http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2667.msg41338#msg41338 Completed character, glossary (not sure I mentioned these two yet in this thread), and the two pages about the VF-1X++ (well, everything except the gnarly looking paragraph at the bottom about the construction of the kit.) Only one page to go! (the VF-19A) Also, in the first post on the same link: added translations of the stuff from and about the author. KuWa has also updated his blog on Macross the Ride (posting link here as only Japanese literate people will find it): http://frameout.web.fc2.com/ There are a couple of interesting alternative views of the VF-1X++, as well as a pair of under-construction picts.

Was wondering what's up, as you kinda disappeared from these parts. Glad that it's just normal busy life.

They can. The main limitation on the VF-19 and VF-22 is their G resistance, which is limited to what the pilot can sustain in his G-reducing suit and seat. The VF-25 has G-reducing EX-Gear AND ISC, effectively doubling the pilot's G resistance compared to a VF-19 pilot. The VF-27? Not including ISC, a cyborg pilot is immune to quite high G forces.

Not a big error per se, just something that might be indicative of other, possibly major problems. Over the past week or so, I've noticed a couple of threads that have things like "16 replies, 0 views" whenever I check the "view new content". Might just be an error in the code that keeps track of views, but it might not. Effected threads currently showing up: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=34760&view=getnewpost&hl=&fromsearch=1 * 14 Replies * 0 Views http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=34756&view=getnewpost&hl=&fromsearch=1 * 39 Replies * 0 Views http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=34755&view=getnewpost&hl=&fromsearch=1 * 16 Replies * 0 Views http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=34757&view=getnewpost&hl=&fromsearch=1 * 3 Replies * 0 Views http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=34761&view=getnewpost&hl=&fromsearch=1 * 1 Reply * 0 Views

I thought that the 1998 Kurt Russel film "Soldier" was an (unofficial) sequel. Gah... hopefully this new stuff won't be anywhere near as dog doo-doo as that movie was. Total let down - only went to see it because of an awesome space battle scene in the trailer, that was never finished and eventually cut from the final film. >.<

Nothing has been said as much. They disappeared near the center of the galaxy. The circumstances of their disappearance are unknown. All that's been revealed is that the owner of S.M.S still hopes to be able to find Minmei. This is not far from the truth. After the end of the 1st Interstellar War, people were cloned. The nuances of the translations I have done imply that pretty much the entire crew of the SDF-1 was cloned, and there are numerous copies of the heroes. Until cloning stopped, it's implied that all the emigrant ships (both super long range and close range) were populated by clones of the original SDF-1 crew. The original Hikaru and Misa may not have had many children (let's say Max and Miria's 7 is a normal number), but multiply that by 30 or 60 copies, and you easily get hundreds of Hikaru and Misa kids. I kid you not. This is one of the less highlighted aspects of Macross, but if one follows the logic, it's inescapable.

Indeed. I can't remember the exact wording, but Kawamori-san said something along the lines of "if I tell the story of Macross as a TV series, it's SDFM. If I tell it as a movie, it's DYRL". In general, it appears that the TV series takes precedent over the movies in regards to the story events. See my signature - linky entitled "I believe in the Macross Extended Universe!"

(change Unified to UN at your pleasure. UN would be how it's generally rendered on screen, Unified is an accurate translation of the terms used in Japanese). So, it's best to say that post Interstellar War 1, it's been officially "New", but hasn't been applied consistently until Macross F. (My guess is that it has something to do with the results of the RW copyright trials, but that's just me.)

The yen's been high for quite a while now (I'd like to say a couple of months, but it's probably closer to half a year, or greater). In addition to the relative weakness of the USD compared to the JPY, there's also shipping and other import fees, plus the local bookstore wants to make their cut. But that's all par for the course for imports (works both ways. Some of you may have serious jaw droppage going on when you see the price of corn flakes and peanut butter.)
-
They still have new copies of Kazutaka Miyatake's Design Works for sale?!?! LOL Sounds pretty much par for the course for someone making movies. I'd say we'll get a proper answer in about a month's time.

Finished the stuff on the VF-1J, and the two characters introduced. Interesting back-story for both of them.

I was mulling over name dropping Graham in this thread. Cool that he was mentioned. What was the general context of the drop-page?

If I understand things correctly, they take the place of aerodynamic controls in the void of space as well as supplementing the same controls in an atmosphere. Verniers are also used for such things as docking with other craft in space where fine position adjustments are needed AS WELL AS changing the angle of attack (moving or rotating the vehicle in any direction while having a minimal effect on the initial trajectory.) The diverted exhaust of the main engines are mainly used for changing the vector of acceleration AS WELL AS changing the angle of attack, but not as fast nor as precise as the vernier engines would allow. I think the VF-25's ankle bracelets are either supplemental armour to protect the joint itself, a support frame for the joint, a cool looking detail, or all of the above.

