light bulbs, and I encourage other MW members, both within and outside Japan to do the same. Not only do they last longer, but they consume considerably less electricity so that in the long-term, they are more than worth the slightly more expensive initial cost in reduced electric bills.
  22. Ditto. Love the Tunny VTOL.
  23. In general, I like the Yamato and Wave box art images much more than the Bandai & Ace/Ultimate Frontier ones. Former have a much greater visual organization and impact, latter are cluttered (in all fairness to the artist, that's the fault of the client's order). Favourites: VF-19A SVF-569 Lightnings (excellent colour balance, clear separation of the background and foreground, and a background that's full of things that get the imagination working) VF-0C VMAT-203 Hawks (dynamic image with excellent use of negative space, as well as the groovy details on the Daedalus class ship) VF-22S SVF-124 Moon Shooters (realistic paint on the foreground elements and the sense of volume and weight the shading evokes) VF-0A/S w/ Ghost (evokes memories of VF-0 as well as how bad-a$$ VFs are when they're fully loaded with gear. Also like the sense of movement and depth) MBR-04-MkVI Destroid Tomahawk (this! I think it's the attention to details) ADR-04-MkX Destroid Defender (just like the previous one - the eye-line is also genius.) VF-11MAXL Custom Mylene Valkyrie (I think it's the light and cheerful colouring and arrangement more than anything else. Mind you, I like the fighter mode of this VF...) VF-25F Messiah Details (I'm a sucker for this type of image. So, I guess I'll say "the details") Macross 25th Anniversary SDF-1 Macross (the sense of scale and weight that these images invoke is... just, wow.) Macross Frontier Animation Works Keyframe & VFX Effect: pretty much every image - so much insight into the creative process and the contributions of the artist can be gleaned from just the images alone. If I have to pick any in particular, they'd be the Megaroad-01 launching (insight into the creative process) and avan C184 & C186 (they highlight the artist's contributions. In short, I see the CG and I think "I can do that!" Then I see Tenjin-san's contributions, and I think "holy crap! I wish I could do that.") Didn't like: VF-25F Messiah Valkyrie (Tokyo International Anime Fair 2010 Event Art): something just seems off about it. Intakes too big? Nose too small? In the end, this book is highly recommended if you're a Macross fan (for the realistic looking VFs) or an artist (so much can be learned from it). If you're both a fan AND an artist, this book is a MUST.