Macross Official Setting and the Expanded Universe
sketchley replied to sketchley's topic in Movies and TV Series
Added. Added the novelization media with disclaimer (as it's a lot easier on the eyes to add the disclaimer just the one time.) Is there any other material that MW feel should be added? -
<Sigh> I thought we had moved beyond that. We're on what, page 8 now, and I stopped pressing the "learn to read or die" after Gubaba's post on page 5. Tochiro hasn't posted in this thread since 2011.01.07. Not sure why this is being brought up again, as he appears to have also stopped pressing the "learn to read or die" ideology. The only thing I've posted in this thread in the past 24 hours is: Not sure how that provoked the return of the "read or die" ideology that's dead and buried. Nevertheless, Bri provided an excellent response here, to which my response is that there is a 3rd option: but because Exo posted this, there's no point in elaborating on it in this thread. Agreed. But it is annoying when someone can't be bothered to read your signature outlining your personal policy against posting scans from current publications and post the request anyways. Grr... Indeed.

Thanks. Reno it is. Just skimming the actual story text in this month's article, and the following VFs standout: VF-1X++, VF-3000, VF-4, VF-9, VF-19 I won't be surprised if subsequent episodes feature those fighters. Looking forward to it.

Agreed. It's quite interesting seeing the individual contributions of the artists and how they make their art; alas that part from the 1st book isn't in the 2nd. Anyhow, Pg 056: Variable Fighter Genealogy (the one from Macross Chronicle #50): The number below the cockpit on the VF-1S has been changed from "011" to "001".

Heh heh heh - that's why I'm waiting for it on BD so I can see it on my big screen TV. Before anyone says, "hey cuz, youze in Japan. Why not like go see it in the theatre like yesterday 'cuz it's like dope and stuff and playing like now." I work nights and have 3 kids - one of which is 2 months old. Even if I could get away to the theatre, I'd probably end up falling asleep halfway through. These days, more than 5 hours of sleep in a row is a godsend!

Macross Official Setting and the Expanded Universe
sketchley replied to sketchley's topic in Movies and TV Series
I've mulled over this throughout the day, and decided that I agree with it. MtF is bumped to EU (if one needs additional reasons: we're starting to see equipment do heretofore unknown things (blow up an asteroid with PPB energy, tentacles on a Zentraadi capital ship). Cool stuff, but contradictory to the OS.) DYRL is also the first material to be in two categories - both OS and EU. Hopefully the italicized description in EU makes sense. oh... and before I forget - I'm deliberately ignoring the 2 MF movies for the time being. Mainly because any discussions about them will inevitably result in spoilers. And I feel it's in everyone's best interest to keep any spoilers to the one thread dedicated to the 2nd movie for the time being. -
Macross Official Setting and the Expanded Universe

Added. I'm agreeing that it's neither OS nor EU, as the designs haven't seen the light of day outside of those magazines (ie Design Works, Macross Chronicle). Which, IMHO, speaks volumes about the designs (either Kawamori hasn't decided where they fit in, or he's forgotten about them!) Now this is another tricky part, as I believe the MF etc novels do the same. I'm inclined to put these in OS, but with the caveat that animated events supersedes the novelized events. Do the novels have any particular names, or would the generic "MII novels" suffice? -
On the one hand, anime 52k8, you're logic is valid, however are we at the point where the companies in question will listen to their non-Japanese customers? Can customers even be called customers if the customer is not purchasing anything and is waiting for the company to provide a service? The million dollar question is: are these companies aware of the non-Japanese markets, and if so do they perceive that there is enough demand in the markets for content dedicated exclusively for said markets?

Macross Official Setting and the Expanded Universe
sketchley replied to sketchley's topic in Movies and TV Series
Thanks. Added. I'm using the more broad definition "plausible". Nevertheless, as it's main additions are supplied elsewhere (the VF-5000, Zentraadi dissenters, integrated micron-macron city, giant-boobed Zentraadi), there's no real point in arguing for it. Questions: what's the official name of those special "all that VF", and where would they fit? What are the SDFM/M7 related novels? And are there any dojinshi worth mentioning? -
Translation started: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2667.msg41338#msg41338 Completed: intro, VF-1X++ Hakuna Sp. Question: the air racing that this serialization is based on, takes place at or near Reno, Nevada?
